New Flash Gordon film views

I'm glad that Matthew Vaughn is doing it. Because if Len Wiseman or whoever was gonna do it, expect it to be super slick with blue filters. Nasty.

And ya know, Matthew Vaughn makes good movies while Wiseman...doesn't.

My issue with the Total Recall remake was that Collin Ferrell, before he goes to Recall, already has a 6 pack. Image if Paul Giamatti played the role instead, and all of sudden, he knows martial arts and gets the girl. I think that would be more relatable than the already handsome and fit Ferrell.

Well in fairness, that was the case with Arnold, too. My problem with the remake was just pure blandness.

I think because it was Arnold still in his prime, and Paul Venhorven, I give it a pass due to sheer insanity. The remake didn't take enough steps or changes to make it an experience.

Colin Firth as Ming the Merciless LOL

As begin part of the making of the short film i hope everyone here takes the time if they want to and spread it around, it would help tremendously not only for flash gordon fans but also for 2D animation fans. Hopefully it can show interest in a flash gordon show as well, and knowing Robb personally he is a tremendous artist and great guy, so any little thing is super appreciated.

I dont usually like self promotion but this is a very special project to everyone involved, and i hope you all guys and girls enjoy it

Will probably cast Samuel L. Jackson as Ming the Merciless.

"Ah hell no Flash Gordon! This ain't that kind of comic strip!"

Wonder if the studio is anxious to get this into production after Star Wars's monster opening. Sci-fi adventure is bigger than ever thanks to Guardians of the Galaxy and of course Star Wars. Here's the original property that inspired them all.

People want to see new Star Wars. They aren't interested in new Flash Gordon, who hasn't been relevant in decades.

After how badly John Carter went down, being the originator that's been imitated countless times is a disadvantage.

Yeah exactly. I mean look at the Lone Ranger.

Guardians of the Galaxy was a new type of space opera. It combined the classic Star Wars aesthetic with modern dialogue and sensibilities.

If you did a big budget reboot of Flash Gordon, it would probably be a struggle to balance that tone the way Guardians and Star Wars do it. Plus how do you cast that film? At least with Star Wars, audiences are going for the brand and not so much the actors.

Flash Gordon doesn't have the value of a brand like Star Wars. The old movie is only beloved as a sort of cult film for its camp and kitsch and for its so bad its good factor.

How good was that last Dynamite comic series? Would it serve as a decent base for a new film?

But isn't that the reason you get a director like Matthew Vaughn? To re-imagine the whole thing? Look at Sherlock Holmes with Guy Ritchie. That took a "stale" franchise and re-invigorated it. It became a blockbuster and this was before the BBC series and the other American series.

Eh, I feel like Flash Gordon has a better chance of being a hit than John Carter. Although Carter predates Gordon, Gordon still has more name recognition. On the other hand though, it's going to need truly stunning visuals and probably some big names to draw people in. But, if done right, I think it could be a hit.

I still love the visuals of the 1980 film. While I understand why they would update the technology, I would hope that they would keep the general style. The way the sky was handled, the costumes etc were so different and cool looking.

Abrams made successful reboots of two space franchises. Wouldn't it be crazy if he was offered to direct Flash Gordon too?

Given that people want him for Green Lantern Corps too, he should probably add "Space" to his job title. :woot:

Also, I want Mickey Rourke as Ming the Merciless.

Good point. Also, if Legend of Tarzan, which is a concept that, much like Flash Gordon, could be labeled by some as "quaint", gets to be a hit, I can very much see this Flash Gordon-project getting pushed more to reach fruition.
