Hey guys, this weekend's edition of Parade magazine features a cover and feature article on Daniel Craig and playing Bond in Casino Royale. Craig goes over a number of things, including his upbringing, approaching James Bond and the criticism he's recieved.

Craig also addresses the contradictory issue of Bond being allowed to kill endless amounts of people but no longer being allowed to light it up so he won't send a "bad message" to young people.

Great article and I suggest you guys take a look see.

Awesome. I hope my magazine store has some copies left. It pains me that the producers didn't allow the James Bond character to smoke in any of his scenes. We all know he does light up a few (;)) in Ian Fleming's novel. I mean, it plays an intricate and progressive part in the book and in the later ones. His craving for smoking cigarettes disintegrates throughout his missions as a Double-O agent. I guess they missed the mark on that one.

There's no link for it.

Look for it at a newstand or in the Sunday paper.

He smokes more than a few cigarettes in the books. At one point it talks about reducing his intake by five to like 20 a day.

The dude was a cigarette fiend.

LOTR didn't have to put up with crap like that. Even though they actually filmed takes with Gandalf chewing on candy because he was trying to "quit smoking."

This reminds me of how Joe Quesada has mandated that Wolverine is now a non-smoker because apparently it sends out a bad image as well.

The guys in charge are so clueless and ******ed sometimes.

Hence, why I put the smiley on.

Did Bond not smoke in the 60's movies?

Fleming always seemed to go through great links to painstakingly describe the quality of Bond's **** and what he carries them in.

Fleming was a smoker himself, and it was probably a leading cause of his early death.

Alright, but the fact of the matter is that Bond isn't exactly the most virtuous fellow. What's wrong with him having some vices like smoking even if they are bad for you?

How about having Bond drink virgin margaritas instead of martinis?

is he gonna have a nicotine patch or something?....lol

Wait, is this directed to me? When I wrote down that "he smokes quite a few," followed by a smiley, I meant that in a sarcastic manner.

After reading my first post, I think I know where the problem lies. When I wrote down, "It pains me that the producers didn't allow the James Bond character to smoke in any of his scenes", I should have wrote this instead, "It pains me that the producers didn't allow the James Bond character to smoke in Casino Royale."

Of course I know Connery's Bond smoked in the '60s. It's evident in the small private casino near the beginning of Dr. No. My apologies for the confusion.

In the CR novel he was smoking like, more than 70cigs. Also didn't Brosnan light up in DAD?

now there is

http://www.24dash.com/showbiz_slapdash/11048.htm

James Bond actor Daniel Craig is not allowed to smoke in the new Bond film.

The new 007 is furious with movie bosses who decided to cut out smoking scenes because they don't want to send the message that smoking is cool to young Bond fans.
Craig told Parade magazine: "I can blow off someone's head at close range and splatter blood, but I can't light a good Cuban cigar."
The news that Bond will not be smoking cigars in the film comes just days after it was announced he may drink lager instead of martinis in the film.
Craig may never utter the immortal lines "Vodka martini - shaken, not stirred" as film bosses have signed a deal with Heineken.
The film is not realised until November but has already been heavily criticised by fans.
Craig is the first blonde Bond and has admitted to being scared of boats, hating guns, sex scenes and martinis and losing two teeth in his first fight scene.
He told Parade: "Maybe I'm not the prettiest Bond that's ever been, and maybe I'm not the most suave.
"All I can say is there are millions of fans, and I don't want to let them down. I've worked my butt off for this movie. I'm not going to foul it up."

Not directed at you. Generally directed at everyone I suppose.

Also, I do recall Brosnan smoking a cigar in Die Another Day.

Keep in mind, that was Pre-Sony.

But still, Bond was terribly addicted to **** and nicotine in the books. So I say, let him light up all he wants! It makes no sense to me to censor something like smoking habits for a guy with "a license to kill".

Gold Samurai, that's not the article. They quote some of it in there. And they didn't even get all the wording right.

Good points there. Man, it would have been so cool to see Daniel Craig smoke at least one cigarette. Straight out of the book. Their loss.

It's not really about coolness for me, it's about staying truthful to the character.

Hell, you can show how smoking is bad for him or whatever, but it doesn't change that he goes through **** like he goes through women.
