Next Big Cosmic Event:The Thanos Imperative

Damn, you edited too fast for the edit link to appear. Now I'll never be able to see what ill-conceived nonsense you blurted out before realizing it was inappropriate. :csad:

I posted in here what I meant to post to you in the Fable III thread.

Yeah, it was a cool moment. Plenty of ways for them to come back from it, too. Nova's got the full Nova Force and Star-Lord's got a bloody Cosmic Cube.

I was slightly disappointed in how Thanos got stabbed, Death appears and just kills off the entire cancerverse then disappears again.

Sooooooo DEM, but it still worked cause you know Thanos was planning that all along.

If it "works," then it's not really a deus ex machina.

It isn't like Death as an abstract hadn't been mentioned at all in the entire mini and wasn't a big plot point or linked to Thanos.

Wait, no, nevermind, I think I've had this conversation before. Nope. Not happening again. That's all, folks.

-sigh-

The Cosmic Universe is a dangerous place to live these days. So many people are ''gone" or altogether dead now.

They'll all be back sooner or later, though. Well, except Phyla. No one likes her enough to bring her back. :o

Just cause it works doesn't mean it's not a DEM. A player who wasn't in the event at all appears last minute and destroys all threats the event was about. That's a DEM. Doesn't matter how you cut it, they were literally at a point of no return where the entire existence was about to be overrun by the Cancerverse, then boom, Death appears and stops all of it instantly.

That's the very definition of DEM.

Death was in the event the whole time. Not as a physical being, but the whole event was about death vs. life. The fact that she incarnated at the end and "fixed" the Cancerverse's imbalance by destroying it pretty much grew right out of the event's central theme. I wouldn't really call it a deus ex machina.

Oh, I was just thinking about the people on the final pages of this week's issue. I don't expect to see Vulcan again anytime soon. Or ever.

No, I get that Death was there the entire team. It was all about how they took out death and now wanted to do the same in our universe etc etc etc.

That still doesn't change the fact that at the very end when all hope seemed lost death appears and is like "lol, nope, not gonna happen" and ends the entire conflict right then and there by destroying the entire cancerverse.

Which, is a DEM in every way shape or form conceivable.

I have dragged you into uppity philosophical discussion.

Yes! Corruption! :woot:

I know, and I'll hate you forever for it. Not that I didn't already hate you forever before, but still. :argh:

But part of being a deus ex machina is coming literally out of nowhere. Death didn't come out of nowhere. The whole mini-series built up to this last-ditch gambit with Thanos goading Mar-Vell into killing him in the Cancerverse, which was the avenue by which Death was able to incarnate and fulfill her function.

Has Nova's book been canceled? If not, he's probably going to be back.

It and GotG are officially on hiatus indefinitely. So, canceled in all but name.

I'd switch Phyla for Vulcan. I'd rather he be the one that never comes back.

While the galaxy's portents don't exactly favor his return, I have to say DnA salvaged a decent villain out of just another "Omega-Level!!!!" mutant threat with issues.

Giving him this Caligula-shtick worked and matching him up against Black Bolt was pretty good use of both characters. I wouldn't mind seeing Vulcan as Black Bolt's primary enemy now rather than the X-Men.

DnA made Vulcan bearable, but I certainly haven't missed him since he died.
