New Superman Game?

Right, YOU own a 360. Not everyone else does. There are other people that have a PS3, ya know. Wouldn't it be fair to let EVERYONE discuss the game across the different platforms? This belongs in the Multiplatform section.

Could I just point out that Superman Returns was only released for the 'Next Gen' consoles on Xbox 360, not PS3.

Does anyone still have that test footage of the cancelled Superman game? If so can you post a link? Please....

You are right. My mistake. Although it was released on PS2, Nintendo DS and Gameboy Advance.

it is pretty shameful that they can't make a decent Superman game, especially with this gen's console powers.............there should be no excuse.

There sure was potential in that unreleased game a few posts above. I'm sure that there will be a tie-in game with the movie release next year. I'm sure, like most movie tie-ins, it will probably suck. But hey, at least it will look good! :oldrazz:

lol......that's true!

in fact, I think about the only movie tie-in game that DIDN'T suck was Spider-Man 2.

That Factor 5 game always makes me sad.... At least they were trying for badass. Supes dragging that dude through the office was a better looking sequence than most games i've ever seen, period. Rivaled Uncharted in concept.

tech demos are always impressive....it was a short sequence with ZERO indication of what the larger game might have been

still......it's a shame that Superman game was cancelled.

it would be great if a studio like Rocksteady came along and did with Superman what Rocksteady did with Batman.

Well I'm pretty sure rocksteady worked in secrecy with no one knowing about Batman AA. So maybe there's a studio out there doing the same for supes.

I think the problem that developers run into with Superman is exactly how do you craft a game around a superhero that's virtually unstoppable. He's not just strong, he's superstrong, not just fast, superfast, how can you incorporate that into a game and still offer enemies that prove to be challenging? How could you make Superman move about the city in his normal fashion and still be able to keep up with your surroundings? I want Superman to move like Superman in flight and not move similar to an aircraft, that takes away from is character and doesn't give the player the sense of speed and finesse that Supes has during flight.

Rocksteady was able to nail Batman, this may be due to the fact that although Batman is at peak physical condition, he still has his limits and can be killed. Superman on the other hand is practically invincible, unless kryptonite is involved, and even with that you can't just have random thugs on the streets packing firearms loaded with kryptonite ammunition, that would be doing too much. The Factor 5 Superman game that got cancelled looked to be a step in the right direction, but all we saw or atleast all I saw was practically quick time events, no other type of gameplay.

Well, on that unstoppable bit. The Superman Returns game did do something interesting{even though that game sucked} where your health bar was for the city itself and not Superman. I wouuldn't mind seeing something like that again{done better of course}.

They could go that route again, and possibly have street crimes that can help boost the overall health or moral of Metropolis if you successfully foil the crime.

I would love to see the team from Batman: Arkham Asylum and City move on to Superman after the second Batman game.

with all the delays in DC MMORPG, would a superman standalone game even be prioritized? Hmm... I'd like to see something that allowed the Superman Family to team up like Ultimate Alliance. Superman, Superboy, Supergirl, Steel, Power Girl..

Why not just make a Superman game with no limits to his powers? That would be a challenge for developers. No more health meters or power bars, and no holding back.

Or make a Superman game which takes place after his death to Doomsday and now Superman has to gain his strength again. So each new battle restores a fraction of his once great power.

I'm sure that most of you have probably seen or heard about this already, but it appears as though the guys that made Arkham Asylum/City are toying with making a Superman game. How AWESOME would that be? If any superhero deserves a fantastic game, it's Superman....The head writer (Paul Dini) for the both Arkham games had this to say...
Well Batman is pretty much real world-centric. So if I was going to do another comic book based game I would probably want a hero that had, you know - I would probably want to amp it up a bit as far as the power level goes and do more of a superhero with more superpowers.
Batman is pretty much a self-trained guy, I think it would be fun to do a character like Superman or Captain Marvel or maybe Green Lantern, somebody who's got a completely different resource for fighting crime and fighting villains.

Maybe a magical character. The DC universe is filled with them. I love Batman and I always will but if I was going to do another one I would probably pick one in a completely different setting with a completely different power scheme. He's [Superman] pretty much the number one in the DC pantheon, and I think not enough has been done with him to make him a character, as he's got amazing powers, he can fly super fast and everything, but also there's a level to his character that I don't think has been explored yet in video games to kind of get underneath who he is and into his heart a little bit.

I think there's a lot of reinvention being done on Superman at the moment, both in the comics and in the movies and I think it would be fun to revisit that character and kind of see what makes him tick.

In Superman Returns instead of Superman having the Health Bar, it was the city, so he was indestructible but the city couldn't be destroyed.

I Already had 2 ideas for a superman game, one would be called Smallville and have Clark growing up, solving mysteries, using his powers and exploring Smallville in the same way we usually do the GTA games.

The other idea i had while watching a Prototype gameplay video, where Superman's powers would be the ones from the golden age, Superstrenght, speed, the power to jump very high and still be able to be hurt.

Gotham Knight was being highly sarcastic guys.

Anyways, I don't really think the AA style gameplay suits a Superman game. Now if they took the same care and time with the game as Arkham Asylum that would be great.

As far as gameplay I wish it could be like Zone of the Enders... but really I just want another ZOE game!

I'm getting annoyed with people who keep stating they want a "<insert hero>" game like Arkham Asylum. If they mean in terms of care and what's relevant to that hero.. sure... but if they mean by style.. no. No Superman game should have him confined to any area and if they do proceed to make a game that does so, it will immediately suck.

I was REALLY excited about Superman Returns. The free roam/flying idea was great. The rest simply wasn't. Metropolis was ridiculous in so many ways. You'd think we were on Krypton instead of Earth. It should at least resemble a real city you'd visit on Earth. The execution of the game simply didn't work over all.

Superman needs to be free roam. No ifs/ands/buts.

That is exactly what I mean in terms of creating a Superman game in the style that they did with Arkham Asylum/City. I wouldn't want Supes to be confined either. I mean in the way they tell a story, graphically, controls, free-roam, etc. Everything that makes the Arkham games so incredible, minus the confinement of course. :yay:

I'll just re-post what I wrote in another Superman Thread.

In the Arkham Thread, some people said it would be kinda difficult to really do a good Superman game with all the abilities he possesses and I wonder why? I mean, there are several good to great games that have you play as a powerful being. So it's only logical that the same could be done with Superman as the main character.

When you do a Superman game, I think it should be clear from the start that you don't want to make another Arkham Asylum/City. In quality, yes, but the formula needs to be completely different. It needs to be clear that you are practically playing a god. So yes, while he does do petty stuff like stop bank robberies, that shouldn't be the focus at all of the game. Scratch random crimes immediately. Not even Batman had to deal with the stuff in Arkham Asylum. And it seems like he won't bother with that in Arkham City either, since the whole place is already filled with criminals.

The adventure should take place all over the globe. We need great locations that allow for collateral damage. Quicktime sequences like in God of War and amazing cutscenes like in Uncharted. The game must simply feel epic all around. It needs to be an entirely different beast and shouldn't be anything like the Batman games.

I'm not so sure I agree with scratching random crimes. Perhaps you mean in the way they have been done in most super hero games, but the people and events you encounter in Red Dead Redemption is an aspect of the game that makes it as good as it is. The world felt alive and unpredictable, because it was. In Spiderman 2, the random crimes (purple markers) had the right idea, wrong execution.

Random crimes should be colorful and interesting. They don't need to be cookie cutter and they can involve super villians. Anything that spices up those scenic flights to break up the monotony. Though the scenery should be eye catching and engaging.
