Why Craig is so poor as Bond - not a troll post.

What does the novel say about him leaving Solange? You do know we're talking about Solange and not Vesper?

umm yes i realise we are talking about Solange. She is not in the book.

That was just an example of what he's like(in the books because, y'know, that IS the source material). Boning a hot chick when he has to stop a terrorist is not something he would do, end of story.

I'm with you on the Bond front! The Bond character has to be a leading man and believable as Bond - not come across as the high school janitor on parole! Craig is support role caliber only, not a headliner. Storyline was good, and I sat hoping for better things last night in a theatre of 12 people, and left after 40 minutes. Everyone in the theatre was laughing and groaning - he is James Bland not Bond. It was unanimous – Craig can’t act and is the worst Bond ever! We could have saved our money and gone to see “Happy Feet”! It’s a story about dancing Penguin’s and running neck and neck with Bond at the box office. If prior Bonds could be compared to a car it would be an Aston Martin, Craig comes across as a run down Moped! He’s already past his “sell by date”.:wow:

You and DA Havey Dent are talking absolute Bollocks!!! This is, dare i say it my favorite Bond film ever because it felt real. Im not going to say Craig is better then Connery, not after just one film, but is on a par with him and you saying he can't act is total Bull****! This is the Bond i want to see and like the majority of people had become tired of the Superman style heroics surviving explosions and shootouts with barely a scratch on him while straitening his tie in hollowed out Volcanos or Ice Palaces, this Bond hurt, you could feel his pain and emotional torment. I don't see this Bond as the same guy as the Brosnan and the Moore Bond, The Bond we all know was a different guy, he was a Comander on the HMS Ark Royale where he would be Middle to Upper class while Craigs Bond looks like he was recruited from the SAS and looks like he's working class, meaning he proberly does'nt have the same style and coolness as Moore's and Brosnans, but he brings a new kind of coolness and Badassness to the role which was badly needed and as The Englishman it gets two thumbs up from me.:oldrazz:

Fella, Your post gets two thumbs up from this Englishman.

Imo, Bond had become too much of a parody of himself - it started with Eon tailoring the role to play to Moores' strengths as an actor and reached it's zenith with the cartoon that was DAD.

Now CR has gone back to basics, Daniel Craig was immense and will only get better as he makes the role truly his own.

This was the Bond I want to see - an extension of the Bond that Connery gave us but the potential to hit a higher level of realism and really does have an emotional core.

Can't wait for the next one.

I think most of the people who b**ch about this Bond have never picked up a Fleming novel in their life

Meaningless. 90% of Bond fans are those who have come to know and love the character solely via the films. I am one of those. I can't accept Craig in the role due largely to the fact that he goes flatly against the type that I have come to accept in the role, i.e. a handsome, suave superspy that can knock off the bad guys and cavort in the company of high-society types with equal ease. Craig looks horribly out of place in
Bond's world. A troll doll in a tux just doesn't cut it for me.

actually...you've just proven his point.

you can't accept Craig as Bond because all you know about Bond is the cinematic Bond...which, from what i understand, is quite different from the literary Bond.

i've read many reviews on Casino Royale and talked to several Bond fans who've read the novel and the thing that keeps popping up with Casino Royale is that Hollywood has ever gotten to the literary Bond despite Craig not being as pretty as the previous actors.

Thot, have you seen the film?

At no time did I consider Craig to look out of place.

Craig's portrayal was excellent and gives me hope for the future of the franchise.

Too bad you and Dent can't get past your single - minded hatred of his casting and come along for the ride because with the direction Bond is going as evident in CR; us fans are gonna be witness to some great films in the future.

Those who are still whining about Craig needs to go SEE THE FILM instead of *****ing about it. I promise when you see it you'll forget about how Craig looks and you'll be blown away by his performance.

