He was fat enough when he was a closer for the Tribe. He'll be able to put the weight on easy enough.

How can anyone vote here until they see the Silver Surfer on screen? I abstain whoever they cast.

I'm going to assume that you're joking and leave it at that.

First off, Doug is an excelent actor, imo. Yes, he does mostly rubber suited roles, but he has done roles where he isn't under a ton of makeup, though usually it's in indapendent films. I suggest you go see some of the other films he's been in, with and without the makeup, before you decide that he's not right for the role.
Look, you missed the point, i´m not bashing his acting abilities, all i´m saying he is, in no way, the man to be given the role of the Silver Surfer.
Do you really think that Doug Jones got the role because Tim Story saw in him the new Johnny Deep?
Do you really think that
WTF was Doug Jones before Hellboy?
And all he did was Abe´s body, and Norrin Radd is not Abe Sapien.

Now, he can really surprised me at the end and making me eat my words, i´m not saying that he isn´t capable of that, but, IMO, he was cast solely for his elegant performance as Abe Sapien, but that isn´t good enough for Norrin Radd.

What if we said Andy Serkis was cast as the Silver Surfer? Would that be "good"?

I hear where you're comin' from, but somehow I don't think that Jones is going to be the voice. He got cast for the WETA work and that's prolly gonna be it.

Right, a few facts here.

Doug Jones is a classically-trained ACTOR. He has been in the business for 21 years, and is DA MAN when it comes to working under prosthetics, but he also works as 'himself' - if you can, check out his performance in CRIMINAL MINDS - 'Blood Hungry.' At the end of his stint on the episode, in which he plays freaked-out meth addict, the cast and crew just stood and applauded - unheard-off for a guest actor on a TV show.

His latest film is PAN'S LABYRINTH, a film widely touted to get an Oscar nod, in which he played 2 roles, both under prosthetics. However, he also had HUGE reams of dialogue, the most in the film, and it was in archaic Spanish - a language he doesn't speak. He carried it off brilliantly. When asked at FrightFest in London a couple of weeks ago about Doug's involvement, director Guillermo del Toro had this to say:

"Doug Jones is unique. No other TOP CLASS ACTOR, including all those so-called A-listers, can so what Doug does, which is give a superb acting performance while also working under reams of complex and heavy prosthetic design. He makes them look and act like inanimate pieces of wood."

He was turning in superb performances in movies long before Alba and Evans were even in the business. They just got lucky.

AND ... I'll say it again. Doug Jones is NOT doing ANY mo-cap, ref-cap or green-screen leotard work in EITHER of his two upcoming projects, which run through until the end of 2007.
