Nolan Near Deal to Direct The Prisoner

Jack Kirby made a comicbook of the Prisoner that wasn't published, just so you all know!

But The Prisoner is not John Drake, and Bauer is quite different to both characters anyway. The Prisoner is not as unbondian and unconventionnal a spy series can be. I think the actor should either be British or Irish, and relatively unknown.

Considering how he's casted his Hollywood movies before, there's a very good chance of that happening.

The Prisoner is one of my favorite old TV shows. I still remember the mind warp it gave me the first few times I saw it. Love the opening and closing credits music. I hope they keep that tune and just re-do it.

It would great for Nolan to direct. I have no problem with the prisoner being an American though. Keifer Sutherland would do well in the role I think.

My pick would be somebody like Adrian Dunbar, who really looks like McGoohan and is like him Irish and Catholic, so he is most likely to have the same sensibilities. Christopher Eccleston was rumored for the role, and he would be a great choice too.

It might work with a unknown, but Universal is probably going to want some star. Sutherland technically was born in England and raised in Canada. Eccleston was rumoured for the 6 part remake television series that will air in the UK next spring. If there will already be 2 British versions of The Prisoner, the movie will probably feature an American character for Number 6. Prisoner used the aura of Danger Man, the film could use the aura of Jack Bauer.

Undoubtedly, but Nolan seems to be pretty adamant about casting Brits in his movies. Memento starred Guy Pierce, even his hollywood blockbuster Batman Begins starred Welsh born Christian Bale and the Irish born Cillian Murphy, and his upcoming flick stars Bale and Aussie Hugh Jackman. If Hollywood so far hasn't been able to stop him from casting non-American actors for his films, I doubt they'd be able to now what with the clout he's gained.

How about Rufus Sewell?

The Prisoner was a cool TV show, picked it up on DVD and am making my way through it all again.. I think Nolan could do something good with it  I hope Ecclestone doesn't get it.

Nice avatar WallaCrawl  :D

OH MAN, that's AWESOME.

Why wasn't that released?

Oh, and Wilhelm clearly has his Jack Kirby raging hard on going, so we should probably just back away or something:dry::huh:

Oh, Jack. Yes! YES!

He usually sucks at likenesses (except when he drew Don Rickles), but th^t's pretty good.

duh, the Annunaki/Marvel Power Structure

Blast it! They're always ONE STEP AHEAD!

I've never seen the show, but I will of course see this movie and every other movie Nolan does

I think people are more apt to be fine with this because not a lot of mainstream people have seen the show, and they're still reeling from Nolan's successes. I remember a few years back someone mentioned doing a big screen version of this show and it was like a resounding "NO!" from a huge lot of fanboys. Go figure.

He was known in the UK and that was it, really, and even he hesitated to play Number 6 because he thought people would identifie him with John Drake, which he didn't want to. Murphy is a bit young for the role I think, but he would make a good number in the village.

The studio might want an American as much as they want, but it's a British series with a British sensibility, and using an American star would be a mistake, just as it would be a mistake to use the "aura" of Jack bauer to sell the movie. Because The Prisoner is nothing like 24 in terms of feel and ideology.

Perhaps they were the best ones for the role. What about Insomnia?

An exception is not a rule. And Noilan casted Williams against types here, which is not the reflexes Hollywood executives would have. If you want to keep a British feel and sensibility to a movie adaptation of The Prisoner, better keep it away from Hollywood. A lot of unknown/relatively unknown actors would be great as the Prisoner. Especially since people would identifie themselves more with an unknown face than a star's face.

No, that's the old timers in the Academy Awards. It helps prolong their life.
