Yup. It seems like EVERY thread on this board turns into a Nolan hate thread sooner or later.

Unfortunately. All it takes is a slight push and... BAM! Nolan is boring and a pretentious SOB all the sudden who they can't stand for 10-15 pages.

I don't get the hate over veteran directors.

With fanboys and the world in general: It's because there are very few people who are actually smart and many people who think they're smart.

It honestly pisses me off. I get it, not everybody is going to be a fan of the same director but calling Spielberg, for instance, overrated is absurd.

War Horse was a great movie. War of the Worlds sucked though. I can't defend Spielberg for that turd of a film.

After about my 10th time watching the trailer I noticed Kruger's forcefield they mentioned in the comic con footage last year. It's right at the end after Damons character Max shoots the gun you see a second of it.

Nolan actually haven't received that backlash yet, sure some complain but most are still in his corner.

You should visit some boards outside of The Hype. I know of a couple of other forums where most people are of the opinion that Christopher Nolan is about on the same level as Michael Bay.

It happens to every top-tier director (ex. Spielberg, Cameron, Nolan, etc). Once they reach that point of success, they're either overrated or pretentious.

For Spielberg I think it's deserved. His output since the turn of the century has been poor in my opinion.

War of the Worlds. That is all.

Oh and War Horse.

And Spielberg has, what, 30 other movies over the course of 4 decades? Manyial of which have been hugely influential and great in and of themselves and have come to us throughout his career.

Give me a break.

Few directors can claim to have put out films as good as AI, Minority Report and Catch Me if You Can in their entire careers, much less over the course of a year and half or during their late 50s.

Not that different.

And Blomkamp started his career working in effects, not in directing. It makes sense that his films are effects driven, especially given that his first film was based off of an effects driven short.

Very different career paths that have far more to do with how they started rather than when.
i think Blomkamp started working on effects because he wanted to make a movie.

And that's where we disagree, because I don't think those movies are very good.

this is happening because fanboys are trying to make Nolan into a god that will save the universe with his movies. its true lets not deny it.

Yep, this dude has made one film and to me it was decent but nothing more, no one even knows if this second one is actually good yet but it's like a porn pop shot convention in here, once he gets to film four the spiked rectal probes will be busted out and he'll be cannon fodder.

This is absolutely true. It's like how fanboys thought Nathan Fillion was perfect for every role in every movie for a while there.

Oh, come on. Spielberg has directed and produced some great films this past decade. Whether you concede or not, that's based on conjecture but I think Steven has done a decent job.

War Horse? Really? I thought the film was very good.

Oh god, I remember that. I had to keep telling people the actual truth: That Nathan Fillion will never get a lead role in a tentpole superhero movie.

Waaaaait a minute. Are you trying to tell me that Nathan Fillion wouldn't be perfect for Superman?

Well sir, I spent 500 hours in MS Paint making this manip, and it clearly proves otherwise:

In fairness Nathan Fillion is better than everyone, but carry on.

and lets not forget that fanboys hype a lot of people that they dont even know.

you would like to forget Sam Worthington in 2008 and 2009 summer. when he was the best actor on the planet because they found out that he is in a Cameron scifi movie. everyone was happy that he was in a terminator movie because he was in Avatar.
so i will remind you that he was a popular choice for green lantern.

That may be true, but it's equally ludicrous to act like the man committed a mortal sin because he did an adaptation that wasn't 100% the way some fanboy envisioned it.
