Need For Speed

It doesn't seem to be doing all that bad, If it reached 200 million then a sequel is very plausible. Hell, with more time to grow maybe they can eventually make around half of what the Fast & Furious films make, even the first film of that franchise didn't make all that amazingly, they simply uped their game in the following movies, expecially in the 5th film.

As a car fanatic, I really enjoyed the movie.

Something to hold us over until the next F&F. The mustang was beautiful. Good to see the classic muscle in there too.

I'd have no reservations in seeing it again in theaters. Definitely a purchase for me.

Need for Speed continues roaring overseas, adds $29.2M in second week international.

http://www.boxoffice.com/latest-new...korea-need-for-speed-hits-961m-overseas-total

Need for Speed added $29.2 million from 55 overseas countries. Its performance in China was off just 47 percent from last week, giving it $41.7 million to-date from that country alone. Russia posted a 49 percent decline, giving the film a $10.6 million total there, while Germany gave Speed a #1 opening with $3 million. The film's overseas total is now $96.1 million, giving it $36.98 million globally.
^error above in total amount.

Looking at bit over $126M Worldwide in two weeks. Still has France, Spain, South Korea, and Japan to hit. Should clear $150M WorldWide very least. But will do less than $45M here...dropped hard this week to around $7.7M, 56% drop.

EDIT-- The movie's $29.2 million estimate take overseas makes it the #1 movie overall for a second week in a row in the overseas market.

There are no new openings next weekend; the movie drives to Spain, France and Korea in April and to Japan in June.

Did not enjoy this movie. Best part was the final race, and mostly for the cars. The P1 and Sesto Elemento are amazing.

Saw the movie yesterday, thought it was ok overall.

It took itself way too seriously compared to something like the F&F movies which don't take themselves anywhere as seriously. The first half-hour (or so) of build-up was just boring.

But once it got to the racing scenes, holy crap! These were seriously the most awesomely-filmed racing scenes that I've ever seen in any movie. The angles were crazy and the shots were just framed so kinetically it was amazing. There was a genuine sense of speed and sheer sense of motion that was just mind-blowingly awesome. The sound was really good too - from engines revving, tires spinning, etc. The continuous change in scenery was really cool too, from the beginning highway scenes to the wide-open Utah roads to the forested & coastal California roads. Sort of a film gaffe there - there was one shot undeniably set in Arches National Park in Utah (let's just say the movie showed one of its most iconic spots that any visitor would recognize) but it made no sense for Aaron Paul's character to be passing through when there's only one road into & out of the park (plus the park is also a 30-minute detour from the main highway, I-70).

The nods to the game series were actually sort of subtle but noticeable for a fan like me. ;) There were more than a few shots that resembled an in-car first-person view but because the camera angles were so routinely crazy in the movie, the first-person-esque shots came across as more natural that they might have otherwise and didn't take me out of the movie (as opposed to the first-person sequence in the Doom movie). It also really helped that the camera never sat still in first-person mode either and continued to move with the car to give the impression of a real driver looking around.

Overall probably a 2.5-star movie but for the racing scenes alone, 5 stars! They were just so amazingly done it was mind-blowing. It was a nice change from the F&F movies to see genuine-looking sports cars here (as opposed to F&F's muscle cars), and I liked how they threw in the police-chase aspect from the games too. Not sure if it's a spoiler to say, but it was awesome to see the police get a few "wins" in, particularly when a lot of illegal-racing movies show the cops as inept and horribly slow in their cruisers. :p

I saw it in 3D too, which did help the immersiveness a bit, but the sound blew me away more than the visuals did. My theater had ETX which made the cars sound especially loud & dynamic.

Need for Speed on target for $200M World Wide?

http://www.deadline.com/2014/03/int...-from-4-markets-through-thursday/#more-705857

Disney’s Need For Speed is another pic that had no new openings this weekend. It nevertheless revved up a further $13.3M in its 3rd frame of overseas release from 55 territories. The international total is now $130.4M with China leading the pack at $57M.

Just over $168M worldwide in theaters with Spain, France, South Korea, and Japan to come.

Hmm, no talk of a sequel? Then i guess it's not that likelly, maybe they were expecting this film to more than double its budget.

