The Dark Knight Rises Nicolas Cage ‘Would Love To Play A Supervillain’ In ‘Batman 3’

Cage has well and truly passed his use by date, the only stop left for him is direct to DVD, and he's well on his way to it.

I wouldn't say that. You don't suddenly lose the ability to act. He has just been in some crap films recently.

But apparently he is pretty good in "Knowing".

What's with the Cage hate? He is a great actor. Sure his last few films have been absolute dog **** and he hasn't really put that much effort in. But his last few roles haven't really required much effort.

Anyone who says he is a crap actor doesn't have a clue about acting or hasn't seen his best films and performances. Just watch Raising Arizona, Leaving Las Vegas, Matchstick Men, Adaption and even Lord of War was pretty decent. They are just off the top of my head.

I bet most of the people hating on him haven't seen his best roles. It's like me saying Bob De Niro is a mediocre actor after only seeing Rocky and Bullwinkle and those crap Meet the Parents films.

You give Nic Cage a role he can really immerse himself into, really get his teeth into, and he would be brilliant. Guaranteed.

Notice that most of his best roles are edgy, erratic sometimes eccentric characters. I think he could be a pretty good Riddler.

Somebody agrees with me.

Yea well Riddler is the only Bat villain i could see him as. He has that kooky, quirky thing going on.

As long as he stays at a low-key quirky, and completely avoids the Elvis voice, he'd be great. I honestly can't say that any of the movies he's in (that I've seen) are bad, some aren't good, but they're still watchable and entertaining.

First Nic Cage= FAIL he has been in 1 or 2 good movies

Second Its really annoying how actors/actresses show interest in the next Batman movie after TDK was hugely successful. Hats off to Robin Williams, Steve Carell, Josh Lucas and others who expressed interest in TDK b4 it became a smash

What 1 or 2 movies are they then Blackman? Or is it that you have only seen 1 or 2 good movies with Cage?

You do lose the ability to care though.

You do lose the ability to care though.

Yea I suppose so. But then that's why you cherish a role that can bring the best out of you. If he is given something that he can really get his teeth into I think he could excel.

I'm really skeptical about this. He seemed fine acting Ghost Rider which imo was just awful outside the biblical references. :/ Its like the Deadpool being cool with his character being completely different than the comic counterpart. :/

Oh well i atleast am happy that Nolan _does_ force people to read Batman comics to practice for the role.

I like Cage. Didn't realize so many disliked his acting. He was also in a great film called The Weather Man with Sir Caine. He could pull The Riddler off better than most I'd argue.

After Face Off I say he would have been a good Two Face... back in the day. Now... I don't know... don't think there is a major villain that he'd do justice to.

LOL @ people complaining about Nick Cage's acting. Guy won an Oscar for Best Actor. He can give great performances especially with the right scripts and direction. Not only do I think he would make a good villain, I think he would give a tour de force performance under Nolan's direction.

wtf dude?

I wouldn't call him lackluster, more that he's become...lazy and comfortable recently.
lack⋅lus⋅ter

tər/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [lak-luhs-ter] Show IPA –adjective 1. lacking brilliance or radiance; dull: lackluster eyes. 2. lacking liveliness, vitality, spirit, or enthusiasm: a lackluster performance.

Does this somehow contradict his performances for the past 5 or so years?

Matchstick Men, Leaving Las Vegas, Adaption, these are not lackluster. Sure he has a certain type but then so does Christian Bale. he's a better actor than Bale that's fer sure.
Yeeeaaaahhh, gonna have to complete disagree on that, bud. Bale's been slacking in my eyes too, but his best roles are better than Cage's best for me.

What's with the Cage hate? He is a great actor. Sure his last few films have been absolute dog **** and he hasn't really put that much effort in. But his last few roles haven't really required much effort.
Depth of character is one thing, that's pretty much up to the script. But screen presence and personality are up to the actor. And Cage. Is. Boring.

I don't know how to make that any clearer. There isn't one actor in Hollywood right now whose performances are as mellow and uninspired as his, for the last few years.

Anyone who says he is a crap actor doesn't have a clue about acting or hasn't seen his best films and performances. Just watch Raising Arizona, Leaving Las Vegas, Matchstick Men, Adaption and even Lord of War was pretty decent. They are just off the top of my head.

Yes Ace, that analogy is exactly the one I made. I should charge royalty fees considering the amount of times I've seen you use it. :o

In any case, Cage is lackluster now. Unless I can see him prove otherwise, then I will continue to call him so. Past roles don't mean crap when it means he's up for future ones. I'm going to go by his current work.

Actually, the Rocky and Bullwinkle and Meet the Parents one is mine, yours was Stardust and Meet the Parents :hehe:

But yes i do understand what you are coming from. But it depends on the material he is given, the character he is playing, all sorts of different things.

A comic book fan such as Cage would absolutely relish playing a villain in a comic book film, particularly the follow up to TDK. I would imagine it would be like a new lease of life. You can't deny that when given the material to work with, he is a great actor.

It's not like he would be offered the part to Bangkok Dangerous 2 or National Treasure 3. It would be a villain in the new Batman movie. A actor of his quality should be able to bring his A-Game to that sorta role no matter how many years he has been in crap.

Haha, can't believe you remembered. Thought I could get away with it.. :hehe:

He's had a shot with the genre. He starred in one. MSJ and Cage are undeniable huge comic book geeks, but passion is not enough to carry a film. That was evident in the horrid directing, and yet again, lackluster performance.

If Nolan were to cast him, I wouldn't be worried about technical skill. I'd be more concerned with acting presence and celebrity recognition. I'm usually against A-list casting, but I'd be willing to accept exceptions in which said actor is just too perfect for a role. Cage doesn't strike me as that type.

Well yea I'm not saying I want him in it. He probably isn't even in my top 10 choices for the next villain. I just don't think he should be written off so easily as some people have.

If you make yourself known like this... I have a feeling Nolan will shy away from you in terms of casting.

It seems Nolan hates to cast predictably. Otherwise he would have cast Crispin Glover as the Joker right away.

If theres anyone who might play a villain it could be Decaprio if he becomes good friends with Nolan in their next movie. =P Black Mask ftw! <:D

And casting Nic Cage as the new villain in the follow up to TDK is predictable how?

I hope not, he can't act and most movies are crap.

Calm down guys, he'll never make it into a Batman Movie! Unless Joel Schumacher or Uwe Boll are in charge!:oldrazz:

I don't have a problem with Cage, but he isn't such a good actor, although some of his movies are enjoyable. But I doubt he can pull off a sophisticated villain or anything and I'm almost sure they won't make the mistake to Cast him in the 3rd Batman Movie.
