New Flash Gordon film views

Flash Gordon will no longer be a blonde white guy…he'll be black or latin for the sake of diversity.

:hehe:

I want a nod to Flash's polo playing past.

Flash's dad:"Are you trying out for the college polo team this year?"
Flash: " I'm not playing polo!"

:woot:

They needs someone with experience playing a Flash, so... cast Joe Mangianello.

That wouldn't suprise me and it's quite a good idea. I definitely think some of the supporting cast like dale and prince barin will be played by minority actors

Explain. Do you have a problem with minority actors?

Sivermoth, how dare you suggest a mixed cast? We all know that the heroes all need to be clearly white and the villain clearly asian

I think it could work if they do something like the newer Star Trek films, where they show respect for the cheesy source material while still giving it a fresh spin.

And I just found out the writers of the upcoming Star Trek 3 are doing this, so I'm content.

It'll be a cold day in Hades before they cast an Asian actor as Ming. But,that doesn't matter to me since Ming was never played by an Asian actor previously.Apart from him being originally drawn with somewhat Asian characteristics,he's an alien.

Well, Khan was rebooted as a white British man, so who knows what they'll do?

Hmm... So will Ming even have the Fu Manchu look anymore? I predict that he won't.
I'll stop short on specific casting ideas for now. I think this version should think outside the box for casting, though.
More of the planets of the Mongo empire should be seen. The lion-men (and women :fhm:) should be featured.

I like Flash Gordon, but I think the property is too old fashioned at this point. I think it would be too much like John Carter and Lone Ranger to a degree.

Look, Flash Gordon is alright by me. But who is jonesing to see a Flash Gordon movie?

The Sam Jones movie has a cult following at best for being a bad campy mess. It's beloved for being a "bad" movie.

Now I mean, I love the animated movie Filmation did. It's pretty much perfect. I also love Defenders of the Earth. But Defenders of the Earth was a product for the 80's.

I just don't think you can update Flash Gordon to make it play for audiences today.

*gag* The guy played a dad in a Disney show and they picked him for Ming.

If they just do a live action version of the animated series/movie they'd strike gold.Just don't make the hero a lovable buffoon and it should be more than easy to surpass the 80's film/recent Lone Ranger.

As far as the John Carter comparisons,it's not really a problem.JC was far too dense to get the concept together in one movie.Flash doesn't have those problems. He's just a man (to quote Queen :woot:) caught up in an interplanetary war.He gets the colorful factions together to fight the big bad. It's simple sci-fi, good vs evil with a fair helping of "who's lusting over who?" soap.

Human Torch, I don't think people want that type of sci-fi anymore.

Something that is the tone of Abrams's Star Trek with a bit of John Carter-type action would probably be a way to go.

Anything like John Carter would be the wrong way to go. The movie lost over $200 million.

(sighs) Alright, VileOne, I guess we'll differ, I'm not going to get into this tiresome argument with you about JC's box office outcome. Certainly not in the "Flash Gordon" thread.

I don't think the GA will confuse Flash Gordon with John Carter.:oldrazz: They are two different things entirely.

What I mean by mentioning John Carter is that in both the JC and Flash Gordon concepts there are such "epic" elements like gladiatorial duels, sword-fights, and also, like just as Carter rallies the Tharks to battle against Zodanga, so does Flash unite the other leaders(Hawk-Men, Tree-Men, etc.,) of Mongo against Ming. Stuff like that.

Not at all.I have a problem with race changing characters from the source material.

Not to be too rough with you but it's a concept you'll have to get used to.

As for the john carter comparison, that's inevitable but it can easily improve on that with better actors and an exciting and fun script which john carter didn't really have

Avatar didn't just have Cameron's name, it was watched also by people who ha no idea who he was, the thing with Avatar is that it was something promising a brand new technology in movie making, as well as an experience many weren't used to at that point.

OK well Flash Gordon isn't going to have that more likely than not.

It's a bit of an old fashioned property that I don't think would play very well with audiences today.

I think any reboot would basically be like the sci-fi version of Lone Ranger or the next John Carter.

All the previous attempts at rebooting it have generally been massive failures as well.
