New Avengers?

They've been pretty reliable so far, plus I used to work for them so I'm inclined to believe it :funny: but New Avengers feels like the logical next step after Phase III ends, since a lot of roles will need recasting.

My prediction of the New Avengers Roster

Shield Director Maria Hill

Captain America (Bucky)
Dr. Strange
Black Panther
Ant-Man
Wasp
Quicksilver
Scarlet Witch

Other possibilities
Hulk (Ruffalos contract was 6 films)
Thor (Chris Hemsworth could be easily resigned)
Hawkeye (Jermey Renner could easily be resigned)
Mrs Marvel (50/50 on whether or not we see her)
Nick Fury (Sam has said he wants to play the character forever)

Not Likely
Ironman (Downey is probably done barring a cameo)
Captain America (Evans is likely done)
Black Widow (Scarlett most likely done)

Wait... New Avengers as in Illuminati New Avengers with Black Panther, Black Bolt and Dr. Strange!? Holy simoleans, sign me up RIGHT NOW. Good night. I'm so down. So down.

I think the big "get" for New Avengers will be Spidey. At that point Sony will have had 7 Spider-Man solo films in the can, and what better way to launch a new series than by having the next Spider-Man - Miles Morales - introduced in an Avengers film? Marvel gets the star power the Avengers need for a successful post Big Three series and Sony gets the MCU inclusion.

wait, all the source said was there will be movies with new Avengers, which this site translated as movies with the New Avengers. The Bendis-Abomination won't get a movie.

Bingo! We have a winner.

Unleash The Fanboy is just misinterpreting their source by arbitrarily capitalizing "NEW Avengers" when all she said was that there would be "new (small letters, see?) Avengers" in Phase 4.

Which we pretty much all could have already guessed.

New Avengers with the illuminati? Yes. New Avengers with Wolverine? Eww

I don't know that it will be the actual New Avengers. It is more likely that there will simply be a MAJOR roster shakeup after Phase III, where most if not all of the "founding" Avengers will leave. We'll get almost a completely new roster, at least that's my guess. As for such a roster, here's my choices:
1. Black Panther.
2. Captain Marvel (Carol Danvers).
3. Ant Man.
4. Wasp.
5. Luke Cage.
6. Falcon.

Captain America (Bucky)
Dr. Strange
Black Panther
Vision
Scarlet Witch
Quicksilver
Ant Man
Falcon

The New Avengers roster:

Howard the Duck (team leader)
D-Man
Spider-Ham
Maggot
Giant Sized Man-Thing
Dazzler

Villains:
Dr. Bong
Hellcow
The Asbestos Lady

When I think of the new avengers I tend to think of the street avengers that bendis wrote around about the civil war era.

Since the defenders is filling that slot I'm not too worried about seeing a new avengers movie

My prediction for the roster New Avengers:

Captain America
Ms. Marvel
Black Panther
Namor
Luke Cage

Yup, I'm thinking more along the lines of "new Avengers" than "New Avengers". I just think there'll be a roster shake-up with 3 members (Stark, Thor, Rogers) of the big 4 leaving because of contract reasons (in real life) and story reasons (in the MCU).

This is how I'd go:

1. Black Panther
2. Bucky Cap
3. Captain Marvel
4. Hulk (since Ruffalo's still under contract)
5. Scarlet Witch
6. Quicksilver
7. Falcon
8. War Machine

Rather than including Dr. Strange in that lineup, I'd have him assemble his own team in his sequel, Dr. Strange: Midnight's Sons, where he'd round up the likes of Blade, Ghost Right, etc.

My Phase 4 would look like this:

1. Captain Marvel (if not included in Phase 3, which is looking likely)
2. GOTG 2
3. Black Panther (if not included in Phase 3, which is looking likely)
4. New Avengers (with the above roster)
5. Dr. Strange 2: Midnight's Sons (serves as a sequel combined with a supernatural team up)
6. Inhumans
7. Avengers 4: Galactus Hungers (all characters mentioned above, plus characters from the various TV shows)

Note that I'm expecting the Fantastic Four rights (one planet-eating being included) to revert by then. Phase 5 kicks off with a "real" and proper Fantastic Four movie.

I don't think the source's "new Avengers" comment refers to either (a) Bendis' New Avengers, OR (b) replacement Avengers. Nothing that the source said indicates either.

Again: all the source actually says is that there will be new Avengers in Phase 4. Big whoop. There'll be new Avengers in Phase 2. And almost certainly in Phase 3.

No news to see here, folks. Move along.

Agreed. However, after Avengers 3, RDJ's, Evans' and Hemsworth's contracts will be up and there is a distinct possibility that none of them are re-signed for future movies.

If this is the case, a good way to raise the profile of the new characters would be a "mid-Phase 4" team-up movie, prior to the absolute superhero-fest that would be Avengers 4.

