News flash!

Well, it was Jerry Siegel's doing and these are his characters.

That is correct and he is entitled to do with his creations what he pleases. However, to me, I feel that Siegel crammed in Luthor's origin story into Adventure Comics just so Superboy could face Luthor and the manner in which he did it just feels contrived and forced. I don't like the suicide slum origin much either so I would prefer if Lex didn't really have an origin in this movie and have him be the Mogul/mad scientist (can't decide which version I would prefer or maybe a mix of both) from his introduction. He doesn't really need an origin story imo.

^^^ and Donald Glover campaigned to be the new Spider-man. Obviously, did not happen.

It was indeed. However the whole idea that Lex was a villain from superman's past just feels a bit forced to me.

Could just not make him a villain, but just some kid (maybe a punk/snot nosed) that Clark encountered once before.

Random question: Which Superman villains did Siegel/Shuster create besides Lex?

Ultra-Humanite, Toyman, the Archer, Mxy, Puzzler, Metalo (original version). Siegel himself created more characters since he had his second run at DC in the 60's. He created Kryptonite Man and a bunch of Legion heroes and villains.

As for his origin for Lex, what I like is that it shows that Lex was once a decent person, and it makes him a fallen friend of Superman. Superman just wants Lex to reform and use his great gifts for good-gifts that are just as amazing in their own way as Superman's. It once again plays into the fact that the most super thing about Superman is his ethics, and those came from Earth. And we can all strive for them even if flying and super-strength is all fantasy.

Not really when the whole thing was a joke.

When it gets so big that you have Stan Lee in your corner, it is no longer a joke. Either way, the point I was making was in agreement with the OP who said that campaigning for roles doesn't mean squat and now expounding on it to include fans.

i personally think studios see it as pathetic personally get an agent and audition like a normal person

I doubt that until Lohan cleans up her image she will never have another Hollywood role again. She can't get insured and isn't she expected to go to jail soon?

Agree 100% on everything apart from the bolded. I suppose its a matter of taste but I like the idea that Luthor could be a good guy and save the world and maybe even be a friend of superman but is far too selfish and wrapped up in his petty feud with superman and his obsession to prove himself the better man. I personally don't think that Lex needs an actual physical event to make him hate superman (superboy makes his hair fall out, ruins his experiment and makes him look like an idiot frequently etc). I'd prefer his hatred of superman to be produced from how superman makes him feel about himself and makes him feel inadequate.

I prefer Superman and Lex not knowing each other during the Smallville years. Superman hoping for redemption for Lex makes him seem a little biased towards his former friend. Superman hoping for redemption for Lex despite all the horrible things he's done and having no personal connection, I think that says something deeper.

I agree, that an inadequate-feeling Lex is far more intriguing.

Well, it was a joke for him and that's all that really matters. He didn't actively campaign for it. Someone made a manip of him, he saw it, and pretty much went, "That'd be cool" and left it at that. What people did with it, that's on them.

Anyhow, one could say some of those who were actually associated with this film had their own semi-fan campaigns like Cavill, Manganiello, and Bomer.

I agree and would say considering the state of the Superman franchise currently, once people knew Singer wasn't going to get another shot, this particular movie has garnished some of the larger fan campaigns for more people than any recent comic flick. Almost like how BB fans did over the Joker, only this is for five or six different characters.

I'm hoping today we get another Super Sunday Casting Extravaganza.

Yep.

Well, if you read the stories, then you can clearly see that even before anything happened with Superboy, Luthor's arrogance and envy were leading him down a bad road. But when Superboy appeared and Lex paled in comparison, the deal was sealed.

If there is no past friendship between Lex and Superman then the idea of Lex being redeemable is less appealing. When Luthor has had no connection with Superman-which was basically the Golden Age Luthor and Byrne's bland Kingpin clone-then Luthor himself has usually been much more malevolent and evil, and redemption doesn't really work for those versions.

superman red son luthor is my favorite depiction of the character

How so? In the end, while his ego is in the way, Lex has a massive hard-on for being humanity's savior instead of Superman. There is room for redemption within him, even if he wasn't Superboy's childhood friend. But I think it says more about Superman's ethics that even though he has no reason to, he still hopes that Lex will eventually see the error of his ways.

Having Lex be Superman's childhood friend makes Superman come off as biased the way certain interpretations of Batman makes him go lenient towards Harvey Dent and Talia al Ghul because of his feelings towards them, despite the fact that they are complete psychopaths with no hope of a bright future for either of them. I think that Superman should wish for the redemption of everyone, regardless, he shouldn't be naive like a child, but he should still see the best in humanity.

Of course this really comes down to how one prefers to see Lex Luthor. Personally, I really like the way how the modern comics have Lex being a blend of scientist extraordinaire and corporate mogul with feelings of inadequacy towards Superman and large amounts of xenophobia. But with so many interpretations of the character, there really is no wrong one to pick.

It's from CBM, so take it as you will :)

- Lindsay Lohan never audtioned for any role with Superman.
- Adam Harris audtioned and has two callbacks with readings with Henry Cavill and Amy Adams.
- Adam has started a physical training program for a more demanding physical Lex Luthor.
- Scripts are being held very tightly. rumored: there are two different versions floating around, there will be a lot of fight scenes toward the end.
- There will be "employee hiring" job fairs for LexCorp in Chicago in the summer.
- A major factory plant in chicago will be playing host to LexCorp industries.

Ok...let me do a line by line..

- Lindsay Lohan never audtioned for any role with Superman.

I guess someone at CBM has a hard-on for Lindsay Lohan; she never auditioned and was never considered.

- Adam Harris audtioned and has two callbacks with readings with Henry Cavill and Amy Adams.

Adam Harris last audition was probably for a high school play.
He has received no callbacks and the closest he will get to reading with Cavill and Adams, is by talking out loud to a computer screen playing a youtube video of Cavill and Adams.

- Adam has started a physical training program for a more demanding physical Lex Luthor.

Physical training will not suffice. He has a Russian mobster look to him and would likely fare better as an extra on a future Van Damme or Segal release.

- Scripts are being held very tightly. rumored: there are two different versions floating around, there will be a lot of fight scenes toward the end.

I'm so happy WB decided to share this with the geniuses at CBM. I had previously thought that all the fight scenes were going to be at the start of the movie, just like in all other superhero flicks...

- There will be "employee hiring" job fairs for LexCorp in Chicago in the summer.

Probably on DC Universe online.

- A major factory plant in chicago will be playing host to LexCorp industries.

I'm sure they will play host to the Daily Planet as well.

**************.com is the flakiest site on the web; It is not surprising that they "broke" the Adam Harris story.
They are the worst of the worst!
