The Silver Surfer is my fav. super hero and I really dont want him f***ed up for this movie. I remember when i heard that "silver on" i thought this movie was done for. Now I here Abe form Hellboy (which im not a big fan of at all) has the part. I personally know nothing of Doug Jones's career and wanted to see what the fans thought of the casting.

Is Doug Jones a good or bad thing for the Surfer?

Look, if you're gonna launch a thread, be considerate and use a little spellcheck, huh? Read it back to yourself before you hit "submit." That first post is the one everybody else is going to have to read and quote, and it's just good manners to make sure it isn't rife with poor spelling and poorer punctuation. (For example Jones' is the proper possessive, not Jones's.)

I went ahead and voted anyway, but since Doug Jones' casting is not official yet *AND* the subject of his potential casting is being discussed plenty elsewhere on this board, I respectfully suggest that this thread be closed.

First of all, Doug isn't confirmed for the role yet, but that's neither here nor there for the moment.

A potted Dougie history - Doug has spent twenty years in Hollywood carving out a career that spans everything from theatre to commercials to TV guest appearances to top-notch indie films to blockbusters. Half of that time you will see him working under heavy prosthetics, and is regarded in the industry as Da Man you go to if you are casting that kind of role. He is not only a very talented actor in his own right, but he is also a very physical actor, with extraordinary grace and the rare and much sought-after capability of being able to act and emote through heavy prosthetics.

If you weren't keen on HELLBOY, I would recommend you see Guillermo del Toro's PAN'S LABYRINTH when it is released - Doug plays the title role of PAN and also one of the creepiest critters you will ever see on film, THE PALE MAN. He also learned reams of dialogue in archaic Spanish (a language he doesn't speak) and pulled the role off perfectly. The film was highly praised at Cannes this year, and is expected to be in for an Oscar nod for Best Foreign Film. That will give you an idea of just how good Doug Jones is.

Let's say, just hypothetically, that he IS Silver Surfer - he has been reading a lot about the character, and just LOVES the idea of playing him. He promised a 2,000 strong audience at Comic Con that if he 'got his silver suit' he would take very, very good care of it.

So there ya go - another of my uber-plugs, I know, and I know I'm getting boring on the subject, but I'm sure that in Doug you would have an actor who cares about the role deeply and would do the absolute very best he could to do it right.

I second Hellmistress here. If Doug gets the role, he'll take it and wow everyone with his performance. He's been a faun, a fishman, a zombie and a Gentleman (from the episode Hush from Buffy the Vampire Slayer series) and he did them with such talent that you couldn't help but believe these creatures were real. I don't often go see a movie more than once in the theater, but I went and saw Hellboy a second time because of Doug's performance as Abe. So believe me when I tell you that if he gets this role, I truly believe everyone will be amazed by his performance.

Hmmm....somebody must think that Story and Fox are looking at this forum, or there wouldn't be so much hardcore lobbying going on here. You two should be required to register as lobbyist/agents of a foreign national with the Justice Department...or the State Department..or whomever.
:)
My vote on this poll is an unqualified "YES".

:D!!

I wish Story and Fox WERE looking, dagnabbit, then maybe we'd get some movement on this, huh. Hmmm ... maybe after this we should head out to the Middle East and try our persuasive habits over there. Robin Williams once said that if women were in charge of everything, there would be no wars, just intense discussions every 28 days ... :D

I don't know, how much does it pay? We're not lobbiests, just rabid fan girls who just have a hard time being patient when it comes to Dougie and a possible role for him.:D

I don't know how i feel about what? Jones as the Silver Surfer? I guess its a good thing?!.:D

I loved him as Abe Sapien, so I really like the idea of Doug Jones as the Silver Surfer.

Well, I haven't a clue as to who this Doug guy is or why you all like him so much, but I must pay serious respect to the opinions of anyone who appreciates the fine qualities of the feline species. Be advised that there are often outbreaks of highly unwarranted cat bashing from some miscreants within this forum.

Here's Dougie's website: http://www.thedougjonesexperience.com/

And don't worry, I haven't been declawed yet and woe be to the one who tries.:doom:

haha i bet the one person thinks he is an idiot, Doug Jones will ****ing rule as the silver surfer

He's better than casting an A-lister that would detract from the character.

He's kind of a scrawny fellow isnt he?

Is Doug Jones a good or bad thing for the Surfer?

God people don't read:(

The casting of Doug Jones is just horrible, and that just shows what FF2 will be like.
Let´s read between the lines, shall we?

Doug Jones is the new Kevin Peter Hall, meaning that, he is the new resindent monster in town.
For the ones that don´t know, Kevin Peter Hall (who died in 91 from AIDS, from a blood transfusion), was Predator in Predator I and II and Harry in Harry and the Hendersons.
Silver Surfer is a extremely well develped character, so, why bring an actor that just plays monsters and humanoids?

There are just two choises, either they are going to bring someone to be the voice to Jone´s body (like Hellboy), or they are going to turn SS into a 2 dimensional character with little to do.
Either option is just wrong.

Wow, man, you're going to correct his correct grammar with your incorrect grammar? Don't do go around acting like you teach English, because, quite clearly, you don't.

Jones is his last name, and is singular. Therefore, the possesive version would have an 's added to it.

First off, Doug is an excelent actor, imo. Yes, he does mostly rubber suited roles, but he has done roles where he isn't under a ton of makeup, though usually it's in indapendent films. I suggest you go see some of the other films he's been in, with and without the makeup, before you decide that he's not right for the role.

Will they get another actor to do the voice for SS if Doug does get the role? The only one who can currently answer that is Tim Story and we still don't have confirmation one way or the other on SS.

Oh, and for Hellboy 2: The Golden Army, Doug will be doing the voice for Abe this time.

...he's kind of ugly o_O

And that has what to do with the subject? It's not like we're going to see much of his real face, now is it?

All the better for them to be able to shape him into what they want.

PS - I just got back from vacation. Can you tell?

He was fat enough when he was a closer for the Tribe. He'll be able to put the weight on easy enough.

How can anyone vote here until they see the Silver Surfer on screen? I abstain whoever they cast.
