Yeah, but it's better than not punching at all...90s series.
The 90's series did have punching...Or at least one punch...

I cracked up when Scorpion fell :woot:

Well, Spidey uses punching when he's really gettingthe piss beat out of him. Otherwise he would just try to use other resources around him as Vic Cook said in an interview "He would rather web a refrigerator and throw it at you then run up to you and punch you" or something like that. It's more entertaining too IMO. Spidey's more agile and interesting to watch when jumping and webbing things all over the place then to beat the crap out of an opponent. I love the JLU fights but leave Spidey the way he is whether his punches are as brutal as theirs or not.
Agreed, I think his punching is fine in the series and I'm glad he uses his webs more than he punches. I mean, it's not like he doesn't punch because he already has twice, which I thought was very badass and I'm looking foward to him punching again.

Was that an actual punch or did he elbow him, the animation is off I couldn't tell, lol? Great, we got two punches in the new series in three episodes, and one in the 90s series in 5 seasons. Should we be happy about this or sad?

Yeah seriously. This show has it's OWN style. No need to emulate JLA, or anything else out there.

How do you "push" someone with ypur fist?

That is a clear punch. There was also another scene where spidey punched, where he was clashing with someone but I can't remmeber who it was.

The point is that the punching in the 90's were few and far between.

As for NS, is it better than NOTL? Lets see. One of the things I loved about NOTL which was missing here was the fear factor. Spider-Man in NOTL seemed afraid to some extent, hearing him talking to himself to calm his nerves was classic. Also, there was a shock value, in which spidey was shocked to actually see a man-lizard who turned out to be the doc but in NS, spidey didn't seem in the least bit worried at all. He just went in all guns blazing.

Really? The argument I'm seeing is that, there was no punching at all. In fact, I think spidey was punching scorpion again in the same episode and it got blocked, when he was trying to save jj

A definite 10. :liz:

Gorgeous animation, terrific story execution.

What a fantatstic episode....im practically speechless. :wow:

Love how it starts off with the "Parker Luck" in full effect (the botched photos)...

Peter showing Flash up in the school courtyard, then realizing he has to protect his secret identity. Love how Gwen got involved then the other football player standing up for them. (What's that character's name, anyway? Is that Tiny from Untold Tales?)...

..

The bald guy, no, that was Kong from Ultimate Spidey.

There were a couple minor things that I didn't like:

1. The Lizard didn't talk. I'm OK with the savage Lizard, but he should have talked a little before he went totally animal and tried to bite heads off.

2. The Lizard was about to bite Billy before Spidey saved him. Again, I realize - savage Lizard, but that's a big deviation from the way Lizzy is presented in the comics.

3. Peter Parker saying "bro" all the time. Pete's not a "bro" kind of guy.

Other than those nitpicks however, it was indeed pretty cool. The Spidey vs Lizard fight is by far the best hand-to-hand Spidey battle EVER animated. It's going to be hard to top, and probably only the eventual Venom battle might beat it. 9/10

1. It was just his first appearance, I mean he could talk in a later episode maybe.

2.Yeah that kind of made me feel uneasy how he tried to attack Billy, but he did hesitate a lot before he did.

3.I agree the "bro" thing is kind of weird.

The Doc Ock fight could be pretty intense if they do it right. Of course it's not excatly hand-to-hand, but the Lizard used his tail alot, so.

One of the things I'm loving about this show is the continuity, like how they've been hinting at the lizard since the first episode and how they briefly mentioned Electro in today's episode. Even though each episode is a stand alone story, it feels like one giant story arch.

I know, I love it when a show has continuity like this. I said something about Electro being mentioned before on this board, or some other one maybe.

I think this is shaping out to be a terrific show because of the presence of a solid continuity. The show works as one-shot episodes, but it also establishes a continuity so we can see the progression of Dr. Connors experimenting with lizard DNA, Brock getting slowly pissed at Peter, the Spidey Photo contest, etc.

Each episode stands by itself and new viewers can hop in anytime, but I love that there are threads and hints in the story that weave through all the episodes.

I'll point out, punching a crocodile or a mutant monster doesn't really cut it. It's hardly on the same league as this

hero's thrashing other heroes. Not only heroes but the definitive superhero supes as well going all out on another superhero without being mind warped or anything.

As well as what everyone else has said in response to this statement, wasn't this fight in like the 58th season, I mean they didn't hit like that in the first seasons of regular Justice League. And this is just they first 3 episodes of SSM.

Although personally, I've always thought of Spidey as more of a kicker while Black Suited Spidey punches.

By the way, did anyone read the newspaper article when they're back at the ESU lab? The article is written by Jameson and he lists The Shocker, Venom, Rhino, and Sandman as villains that never would have been if it wasn't for the existance of Spider-Man. If these episodes are supposed to be in order and Venom doesn't appear until the end of the season, is this an easter egg continuity blooper?

I think it's an easter egg for upcoming episodes. The show makers said that there would be those.

I have to admit, I was a little worried after the first two episodes. The series didn't strike me with amazing writing or story telling until this episode. Which was really solid. Here's hoping they can pick up the pacing and provide some substantial character development.

Do u or any one else have a cap of this? I dont remember seeing it when i freeze framed that scene.

Even MTV and Spider-Man:Unlimited?

The MTV show was fine. The only reason most hate it is because the animation team was creative enough to come up with some new villains after they had been restricted from using some classic villains by the movie series.

I for one was finally glad to see a more adult themed Spider-Man.

Don't compare it to Unlimited, which was total crap after the first episode.

No wonder. I've noticed Spider-Man in this show already overuses his web. Webbing pies, webbing bags of jewelry and so forth. I guess that explains it. But I'd really like to see Spidey get in there with some punches and kicks sending people flying once in a while.

Lol, that looks more like a close fisted push than a punch.

I really liked the whole "check check" "check check check" thing Peter was doing, it was funny.
The episode was pretty solid, it seemed a little too fast paced though. I'd say though, the best episode is still the premiere.