If this is the case, "New Avengers" would serve as a serviceable title, and like "Age of Ultron" and Netflix's "The Defenders" wouldn't have too much to do with the comicbook teams and story arcs of the same name. Just a bit of harmless speculating here. :)

If you take out the big four something like this...
Cap "appears" to have been assassinated by Crossbones (death of Captain America style storyline)
Hulk gets shot into space (leading into Planet Hulk)
Stark quits (to become either Director of SHIELD or go into politics or something)
Thor remains in Asgard on the throne (after deposing Loki in Thor 3)
...and write Black Widow out as being a traitor (Ultimates storyline)

You've then got the following to choose from already...

Hawkeye (maybe as Goliath?)
War Machine
Falcon
Captain America (Bucky Barnes)
(...but these may stay more as a SHIELD affiliated team leaving...)

Scarlet Witch
Quicksilver
Ant-Man
(Scott Lang)
Doctor Strange

...after which the next lot of recruits would be...

Vision? (a possibility after Ultron has appeared)
Swordsman or Black Knight? ... I'd go for the Swordsman
Hercules? ... doubt it after two recent films featuring the mythological Hercules
Black Panther? ... I expect he'll have had at least a mention by the end of Phase 3.
Mantis? ... not when there's other higher profile characters that could be used.
Beast? ... not happening
Moondragon? ... could be brought over from the GOTG films
Hellcat? ...could work as love interest for Barton, especially in the absence of Black Widow
Two-Gun Kid? ... are you serious?
Captain Marvel ?(Carol Danvers)? ... for me this would have to have an all new origin story featuring the Kree, Monica Rambeau and others.
Wonderman? ... could be introduced when Black Panther brings in his brother The Grim Reaper, and Zemo is part of his backstory so would work nicely
Tigra? ... rather have Black Panther as the feline-themed hero and for some female muscle...
She-Hulk? ... Now this is one that could really work and I'd love to see her in the movies soon
Starfox? ... Thanos connection makes him part of the bigger picture but I can't see him appearing really.
Namor? ... never really liked the guy but I could see the Atlanteans appearing after the Inhumans have mentioned their existence.
Doctor Druid? ... Doctor Strange performs the same function so i doubt it.

...take your pick :)

Please don't make Black Widow a traitor, that was one of the few things i was hoping they wouldn't adapt from Ultimates since i knew Avengers was coming out.

I hope Tony Stark in Avengers 3 is much different than the one right now, after RDJ gets out of the franchise i don't want the next actor to just mimick what he already did, he can still be fun and charismatic, but i hope he is much more mature by then.

They're not going to take out the Big Three (Cap, Thor, Iron Man). Not only are they the iconic core of comic-book Avengers, but they're the financial core of the studio.

If/when RDJ, Evans, and Hemsworth contract out, those roles *will* be recast. Bank on it.

So Avengers 4 would be around...2020 I assume. I'm HOPING by some miracle (even though all logic dictates it won't happen) that Marvel can get Spidey and Wolverine back for this. Could you IMAGINE how huge that movie would be? Spidey, Wolverine, Ironman and Captain America all in the same movie?

I would probably go see it.

There's no way Marvel are going to have Spidey and Wolverine back any time soon...

The Amazing Spider-Man franchise has got another two sequels to go after TASM2 and there's also Sinister Six and Venom spin-offs in the works.

Likewise the X-Men franshise has DOFP and Apocalypse lined up after that with Wolverine 3, Deadpool and from the looks of the new characters they're introducing, possibly X-Force as additional movies in the franchise, not to mention a potential post-Apocalypse reset from Singer that irons out all the creases :)

The best we could hope for in terms of Spidey and Wolverine featuring in a "New Avengers" line-up would be if the Oscorps experiments were connected to the Cap and Hulk experiments (as in Ultimates ... and maybe with a Fury cameo in the Spider-Man franchise for exposition?) and then have the X-Men find themselves in a world full of non-mutant superheroes (ie the MCU) following a reset after Apocalypse.
But that would require both excessive amounts of goodwill and co-ordination on the parts of THREE major studios and that just isn't going to happen, though it's nice to dream.
I just wish we weren't getting two different versions of Quicksilver :/

Sometimes I wonder what if Sony and Fox decided to team up with each other for a Spiderman and the X-Men kind of movie. I don't think anyone would see that coming and that could give Marvel's Avengers a run for their money.

I doubt it. To begin with they'd have to have a good script, something they haven't even come close to doing. However, signing Drew Goddard to write the Sinister Six movie was a good move on their part. Regardless, I won't see any Spider-Man or X-Men related movies until the rights revert back to Marvel. I have yet to see a really good movie by Sony or Fox. Some have been decent, but nothing even close to The Avengers.

Imo Spider-man 2 is the still the pinaccle of superhero movies. In my opinion. I dunno, that movie just really got the core of Spider-man: this down on his luck guy who rises above it all and becomes a true selfless hero. To me, that movie is a blueprint on how to do superhero films. I've yet to encounter any other superhero film that rises to this level, including TDK and Avengers and I love both of those films.
