New Devil May Cry 4 Hands on

The worry I have with Nero is that he seems like a carbon copy of Dante so will there be anything new?

Dantes story seems well wrapped up...mother, brother and father sparda. So I can accept a new lead but he better be good.

Has anyone bought or seen this game yet today? As of Tuesday the 5th? Or do I really have to wait till tomorrow?

Ill wait till it goes on sale for $40 or less

i got an email from Game saying that my DMC is being processed, so it should be in my hands in a couple of days

Nero's sorta an angrier version of young Dante in DMC3. There's a rumor circulating that his personality leans more to Vergil had he been raised with humans. I also suspect Nero's character is to pretty much capture the chick vote with the whole love story between him and Kyrie. Its okay, but it does tarnish his supposed bad boy image.

[BLACKOUT][BLACKOUT]Weapons...Well, since this is techniclly Nero's first foray I guess the creators don't really know what to do with that arm. If Nero does appear in a Sequel/Prequel, we might see other uses for the arm rather than weak platforming elements. Overall he's a bearable character. Kinda like a younger brother Dante wish he could have had just to annoy the **** outta him.

Dante's character gets a major boost in terms of humour. You'll never see him funnier than in DMC4. A friend of mine asked me a question after I told him I completed the game: "Does he say 'Devils never cry'?" and when I told him no he was like "What the Hell kind of DMC is this??".

Weapons-wise....Well Dante doesn't exactly have alot of face time in the game. So don't expect many weapons during the main gameplay. I'm trying to unlock Bloody Palace mode and this so-called secret Cutscene but I've got to beat Agnus to do it.

If anything...the game feels very rushed. Lots of repeat boss fights, unchallenging platform and puzzle elements, decent graphics for this gen but something is missing and no its not Dante. Remember, I'm not a DMC fan/hater so I play the game as neutrally as possible. But **** there a so-called lockdown stages (where the red barrier appears) and all you've got to do is beat like 2 demons to break down the barriers. Very weird. The AI isn't very impressive and the bosses seem on/off. Granted they're a LOT easier to fight with Nero thanks to his uber-Cheap Devil Bringer but the bosses lack ooomph too. This game NEEDS to be harder.

Storyline wise the game does take a slight change to having Demons invade the Human world but rather what if Humans tried to take the fight to the Demon World....great concept poor delivery.[/BLACKOUT][/BLACKOUT]

Eurogamer review: 7/10

When we finished DMC3, we wondered what Capcom would do with new hardware. The answer is not an awful lot. The visuals are better, the combat's more accessible, the upgrade system's pleasingly flexible, but in practically every other sense Capcom has passed up the opportunity to do something new and exciting. After more than seven years, the Devil May Cry series finds itself in the same kind of safe, reliable trough that Resident Evil was in before Resi 4. DMC4 can still fall back on rock-solid combat mechanics and some standout moments, but it feels as though it's comfortable to slowly refine what was good about previous versions rather than evolve into something spectacular.

The Good
Extraordinary action sequences highlighted by smooth controls and slick animations.
Nero is a great new character with some terrific new moves.
Beautiful visuals and incredible cutscenes will constantly amaze you.
Boss characters are designed well and fun to fight.

The Bad
Environments and boss fights are repeated far too often.
Puzzles and platforming aren't much fun and chop up the pace too much.

How is Nero?

Nero's gameplay is more fun than Dante's, imo. The arm adds a lot to the combat, makes it faster and the animations for different enemies concerning the arm are awesome. Story wise, Nero is kind of a punk honestly. His sole objective is to save his girl and it gets a little annoying but his does have his moments and I wouldn't mind seeing him in a sequel, especially with a story that doesn't revolve around the love angle. Dante is still the badass here though. Some people might have problems because they don't really explain what the arm is exactly but if you've got half a brain you'll be able to figure it out, it doesn't really need to be said.

I have assumed that his arm is just a devil weapon - am I wrong?

No, there is a little more to it than that. I'd be angry if it was because without a story for it they should have just given it to Dante and not bothered with a new character at all. I guess that's where some of the compliants about the story come from, they don't actually tell you what it is but
judging from what happens when Nero gets Vergil's sword Yamato it's a pretty good guess that the arm is Vergil trying to get back to the human world.
. I personally think that a lot of this game and Nero's character is set up for the next game in the series. Hopefully they decide to keep going with Nero's story.

That would be cool indeed.

I'm fixing to start on Mission 5, and so far I'm enjoying the game alot.

Doesn't Nero's devil trigger look just like Vergil floating above his head? If that's the case I'd say that Nero is either a reincarnation of Vergil and his arm is the first sign of what's to come, or Vergil is using Nero to come back to the human world. You said they don't fully explain it though correct? I'm actually more okay with this then if Nero was just another brother. The timeline wouldn't make any sense whatsoever.

So i got the game today in the mail from game ( gotta love how they send you the game a day early )

i havent played it yet though, gonna put it on later after ive watched a film :D

If that turns out to be true that would rock!

Ok....im stuck :csad:
I'm at the bit where you have to go back to head quaters so i guess i just gotta go all the way back to where the game first started?

btw im only on like lvl 4 or 5

EDIT: dont worry, i was thinking i had to backtrack and forgot about the bridge.
