Peter Stormare would be a good fit for Emperor Ming

For the movies recast thread I had Stormare as Zarkov and Mads Mikkelsen as Ming.

I love Flash Gordon. It's probably my favorite movie of all time...and I actually LIKE the way it looks. I'd like for them to do a sequel rather than a reboot...figure out a way to get the audience up to speed and pretend that only a few years had passed or something...and do an updated take on those cool special effects.

i watched flash gordon for the first time a year or so ago... im not sure i understand how it has such a huge cult following... i thought it was awful lol

I guess only because it was touched by Queen...

To me, the quintessential Flash Gordon movie to this day is Filmation's animated film Flash Gordon:The Greatest Adventure of All. Blows the Hodges/DeLaurentis film out of water.

A shame this Isn't on DVD.The first season of the animated show they produced was good.

I prefer the 30's serial,the first season of animated show and of course the animated film over the 1980 film.

Yes I agree with this x100. I would even love to see it as a period piece set in the original year Flash Gordon was released (although that would be a bit risky I guess for fox)

It's a masterpiece of camp. From Max von Sydow to Brian Blessed, there's some really great over the top performances...and some of those lines!
"Klytus I'm booooored."
It's not just about the Queen soundtrack, but that's part of it.

Ive always thought Flash Gordon as a franchise could be a goldmine if done right.

Even the most upper crust person doesn't even do polo these days, they may update it to a more recent sport unless they set it in the 30s.

I agree and I think it would be so easy to adapt this right. All the epicness is just lying there waiting to be adapted.

The 1980 film already updated fllash to football player.

This has great poential. Flash was heavy influence on Star Wars. And george Lucas made star wars when he couldn't get the rights to flash gordon film.

Do we need to mention which sport he plays? It's a bit jockish. It's one of the things I like that have changed over time. In the 1940s everyone fantasised about being the jock then about the 1980s people started to barrack for the unlucky nerd and then there's today where geeks are often the hero and even considered sexy

I think it's accurate in a sense. He's kind of this guy whose only known for being a popular athlete then something bigger comes along and he has to actually make a difference.

After Star Wars's success i wonder why Lucas didn't try to do Flash Gordon again, i'm sure that by then no studio would have refused him.
