Netflix Changing Pricing Structure

On Amazon

Dear Customer,

I have big news for Amazon Prime members - we've just signed a deal with FOX to add a broad selection of movies and TV shows to our unlimited instant streaming service later this fall. The new additions from the FOX library include 24, Arrested Development, The X-Files, Ally McBeal, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and - available on digital video for the first time - The Wonder Years. We now have deals with CBS, NBCUniversal, Sony, and Warner Bros, and adding FOX will bring the total to more than 11,000 movies and TV shows available for unlimited instant streaming.

Since launching earlier this year, we have now doubled the number of titles available in Prime instant videos, and there's still more to come. Prime membership remains $79 a year, and of course features our unlimited free two-day shipping on millions of products. Prime is one of the best values anywhere.

Prime instant videos can be played on more than 300 HDTVs, Blu-ray players, and set-top boxes.

More of a reason to drop Netflix.

They need the new CBS Shows. No one has them yet

Netflix streaming still has a better selection than Amazon Prime IMO

Sweet.
I hope they add Prime to the PS3.

Same here. For me, Netflix would get dropped quick if they did that.

It does, but Amazon has slowly been expanding it's selection. The Fox announcement is a pretty big step. PS3 not having a Prime App is the only thing holding me back.

Doesn't Netflix have 24 already? Either way, Prime keeps to be on the up and up while Netflix seems to be on the decline.

There's also a way to get Prime on your 360 and PS3, it's kind of complicated but the Prime site tells you how to do it.

Amazon Instant Video had 24 before it even ended. They are just now adding it to Prime

Netflix has had Arrested Development, 24, X-Files and even Buffy I think, so this announcement isn't exactly earth shaking.

If someone can get FOX to agree to streaming all of The Simpsons, then I'll listen. Even Hulu Plus can't stream The Simpsons to TVs, it's restricted to web only.

Overall, I don't think Amazon Prime's free instant selection is any better than Netflix. I would gladly switch if they did show a big improvement, though. But it would be nice if they released an app on the 360/PS3.

Netflix scored a deal with Dreamworks Animation.

It does seem that Netflix did have a good excuse for separating streaming/mail-ins.

However, they handled it terribly.

You can't just raise subscriber prices 60% and expect people to understand and not be upset about it when you handle like taking a sledgehammer to a ferrari.

Ok...I took the plunge. I signed up for Amazon Prime and bought a $90 blu-ray player that streams Amazon Instant Video....wow. Ok, I take back everything I said about Amazon streaming service. They have a TON of content. I'm literally paying $70 a YEAR for all the tv content in HD where as with cable I'd have to pay $70-$80 a month. I even canceled blockbuster...don't need it for shows anymore or movies. :) I DO still subscribe to Netflix because they have more foreign films available for streaming.

Now I can get all the latest tv shows in HD without paying cable companies a dime. :) Cable is dead.

I'd still keep cable for ESPN, if I were you. :o

Amazon does not have all of the latest shows

I wish my bluray player did Prime. Netflix only :(

And, yes, cable is dead. That's one reason why Comcast is capping their internet users, to artificially keep their cable tv business propped up.

Well, guess what Comcast. My usage has actually fallen since I've started streaming over torrenting. And there's only about 3 or 4 shows I'll watch live on tv now.

Lol you just changed your mind and bought Prime and a blu-ray player in 24 hours.

Don't forget free 2-day shipping on anything, even a $2 HDMI cable :oldrazz:

2 years ago Prime would sometimes get it to me next day. Now it's always 2 days, though if I order something on Thursday to come Saturday, it will ship FedEx and sometimes come Friday. Either they're faster or don't want to work Saturdays.

Prime is awesome, especially at the holidays. It paid for itself 2 fold for me. Adding streaming to it was icing.

Pretty good. They even get On Demand stuff sometimes

That's what's keeping my family from going streaming.

We were going to try blockbuster's free month, but I'm thinking we should try Prime's first. But that means buying a new blu-ray player, which is fine if I can find a deal. I'll just give my current player to my mom.
