I’m a big fan of The New Gods, especially Mr.Miracle. Honestly this news has gotten me hyped for this and the epicness it could be. Just a few thoughts on casting

Some dream casting there, Gwen Christie would be a great Barda, Lance Reddick almost has the voice for Darkseid - sorry I just can't imagine Darkseid with a Spanish accent, so Bardem wouldnt work for me.

To be honest I feel that the success of any film in which Darkseid is the villain largely depends on a strong casting and appropriate characterization - so he's not just a craggier Thanos. Orson Welles had the perfect voice, but is long gone. Jeff Bridges?

I feel like Orion needs to be an actor with some weight, Tom Hardy would have been perfect - but he's Venom..ah well.

What about Bradley Cooper or maybe as Mr Miracle?

A new gods film could be great, but I think that DC would need to make it fun, and distinguishable from other Space Opera and fantasy films.

I feel like Javier has the presence and a good commanding voice that could be used for Darkseid but in typing this out I was thinking Peter Weller would have a fantastic voice for Darkseid. Maybe I’m remembering his voice wrong but I recall his voice from Robocop, Star Trek , and The Dark Knight Returns being strong and commanding

Now I can't imagine TDKR animated movie without Weller and Emerson, but it would have been so cool to get Keaton and Nicholson there. I'm kinda glad they didn't get Conroy and Hamill.

Is Gwen Christie the only super-tall actress people can think of for Big Barda? Talk about lack of imagination.

Barda needs to have height, but frankly she should also be hot and conventionally sexy. I'm sure plenty of people out there have a thing for Christie, but she's not my idea of sexy. Barda has always seemed basically like Wonder Woman, but maybe 5 inches taller. Diana is a fantasy woman, as is Barda. Christie just isn't attractive enough (apologies to anyone into her that way).

Elizabeth Debecki is perfect. She's almost the same height as Christie (Debecki is 6'2), but she's also damned hot and conventionally sexy. Hire a 5'9 actor as Scott Free and she'll tower over him. Debecki isn't as stocky as Christie (she has more of a lanky model figure), but nothing a protein diet and a few months in the gym couldn't fix. And she's an exceptional actress.

Trust me, whether or not Debicki personally rocks your boat, she's got that model type facial bone structure that will easily allow skilled make-up artists to make people think she's the most beautiful person on the screen. And that's what ultimately matters at the end of the day. Enough people buying into her being this Glamazon Hottie.

Christie looks big and can sell the warrior part, but not even the most talented make-up artists in the world can sell her as some great beauty. At best, she's "handsome".

Kirby's plan for the New Gods when he was at Marvel involved getting rid of the Old Gods (Thor, Loki, Odin). If Marvel did let Kirby have his way and he stayed with them, then I doubt we would have modern day Thor.

If they want a tall actress for Barda, they don't necessarily need to cast Christie or Debicki. They could just use forced perspective for an actress of average height. But just don't do something weird like in Fast and Furious.
