The gambeson doesn't look quite as bad as the screentest. However, not enough scars or spikes.

You know what kind of weirds me out about the images? Ciri looks borderline the same age or even older in these photos as Anya Chalotra. I don't know if it's the lighting, make-up or whatever. Yeah. Just weirds me out.

Other than that, I think they look fairly good.

If I didn't already know about the other actors and guessed on looks alone, I would have thought this was Triss.

Freya doesn't look the same or even older in comparison to Anya. lol

Yeah she kinda does.
I'm not sure what's weird about it. It happened before. In Witcher 3. Yennefer and Ciri appear like having 5-10 years age difference max. Bot are adult women. Ciri here looks older than books Ciri, but certainly younger than Witcher 3 Ciri. They will definitely rewrite her to adapt her age. So no first menstruation scenes or something like that. It's still possible to craft daughter-mother dynamic.

That was a video game where Ciri was 22 at that point. A number of years have passed. This is not the video games. This is set much earlier where Ciri should be much younger. So it's pretty flawed logic.

And no they are not both adult women. When we meet Ciri in the story she's like 12 years old.

The Witcher show doesn't pretend Ciri is 11 years old. She will be around 15 (played by 17-18 years old actress). Still a growing girl.

Maybe you got my example wrong, because I wanted to illustrate that physical age isn't critical for crafting mother-daughter dynamic. And Witcher 3 is the proof (without having a single scene between kid Ciri and Yennefer).

I believe you're talking book accuracy, but for me it's not that relevant. As long as the characters act according their age.

Does anyone know what kind of accents they're going to use in this thing? I hope they aren't doing American accents. I know it feels generic to just have everyone speak with an English accent in every mystical fantasy movie/series, but it's way worse when everyone sounds American. They did that with that stupid Seventh Son movie and it was awful.

To be fair, Sorceress' looks are magically changed and appear much younger than they are. Yennifer is supposed to be a hunchback.

If it's anything like the game it'll be a mixture of European and American accents. Doug Cockle used a standard American accent when voicing Geralt.

I hope they don't do that. For some reason, American accents in fantasy video games don't bother me (maybe because the characters are all CGI creations) but they do in film adaptations. Also, Cavill is like 100% more charismatic when he uses his natural accent.

He is, but I'm not so sure I'm into Geralt having a smooth British accent.

Lauren S. Hissrich (writer/showrunner):

GERALT IS: Stoic. Circumspect. Balanced. Fierce. Soft-and-squishy-in-a-tiny-place-in-his-heart-that-he'll-never-reveal-until-maybe-the-end-and-even-then-it-will-just-be-a-hint-AND-yes-he-only-carries-one-sword-until-wait-for-it...

CIRI IS: Resilient. Relentless. Brazen. Growing. Going-to-change-the-world-and-what-the-hell-is-she-supposed-to-do-except-be-scared-&-bold-&-learn-&-adapt-&-find-a-family-who-can-walk-by-her-side-no-matter-what-and-maybe-just-maybe-teach-her-the-meaning-of-love.

YENNEFER IS: Fiery. Proud. Shrewd. Contradictory. Seeking-to-fill-a-family-sized-hole-in-her-heart-even-though-she-resents-it-&-swears-she's-just-fine-on-her-own-but-she-is-not-and-we-love-her-for-being-both-independent-and-vulnerable.

OK but that's not my point. I'm just saying that in these images, it almost looks like Ciri, who is already supposed to be younger at this point looks older than Anya Chalotra. And her age has been a point of contention for me. Ultimately, the show's content will tell the truth or not, but she is young and she looks young. And here, she looks younger than Ciri. It's weirding me out.

I'm not judging any footage or clips, just the images.

EDIT:

Quite frankly, based on some of the social media reactions, a lot of people posting on Twitter have never read a Witcher book in their lives.

Trailer will likely debut at Comic-con.

Netflix Sets ‘The Dark Crystal’ And ‘The Witcher’ For Comic-Con – Deadline

The original series The Witcher will be the first to take the stage on Friday, July 19 from 2:15 pm to 3 pm. Based on the best-selling fantasy series of books, The Witcher is an epic tale of fate and family. Be among the first to get the exclusive scoop on the highly anticipated new Netflix original series centering around famed monster hunter, Geralt of Rivia. Be introduced to the world of The Continent, where humans, elves, witchers, gnomes, and monsters battle to survive and thrive, and where good and evil is not easily identified.
Very nice. Not far away at all.

Yeah, you're probably right about that too. Hopefully they found something that works.

It's all because our only frame of reference of Geralt is the video games and Doug Cockle's voice.

I doubt anyone here watched the Polish TV series. Some have probably heard the audio books. You can buy them on Audible/Amazon.

Yes SDCC is the place you go for blind loyalty above all. D&D will likely be safe there lol.

Yeah, even Terminator Genisys got tons of cheers at Comic-Con. I enjoy reading Free Folk and all, but I rarely if ever hear people get boos or booed out at Comic-Con. In fact, I can't ever recall it happening.

Anyway, overall I will say I'm fairly encouraged by the images. It's not a lot, but the costumes look good. I think Cavill's costume and sword look cool, but we still need to see more.
