New Blade Comic: Stinks!

Putting aside the quality of the series on paper it does look that Joe Q is making an effort.

Guggenheim has just sold a boat load of wolverine comics and chakin is an industry legend.

My problem with Vertigo these days is that it no longer feels like it is within the DCU. MAX would be perfect for characters such as Blade, the Punisher, Ghost Rider, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Elektra, Wolverine, Shang-Chi, Howard the Duck, Black Widow, Deathlok, and Daredevil. The line needs more ongoings though, enough with the minis.

You just brought back a horrible memory for me. Cage's Max title was disgusting to say the least.:csad:

I'm pretty sure that Cage has been the only Azzarello work that's been panned across the board.

Superman: For Tomorrow...you'd be hard pressed to find someone who liked it :o

You don't NEED the movie concept. At least I don't think so. I think what he needs is a good writer who can understand how to write what he is and what he does.

Hannibal King and Francis Drake would make great allies for him, maybe even Werewolf by Night or something too, I dunno. Hell, you could even put a Ghost Rider on there. Dan Ketch, maybe.

I just don't know if Blade is working as a solo character. They keep trying and it just doesn't work.

Ive never seen how movie Blade and comics Blade were so dissimilar that you couldnt capture the look and feel of the movies without throwing out nearly 35 years of continuity.

Comics Blade is soooo corny! Movie Blade is so much cooler. You only have a handful of comic fans that know how he was in the comics and millions who know of him in movies. They seem like two different characters. Just scrap the comic Blade and give him a variety of villians.

I really don't see why there has to be a cnflict between the two. Comic Blade's powers have already evolved into those of a dhampir, so he's good to go.

I would think so to. With characters like those, the MAX line could really feel like a legitmate part of the Marvel Universe but with more mature themes. DC's Vertigo is sorely lacking that feeling.

Wolverine really needs to go to the MAX line.

I agree with that, but Wolverine is too mainstream.

Ouch.

Okay guys,... Time out.

Too bad this is about money or I'd askMarvel to do all three for a year and then dump the two that don't sell well.

Ultimate Blade - Movie Version set in the Ultimate Universe.

MU Blade - Quasi-Movie/Comic Version set in the 616 Universe.

Vertigo/Max Blade - In his own seperate, not really affiliated, but lots of sex and violence Universe.

...................... And I would faithfully continue to buy the winner after the year is up because to be tops it would have to have good writing and fair art.

Peace.

Ok I got this, and a few qs before my thoughts...

First, when was spiderman infected by a vampire? Did I miss something?

And another thing, when did the shield hellicarrier become infested with vampires?

and wasn't dracula killed (along with looking younger and fresher) in the last tomb of dracula series?

All this stuff confused me greatly.

He also did seem really condescending in his column though about blade fans....I mean he spoke the truth but he was being a dick about it.

It was ok...I didn't hate it, but I certainly didn't love it. It felt too rushed, like it was packed full of ideas that could have been done better in a longer arc, and full of pointless cameos for the sake of it (spidey? I highly doubt other spidey titles will acknowledge he was vamped.....maybe im wrong though) and dracula (it took me a while to figure out who it was, the artist's rendition wasn't so hot).

I'll stick with it for a while, but the last tomb of dracula series was far superior.

I never thought blade was interesting enough to begin with. And being half vampire is like being half pregnant. The whole premise sucks.

I loved that book. The problem is issue by issue you might not like it but in TPB form you'll get into it and like it.

In Order:
1. The fact that it happened in his school points to Parker getting nailed before he could stop it. His being "vamped" happened off screen and got Blades attention.

2. It's currently Canon that there are more than one Sheild Helicarrier - This one is / was chock-full of Vampires.

3. Blame the Dracula Snafu on the Editors At Marvel,... "EXILES" has explained alot of their Gaffs away,... but doesn't cover everything.

I disagree.
Only because halflings and Hybrids have ALWAYS been interesting reading for me.

Mostly I like 'em because if the halfling is weaker than the dominate or more powerful part that formed them,.. they don't share the weakness of the dominate.

If they are stronger than both, (Namor), They usually crop up with NEW powers/abilities neither parent has, (Flight, proof against small arms fire.)

Half pregnant????

and this is how I knew the series was gonna fail. Blade isnt a superhero. He doesnt fight vampires and supernatural creatures because he's defending us. He does it because the screwed up his life and killed his mom. Blade would have and should have filled a niche that is missing in the Marvel universe...the supernatural. Sure there is a GR book out there but if there wasnt a movie would we be seeing this book. I dont think it'll get old focusing on the supernatural...lord knows shows like Buffy, Angel, Blade(duh), Supernatural and Charmed can do it for several seasons why cant this comic

So what exactly is wrong with this comic. Im hearing two things.

1. It was too much like the movie Blade

2. It wasnt enough like the movie Blade.

I need this question answered ASAP.

Im a fan of the movies and have never read a Blade comic before. I thought this wasnt enough like the movies. Blade pestered the bad guys in one scene kind of like Spiderman might and i think he smiled too. The design (or maybe it was just the art) was terrible. Blade seems like the type that would be forced to become a Howling Commando and would be less cooperative in the process. They also show flashbacks of Blades birth and training which suggested he had been alive for at least a 100 years. They also treated vampires more supernaturally using legends like no reflections and such while the movie treated them more scientifically i thought (like the Romero zombies vs. original Voodoo zombies)

The only differences I liked was the use of both silver and wood as possible weapon materials against the vampires. The silver is obviously an attempt to use modern weaponary which is cool and stylish but it also clings to the original legend by using wooden stakes. They also used the comic Deacon Frost in a flashback instead of the movie version.

Okay, cerealkiller, two points:

1) In the Marvel Universe, vampires are mystical in nature. They're human/demon hybrids created by a cult/terrorist group way back in Atlantis when the empire was still above the sea. However, Marvel tends to treat magic stuff a bit more scientifically than other forms of fiction, so their nature could still be explained througha combination of magic and technobabble.

2) Blade has a sense of humor. It's rather twisted and dark, but he's been known to smile and crack jokes. Usually at the expense of people around him.

Still, I really don't see how the comics and the movies need to be reconciled. They already have been. Blade's powers evolved from a simple imunity to vampire powers to those of a dhampir.

I understand that but darthphere asked if it was more or less like the movie and I described what was different from the movie.

That's kind of my problem with Blade. I want this character to work but he really is just a killer. Think about it: if all the vampires died, what would he do? He'd probably continue to kill. I think he should join Marvel universe(an Avengers maybe)and have him eliminate all vampires and give him direction like Black Panther did. Hudlin really wrote him well. Again the vampire only thing is getting old.

I've really enjoyed Guggenheim's over the top Wolverine, so I decided to pick this up.

I know next to nothing about Blade, I haven't even seen Blade: Trinity yet, and I still enjoyed it. It was decent, but the art really hurt it, and the back story was very wtf-ey.
