Universal Sets Release Date for 'Townies,' Starring Seth Rogen, Zac Efron

Townies will come to town on May 9, 2014.



On Monday, Universal announced the release date for the upcoming comedy, which stars Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne as a young couple who are forced to live next to a fraternity house after the birth of their newborn baby. Zac Efron also stars, as the leader of the frat.
The film, directed by Nick Stoller (Get Him to the Greek) from a script written by Andrew Cohen and Brendan O’Brien, is being produced by Good Universe and Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures.
Townies will share the May 9 release date with two other comedies: Jon Favreau's directorial project Chef and Tyler Perry's Single Moms Club.
Earlier on Monday, Universal also set a date for the psychological thriller The Loft, which will roll out in theaters on Aug. 29, 2014.

so a pattern is happening in hollywood with movie titles. and its getting to stupid to ignore. so hollywood is changing smart titles to words that desribe the movie.

Townies is a cute title. Neighbors is a 100% clear word that describes the movie. its about neighbors. i understand that this is promotion and that this is about money. the story can still be good. but does hollywood think we are to stupid or are we already to stupid?

He has pretty good comedic timing. I loved the trailer.

Has a real young parents/fear boy movie feel I dig it.

As a 21 year old whose most friends are now having kids I can relate to Seth. And as a partier i can relate to effron. I'm liking this. Lets hope the jokes aren't all slapstick over the time stuff... The baby condom part...

But I'm always up for some laughs.. Did Seth & Evan write the movie ? If so I can expect a poor third act. If not, I still expect a poor third act.

I only laughed at three parts:

1) The baby and the condom scene
2) "You talking to me?"
3) "Cute baby!"

Could be really funny, or lame. Especially the latter with Rogen headlining.

The last time Universal screened one of their big summer comedies at South by Southwest, it turned out to be "Bridesmaids" – a movie that not only proved to be a massive financial success (and a breakthrough for its co-writer/star Kristin Wiig) but a critical one as well, even earning an Academy Award nomination for its screenplay. So a fair amount of anticipation greeted tonight's "work-in-progress" (although look, it seems totally finished) screening of the new Seth Rogen/Zac Efron comedy "Neighbors." And while "Neighbors" doesn't come close to capturing "Bridesmaids'" emotional honesty, it could have a chance of one-upping that film in the box office. Simply put, "Neighbors" is one of the funniest, most visually inventive studio comedies in recent memory.
