New Interview/Info from Doug Jones 12/20/06

The good thing is that he is a fan himself, which means that if he likes it then really the rest of us should be impressed. We will all get the chance to judge for ourselves very soon... :D

Doug has said - more than once - that the Surfer is the best of visual AND practical FX, and that he is not doing any mo-cap, ref cap or green-screen leotard work on this film.

He is working with both Spectral Motion and WETA as he portrays the Surfer in his entirety, and he is fully interacting with the cast at all times. It is not a muscle suit per se, and believe me, practical FX can be as expensive - if not more so - than CG, and Fox have spared no expense to get the Surfer as right as they can. This is a very special and spectacular design. ;)

Thanks Helllmistress, you said all that I was trying to say but much better!!

Entertainment Weekly's year-end issue is out, with their Top 10 movie picks of 2006.
Pan's Labyrinth came in at #3:"The year's most beautiful production..a supple mix of magical realism and surreal movie-technique magic....As jolting, and as hard to shake off, as any horror epic made entirely of human flesh."

It seems to be up in the air in regards to the voice of the silver surfer. Does anyone have any info on this and does anyone have a preference (would you prefer Doug Jones or someone with a more powerful voice)?

AS far as I'm concerned, Doug should do the voice - he's portrayed The Surfer as an actor should, physically and vocally, and that's the way it should stay in this case. His 'Surfer' voice is great, so let's keep it that way.

The article that brought us the picture did say that Doug would be doing the voice, but Doug has not officially been given the nod on that yet - and the article is inaccurate in saying that the Surfer is motion capture like 'Gollum' in LotR, which he isn't. I don't trust any of these on-line news articles, so I'm biding my time until I get the word from Doug.

I second that Doug should do the voice and it's not just because I'm a fan of his. He can change the pitch of his voice when he needs to and if he can sound like an English robotic butler, than he can certainly do Silver Surfer.