Well, the Blu seems stacked with features...

http://www.dvdactive.com/news/releases/need-for-speed.html

The Blu-ray Combo Pack will feature:

  • 2.39:1, 1080p Video
  • DTS-HD Master Audio 7.1 Audio
  • English SDH, Spanish, and French Subtitles
  • Capturing Speed: Making An Authentic Car Movie
  • Ties That Bind
  • The Circus Is In Town
  • Feature Audio Commentary with Director Scott Waugh and Aaron Paul
  • Monarch & Maverick Outtakes with Introduction by Director Scott Waugh
  • 4 Deleted Scenes with Introductions by Director Scott Waugh
  • The Sound Of Need For Speed
  • B-Camera - Crash Compilation with introduction by Director Scott Waugh (Easter Egg)
  • Need For Speed™ Rivals Trailer

And the movie has made $202M and change world wide in theaters. Still has Japan to go.

I think the home video market will decide sequel plans....I think a dvd sequel is more likely.

Also, the blu needs a 'Skip straight to the action extra option' lol.

*blows cobwebs away* hopefully it's okay to resurrect this thread, seeing as the BluRays are out in the UK today.

Plot was simple, the actors were decent.... But the racing... Holy freaking hell the racing and stunts were impressive as heck. Cannot believe the shot of Paul's guy at the end of the Agera R race... Honest thought that was some bloody good CGI trickery until I watched the extra's afterwards.

I thought this movie was pretty solid. If we're judging it on what qualifies as a good popcorn/entertainment movie, I would say this one hits the spot. It's capably shot, well directed and all the driving aspects of the movie felt real. When you make a movie based on the Need For Speed brand, you want your movie to have memorable racing, and IMO this movie really delivered on those notes.

What could have made it better was stronger and more memorable characters, especially Aaron Paul's character. I thought he did fine with the job he was given, but I would have loved some more depth for the character. He really was the typical handsome action hero who happens to be a perfect driver. One movie I wanna bring up as an example, that I know a lot of people hate on is Fast & Furious - Tokyo Drift. What I really like in that movie is that the protagonist is not a flawless driver. He starts out cocky and over confident, but he does not have the skill to back it up. He even gets his ass handed to him a few times, but over the movie he improves and practices, and that makes the final race so much more rewarding once he finally wins it. There was nothing like that in this movie. Our protagonist was basically superior right from the start, and nobody else really had a chance.

This was a very meh film. Not bad, but to me it's the best example of a movie that is best watched on FX or TNT on a bored afternoon. Theres no need to go out of your way to see it.

Aaron Paul was good and Dominic Cooper was servicable. The action/car races were insane and were really fun to watch.

However:
-Imogen Poots and the love story wasnt good. Just lazy and boring. OT: She might be the only British women whos American Accent I prefer to her actual voice.
-Toby's crew weren't bad, save for Kid Cudi. But they didnt have much to do. They couldve been written out
-Kid Cudi was horrible. They tried way too hard to make him funny and hip.
-The whole story was stupid and I dont mean B movie, "what did you expect in a NFS movie stupid".
-Toby caused way too much destruction for me to still like him. A lot of people call out Man of Steel for this, and while my thoughts on that are reserved for another thread, this is a more clear example of the hero just being a complete dick. I mean knocking almost killing a homeless guy and then laughing about it later?

Overall, as I said: it's very meh. 5/10

This movie was okay. The car races were pretty dope, but most things were kind of stupid. I enjoyed Michael Keaton a lot, though.

6/10

Need for Speed 2 in the work's.

http://variety.com/2015/film/asia/need-for-speed-sequel-electronic-arts-aaron-paul-1201468072/

A sequel to last year’s “Need for Speed” is in the works, with the same Chinese partners that helped Paramount make “Transformers: Age of Extinction” teaming up with Electronic Arts in hopes of co-producing.
Much of “Need for Speed 2″ would be filmed in China, with the nation’s actors also taking significant roles, according to an announcement of the new arrangement by joint venture partners China Movie Channel Program Center, Jiaflix Enterprises and 1905 Pictures, along with Electronic Arts, creator of the “Need for Speed” videogame.

And exactly two persons in the world are excited.

They're making a sequel to this? That's awful. This movie sucked. HARD.

I don't agree that it sucked, but it was so... unnecessary. Do we really need to see more of this? They'll probably turn this into a poor man's F&F.

It already is a poor man's F&F. Or at least it tried to be.

I hated this movie so much. It was such a waste of time.

And exactly two persons in the world are excited.

Pretty much this.

I have a friend whos a huge gear head who likes all the big car movies and he doesn't even care about this

This movie was stupid on so many levels. Whoever wins this race gets to keep all of the cars involved in it! So let's make sure we destroy every vehicle in the race!

The sequel news is both a surprise and expected for me.
