Fantasy Netflix's The Witcher - General Discussion Thread

Looking like April 2020 unfortunately.

If so what happened to a November or December release? I haven't looked today but I checked Netflix late last night hoping they may have added the trailer early and it still said New 2019.

I want to watch the trailer one or two more time before I comment on it.

Not sure why they needed to turn Brokilon into Wakanda, though. They even look almost identical. The only thing I outright disliked about the trailer.

Witchers have two swords. One need not to wield them at the same time. But a silver sword is not built to survive the stress of normal usage.

I thought the trailer was good overall but there was so much going on that it was hard to get a sense of what the story is even about. Having never read the books or played the games, all I can gather is there are these people called Witchers, this girl with some sort of mouth deformity (which hilariously looks a bit like Cavill’s infamous CGI Justice League Mouth) looks like she’ll be transformed into something powerful, there’s a little girl who factors into it somehow, and this Witcher dude likes to fight a lot.

Yeah, I expected the trailer to be more "welcoming" to those not in the know. If you aren't familiar with the books it's hard to make sense of what the show is about beyond swords and magic.

Yeah. I’m not sure when this comes out so I suppose they have time to show more and give people a sense of the story. But I feel like the “less is more” approach would have been better here. Give me some idea of who the title character is and what Witchers are. Give me some clue as to where this takes place (Is it prehistoric Europe? Is it a whole other planet?). Give me a bit of the two other central characters and maybe some quick action shots. I think they are banking on fans of the books and the games knowing what’s going on and maybe they do but the rest of us are left scratching our heads.

I believe they wanted to sell it as a high budget fantasy show with all these bells and whistles like magic, sword fighting, monsters and so on. It's not palace intrigue like GoT where sharp dialogue and scope of events - biggest selling points. Witcher ultimately a classic fantasy adventure with a twist and it's hard to sell it while relying on that.

Actually sharp dialogue and scope of events should be a big part of the Witcher's selling points. It is why the game got over so much. Because of how well written the dialogue is.

Those people who were not a fan of Cavill's acting after watching Batman V Superman movie, will not change their minds about Cavill's acting after watching the Geralt trailer.

They should have given Cavill some lines to speak.

Everything I have seen still says 2019. No reason to think it has been delayed. At least not yet.

There's no way Netflix of all people would release a full-blown trailer for something they're not planning to release 'til April of next year. These are the folks who often drop trailers like a week or two before they release something, constantly leaving people confused as to why they never heard about it. Only their most-hyped show (Stranger Things) got a teaser a year in advance, and that didn't have any footage of the actual season.

Yeah, didn't the first proper trailer for Stranger Things 3 come out like in March? Netflix hold onto their trailers really close to release these days. Then then they wonder why people aren't hyped or don't know it is coming out.

I didn't even notice her in the trailer. Sad. She is one of my favorite things about the games, and that is saying something.
