There's not much new revealed that we haven't heard already. I did find this bit interesting though...

“[The Japan connection] is still something we really want to do,” admitted the actor-producer. “What we need to do is establish who he is and find out how he became Wolverine. And by the end of the movie, I want it to be that you definitely knew who this guy was, like Mad Max and Dirty Harry. He’s a good guy, but he’s not a nice guy. He’s just the guy you want on your side.” Sources also mentioned scenes featuring Wolverine in Vietnam, a pre-X-Men love interest for the furry mutant and character names familiar to comic fans such as the teleporter John Wraith, who served with Wolverine on special ops missions as part of Team X, along with Fred J. Dukes (aka the Blob)

The Japan connection sounds nice, but I still wish they would drop the Blob, especially now that it sounds like he and Wolverine serve together.

All seems interesting and could be a good movie, but Fox will undoubtedly meddle with it.

I like the sound of the Vietnam part.

The script review mentioned nothing about the Japan connection... Hugh is just trying to make us keep an open mind... the script sticks with only movie elements and does not really go outside the box... its a true shame... but it should still be a decent flick.

I'm not impressed that Benioff is the BIGGEST Wolverine fan evah. Penn and Kinberg were credited with being the biggest X-Men fans evah and look at that result. :oldrazz:

I figure we'll get a lot of BS tossed at us to promote this film, just like they did for X3 because they'll aim for another big front-loader.

I love Hugh, but even I have my limits of what I'll sit through just to watch him.

I gotta say so far I just don't give a crap about a solo Wolverine movie. During the time of Xmen 2 I would've thought differently. If they can have an interesting supporting cast it could be cool I guess. I always thought in the comics that Wolverines interactions with the other X-men made him interesting. He's been over used as a solo character. I know theres talk of having th Blob(??) and Sabertooth (Sabertooth in X1 was too tamed down and looked kinda lame) SIGH not interested really esp. after the complete disaster that was x-men 3

in a perfect world the studio would've waited and let Singer do X3 . which means he would never have gone to do the dreadful Superman Returns! Singer does a great Dark Pheonix story. somewhere in there Wolverine meets Mariko Yoshida. x3 ends and turns out to be better than x2. wolverine leaves xaviers after recieving a lettr from mariko and goes to japan. singer then goes on to make the wolverine movie adapting claremont and millers 1982 mini series! but even heavier on the action. with a crazy ass sabertooth like in the comics worked in, silver samuri ,gordon lui as marikos dad, lucy lui , sandra oh, go-go from kill bill, ninjas/ it would've kicked ass. Singers rep still intact.

:ninja: WHOA... ninjas! Bring on the ninjas! :ninja: That story sounds great! I would have loved that movie! Course I did like X3 anyway. Though they sure have tamed Wolverine down.... *sigh* I'm looking forward to the Wolverine movie not only because of Jackman, but I'm interested in seeing what they do with the whole Jason Howlett/Logan/Wolverine story. I know they will most likely stray from the origional story/bio of Wolverine. But I'm a sucker for punishment....

BS will always be tossed at us. Whether we fall for it is an entirely different story. :oldrazz:

This is from a Benioff interview from 2004, a little encouraging:

DRE: I read that you pitched 20th Century Fox for you to write the Wolverine movie, then you got it and you also pitched Warner Bros on Troy. You must be pretty good at it.

DB: Well with Wolverine it was easier because Troy was already being done. For Troy it was a leap of faith because I had only done a $12 million Spike Lee movie. With Wolverine the story is already there so the people at Fox and Marvel know everything about Wolverine. That meeting was just showing them how passionate I was about this character. I’ve been reading Wolverine comics for 23 years.

DRE: What was the first Wolverine comic you ever read?

DB: I think it was the issue of X-Men that a friend lent to me when I was 12. I believe it was a really early issue of X-Men that Chris Claremont wrote.

DRE: Can you talk about what the story of the Wolverine movie will be?

DB: I’m not allowed to talk about it. Fox is pretty careful about that. It’s not even totally finalized what story we are doing. What I can say is that in the X-Men movies we’ve seen a lot of the sweet Wolverine so I think it’s time to mess him up a little bit because all the fans know that he’s the best there is at what he does but what he does isn’t very nice. Also getting to write “Snikt” in a comic book is the coolest thing.

DRE: Did Bryan Singer leaving change your timetable at all?

DB: He had already left before I came on. But I did get to meet Hugh Jackman the other day which was pretty cool.

DRE: Any Japanese stuff going into the Wolverine movie?

DB: [laughs] I can’t talk about it. Nice try though.

For what it’s worth that’s definitely the best Wolverine saga, the whole Lady Mariko and The Hand storyline. I went back and reread the Chris Claremont and Frank Miller miniseries and the Barry Windsor Smith Weapon X.

DRE: Have you been catching up on recent Wolverine comics to prepare?

DB: Yeah I hadn’t read any of the recent stuff so I’ve been catching up with the Grant Morrison X-Men comics and some of the new Greg Rucka stuff. One of the coolest things about this job is that I can call up Marvel and say send me whatever X-Men and Wolverine I want. It makes my 12 year old self so happy.

Is it too hard to just wait for the finished product before judging it? Call me crazy, but I prefer to expect the best from people, not the worse.
I'm anxious for "Wolverine", because it's a project involving my favorite actor and my favorite comic character. There's a chance I can be disappointed, yes, but I'll just wait and see.

And the idea that a studio might exaggerate/embellish/downright lie to us trying to prove how phenomenal a movie is before it's release is probably the least shocking thing I've heard in years....

I'm definitely looking forward to it. If it stinks, hey...I've still got Indiana Jones to look forward to. :cwink:

I don't believe this film will ever be made. However, if it is made I want to see them explore the Weapon X days. Whenever I read the comics I always wanted to see the story of Weapon X as a gritty, violent, and realistic view on the program itself.

I don't know why but it was very interesting for me as a kid. I wanted to see his past with Sabretooth, Maverick, Silver Fox, and so forth. The thing is Wolverine has a lot of material to choose from, which makes it very difficult to adapt his story into a live action format especially since it's a solo film.

Wolverine in my opinion is an R rated story and the film itself should be either a very hard PG-13 film or a full on R rated film. That's the only way to really depict his story in a faithful fashion. The Vietnam angle sounds very different and that would be a pretty cool look on his past too.

I keep hearing conflicting reports on the quality of the script. Maybe there're more than one being reviewed??
