Ninja Turtles II: Secret of the Ooze

I enjoyed this as a kid, but the last time I watched it a few years ago, I barely made it through. It's just too juvenile for my liking, and about the only thing I like about it are Rahzar and Tokka. It has been a good while since I last watched it though, so maybe a rewatch is in order to determine my final opinion, but my initial one is pretty final if not close to it. I always loved the original TMNT movie, though.

^ like others have said the movie was too childish with the turtles behaving more like 12-13 year olds rather than 16-17 year old standard teenagers.

Vanilla Ice was probably not a good thing if he was trying to maintain his hard core rep, one thing I can say was good was the replacing of the actress for April O'Neil.

Paige Turco may be the much hotter woman but I found Judith Hoag to be hot as April O'Neil in the first movie, mostly because of this

I always wondered how truly fierce and vicious Rahzar and Tokka could be, and how brutal the Super Shredder could've been. Did these three ever appear in the Mirage comics? I've read the first couple of issues of those, and it's quite an eye-opener how much darker and more brutal the comics are contrasted with the 1980s cartoon.

Agreed. Judith FTW.

I had a huge crush on her when I was a kid. She was really cute in TMNT. She still looks great.

I recently rewatched TMNT2 and have to say it's held up better than I remembered. Still very inferior to the original film, but it has it's charm and is watchable, and there's a lot of nostalgia value for me with this movie. I love Tokka and Rahzar, the fight scenes are enjoyable and the movie is never dull. But I still can't help but feel the movie is a missed opportunity due to being rushed and toned down. Don't even get me started on that weak climax with Super Shredder, I'm still floored by how ridiculous it is that he died so easily considering what he survived from the first movie.

Still, the movie is better than I remembered.

There's no one to blame but the parents of America for the second movie being so soft, all because many of them complained that the first movie was "too dark" for kids and had too much violence and profanity.

TMNT II can be considered the Batman Forever of the series (more blatantly commercialized and kid friendly than the previous one). Vanilla Ice's appearance was the tale-tell since that the franchise had completely sold out.

That's a good way to look at it. It's far more light-hearted, tamed and kid-oriented compared to the original, which despite being aimed at kids was still a very dark, gritty and mature movie. It's not a bad film on it's own merits, but such a stepdown from the original, IMO. I felt it had potential to outdo the original had it maintained the same tone and vibe of the first and had it not been rushed.

Hahaha, I love the second TMNT movie. It's definitely one of those "So bad it's good" movies.

*dances to Ninja Rap*

She had damn good legs. Hard to believe she was only 22 when she made that (she's actually like 3 years younger than Paige Turco, but you wouldn't think it from looking at her).

Anyhow, when I was a kid I liked 2 & 3 better. Now, I find that I like #1 better and can't quite sit through 2 & 3, though I have to give 3 just a little bit of credit for having Mikey, Raph and even Leo feel tempted to stay in the Japan of the past - Donatello of course cannot live without technology.

honestly, I think that Judith was hotter than Paige in a more natural way. Paige was cute but generic.

I think one thing I would do to Judith was maybe straighten out her hair. I love curly hair normally but I think perhaps it was too distracting in the film..

although it wasnt the greatest movie it was still 100 times better than the 3rd :hehe:

i think i was 8 when the first one came out and enjoyed both the 1st and 2nd
hmm i gotta track me down a copy of the first one actually :yay:

She was Seth Rogen before there was a Seth Rogen.

here's my question:

at the end of the first movie, why did the cops just leave Shredder's body in the garbage truck? And when the truck dumped out the trash at the dump, didn't any of the garbage men noticed..an armored human body falling out?

why did the cops just leave Shredder's body in the garbage truck?

Because no one told them he was there. Remember that the cops arrived when everything was over. Sam Rockwell told them to check the warehouses and probably fled after that. Meanwhile, April wasn't gonna say anything since it would raise too many question. The same applies to the kid of the station manager.

when the truck dumped out the trash at the dump, didn't any of the garbage men noticed..an armored human body falling out?

No, because garbage men just dump the trash from within the vehicle. The real question is: what was a garbage truck doing in the middle of the street during the night time.

Totally agree.

Isn't Super Shredder played by Kevin Nash?

First time I saw that movie, even as a child I realized how much of a let down the ending was.

The buildup was amazing...Super Shredder looked jacked, Turtles looked like they were in trouble and then...............he commits suicide?
