I always forget how amusing and entertaining this movie is till I re-watch it. Sure, it's nowhere near as good as the original. However, it is very funny. The three TMNT movies did a great job of capturing the relationship between the Turtles and this one definitely put the most humorous spin on it. I also like how Splinter makes them do sommersaults everytime they misbehave. Shredder is also very amusing in this one. He's much closer to the `87 toon here. All he does is get upset and complain when others screw up. lol. But, of course, the two most hilarious aspects of the movie are Ernie Reyes, Jr. and Vanilla Ice. Seriously, what were they thinking?!

This movie is full of fail and win. It's a paradox that threatens our entire universe.

Seriously though, this movie sucked. The characters looked more stylized, less like the original, the enemies were cartoonish, Shredder was on 'roids, it was a different April O'Neal, and if my memory serves me right, no Casey Jones.

I can't get over him in his role in Red Sonya where he played the little Emperor. That was probably my favorite film of his, next to the Rundown.

Alot is much closer to the '87 toon to be perfectly honest.

The turtles slacking up on using their weapons is just another example. :yay:

There's no one to blame but the parents of America for the second movie being so soft, all because many of them complained that the first movie was "too dark" for kids and had too much violence and profanity.

I think of the first movie as an adaptation of the comics, and the 2nd an adaptation of the toon.
If they managed to get Bebop and Rocksteady instead, it would've been 5 times better.
Also, Krang.

Hey it's Raph.

Yeah, a little too Raph.

The 1990 movie was a combination of the comics and `87 cartoon. They took the best that each had to offer.

the 2nd an adaptation of the toon.

Not really. The `87 toon was very sci-fi with Krang, the technodrome, and Dimension X. This movie is basically a light-hearted version of the first movie.

but it took the tone of the cartoon.

Too bad Raph isn't the Rob Paulson version; the Chandler Bean/Deadpool of the group.

I believe there's a segment of the behind the making of TMNT II video where the producers say they got complaints about the first movie so they decided to limit them to hand to hand fighting and lighten the mood of the movie. I have no problems with parents trying to protect their kids but don't screw things up for everyone else, honestly in a title like Teenage Mutant NINJA Turtles what did they expect kittens, rainbows and horses with big bright eye little turtles riding them?

It's like with video games parents are shocked there's violence in Mortal Kombat or players can carjack people in Grand Theft Auto.

How is this "everybody else" who got screwed over? I don't think many adults where die hard turtle fans back then.

You have to remember, the popularity of the cartoon, as evidenced in their use of the title graphic from the cartoon and the individually colored bandanas for the turtles (right down to the TM symbol off to the side, no less!), was a big factor in the live-action version even getting made. It was great that they did try to balance the grittiness of the comic with the lighthearted feel of the cartoon, but this was meant to be a movie primarily for the kids. It's understandable if parents took their kids to this and were a bit unnerved by such scenes as April getting mugged (right at the beginning of the film, no less!), Splinter being strung up in shackles and beaten, and Rapheal being beaten so severely, he was pretty much in a coma for two days.

Granted I was a kid back then but I've always thought the second one was waterdown compare to the first one. And I'm just saying if parents want to protect their kids from things they view is unsuitable then they should keep their kids from that and not effect everyone else who may not be as easily offended.

Well, I agree. I saw the first in the theater. My parents where not over protective. Honestly, I don't remember feeling the second was watered down. It was still a great movie in my eyes.

This one sucked so bad it was unbearable to watch. Now the first one was pure greatness. I think if they reboot the movie franchise they should go back to the dark and grittiness of the first film. But the first movie was not just good cause of it being dark, it was awesome fight scenes, Shredder was more of a badass, and the atmosphere of the movie was cool.

The first TMNT is superb. Really. Watch it again. Amazing that it is so good, and that it has genuine heart to it. It has a realistic, urban look and feel that so many comicbook movies would do well do imitate.

I don't know if I'm the only person who knows this, but I certainly have never found anything about this on the net: there are TWO versions of the first movie, the UK version and the US version. The UK one takes out a lot of violence, but adds some things as well and lenghtens other scenes.

Didn't the US version recently make its way to the UK?

I guess I'm alone...... I loved this one and proudly own it :o
