Nine Eleven

I was out of the office all day yesterday, and then I was out at night.

9/11 was an atrocity. It was horrible. It blew my mind when it happened. The scale of the attacks, combined with the very simple methods that were used to carry them out, really stunned me. It makes me sad and angry to this day, just to think of it.

That being said...we Americans, on the whole, seem to have a very short "collective memory" if you will. Include with that a very short attention span, and a depressing lack of intellectual curiosity. On top of all of that, we're way too proud of the simple fact that we are Americans. I think it's a bad combination!

My belief is that if you care about the suffering of people in one part of the world, why not also care about the suffering of all people? I mourn for the victims of atrocities on my home soil, as well as victims elsewhere. It's good to recognize and remember this event, but it's unfortunate that there's relatively so little interest in other mass atrocities that have happened in recent history.