Personally, I got tired of the Bond being a pretty boy. Orlando Bloom, Clive Owen, and Hugh Jackman were up for the part. I am glad they went with someone different, someone who isn't a big star and is virtually an unknown compared to the actors I just mentioned.

If you're still hung up on Craig because of his looks, then I feel pretty bad that just because of someones looks you disrespect him and won't give him a chance.

In the end I received the Bond film that I dreamed of. This is something that needed to be done and this has made me proud to be a fan of Bond.

I am a heterosexual male, but in this picture, I definitely feel Craig is very suave/good looking. But unlike some people I am able to look past his looks and just accept his performance. Because of his acting ability he fully captured what I was looking for.

He had the charm, dry sense of humor, intelligence, and also had the he wasn't going to take any **** from anyone look.

December 8th?!! Dude, that sucks.

I suppose all the good reports on CR and us saying how good it is just makes the wait worse.

Oh well, it's a cliche but it's worth the wait.........trust me.

Hope your stomach gets better. ;)

Yeah, I know it'll be worth it ;)

Nah, the stomach thing was just a joke, but seriosly, this thread = :down x infinity.

I promise when you see it you'll forget about how Craig looks and you'll be blown away by his performance.

No you won't. I thought Craig's performance was pretty good, but he didn't look like Bond.

Well....I have only ONE thing to say about this film...

Best Bond film EVER. :)

Good thread - Craig is totally wrong for the part- he had none of the charecteristics of the charecter and failed to make me care....boring film, boring villians and boring plot. Oh yeah - he's a **** actor too.

I seen Goldeneye more than once in cinemas but other three I seen them once in cinema and the Brosnan's three bond movies didn't make me see them more than once but CR made me see it twice in two days since the opening day in UK.

P.S even tho Brosnan is my favourite Bond, he needed a script like Casino Royale work with.

To be honest, for the 1st time in years, a Bond movie has come out which still has me thinking about it days after i've seen it. It wasn't just 'going through the motions'; sticking to a tried and tested (and flogged to death) formula in order to ensure a safe box office return.

CR isn't just some throwaway, instantly forgettable affair, trying to compete with a Michael Bay action movie.

It actually has substance. And long may that trend continue.

Agreed Superbenitez, im bored with Brosnan as Bond and i could never believe that Roger Moore would last more then two minutes as a spy :woot: . I love the realistic Bond with the realistic villains and the realistic threats and okay i am a big fan of the Borne movies and tv shows like 24 and Spooks (MI5) so im pleased this Bond is in the same vain as those. Dont get me wrong im a big fan of alot of the previous Bond movies as i own my favorie 10 on ultimate DVD:woot: but this is the way i want to see Bond portrayed from now on. Daniel Craigs performance was excellent.

Yeah, i'm a big fan of the post Connery stuff too but I'm definately glad they've decided to give us a bit more adult fare.

Here's a link to a glowing review of the film from the James Bond International Fan Club (have to admit - - I'm a long time member. lol :O )

It certainly hits the nail right on the head with the 1st and last 2 paragraphs:-

All I can say is, I took some friends with me to see this movie and they all loved it. 3 of them could barely stand the old Bond movies because of the formula and plots and thought they were corny, but now all 3 of them love this movie and the new direction of the series. They thought Daniel Craig was excellent in the role. I, even being an old-school Bond fan myself, thought Craig did very good and I can't wait for the next movie. I realize there are some hard core anti-Craig fans out there that will look for anything to dis-prove him to be Bond, but there are many other people I know that will say the same thing about the previous actors as well. Oh well, the series may lose some old fans but they've gained new ones too.

Did anyone consider that the reason this movie was so good is because its a flemming story?

and its down to the writing..if the writing was really bad.. if it was another stand alone movie that was in the same formula of the last 30 odd years of Bond..people wouldn't like craig as much.

I personally think he is brilliant.. able to do action and charm and tenderness in a drop of a hat.. and can also drop a one liner quite well to.

"sorry, that last hand.. nearly killed me."
