Hopefully we can get Stephen Sommers on board to cast Channing Tatum as the Penguin.
I remember when in an interview, Nolan said he hadn't considered putting The Joker in Batman 3 while writing TDK, I believed it. Though now I'm thinking, that was the "public" answer, and he just doesn't wanna admit that Joker ideas he had for B3 got shot to hell.I wouldn't doubt that he lies in interviews

There's no reason Joker HAD to return in a third film. Would it have been nice? Absolutely. But there's nothing in THE DARK KNIGHT that sets up that he MUST return.
I think at this point the simple answer is...we don't know for sure, but it seems more likely that Nolan will finish the franchise than abandon it.
And I've gotta be honest...I don't care if his plans were altered. With the amount of Batman lore available, with all the possibilities...if the Nolans, Goyer, the producers, and whoever else cannot come up with a decent story for a third Batman movie when they haven't even painted themselves into a corner with the events of TDK...while they may still be artists, they'd be pretty crappy storytellers, and I doubt very much I'd want people with that little imagination or commitment to the project back anyway.
Of course what happened is Heath created the most extraordinary character that you would love to see 10 movies about.
which is why I'm afraid he may not return for a 3rd film as it's obvious he can't go through with his original plans.
and sorry to rag on Heath (but I'm not a fan of his whatsoever so his work outside of TDK means jack **** to me and so does he) so you Heath fans might want to skip over my following comments:
>Begins Heath bashing<
I found it selfish that dude couldn't control his drug habits enough to prevent himself from overdosing. Dude was a full grown adult that should've been smart enough to know better than to "mix drugs because his rich ass couldn't sleep". You're a freaking millionare that's making movies and flat out living la vida loca and you're going to risk all of that because of a little insomnia?..........BOO FREAKING HOO
cry me a river already. You get up the next morning, do what you gotta do and hope you get a few more hours of sleep the next night. Rinse, Wash, Repeat.
Yea, I'm a Batfan, not a Heath fan. I wanted the 3rd installment Nolan had originally intended and am not going to get it because poor baby couldn't sleep
>End Heath Bashing<
and no I'm not going to respond to anyone who has any hateful comments towards me becaue of my opinion on the guy and what took place. Like I said, I'm not a fan of his, he's done nothing (outside of The Joker) that's impressed me and in the end, don't give 2 licks of quirt about him. Just letting you know
At the time of writing the story for TDK, it was indeed originally intended by Goyer to be split across two story arcs, with The Joker being captured at the end of the film and the next story involving the scarring and fall of Harvey Dent. That is in fact legit, and I believe there were also a few news outlets that ran with that story when it got out if you want more proof.
I think I just threw up in my mouth a little.Hopefully we can get Stephen Sommers on board to cast Channing Tatum as the Penguin.

Exactly. From the way things panned out in TDK, the Joker's story is done. He's made his point - Gotham is in tatters at the end of the film and there's really nothing more he can do besides blow up a few more things, just because he likes blowing things up.There's no reason Joker HAD to return in a third film. Would it have been nice? Absolutely. But there's nothing in THE DARK KNIGHT that sets up that he MUST return.
Yuppity. At a panel where Wally Pfister spoke about TDK, he said that he had no idea if Nolan was going to do it until he got the request to show up for work.Nolan, like many artists, (whether thats musicians, fine arts, etc.) has made it clear that he makes every film as if it is going to be his last. This is such an important thing to understand from an artistic stand point, so I'd like to elaborate. That mindset of "this is my last film..ever" is a powerful motivator and the secret behind the success of many creative people. So when Nolan says "I havent thought about the third film" he's absolutely telling the truth, because he put everything he thought he needed to put into a Bat film into TDK.
At the time, that film was his only focus and he made it as if it were the last he would ever make. Many assume he's referring to it being the last "Batman" film he'd make, but its much bigger than that. He treats EVERY film like this. Right now, Inception is being treated as if it were Chris's last project. Batman 3 will have the same mindset.
All and all, there was really no premeditated intention to bring The Joker back, although I'm sure they'd enjoy having that option. But they haven't painted themselves into any corner, and they certainly haven't decided to call it quits because of an actors tragic death.
There's really no telling exactly WHAT they'll do. But again, if the story is there, it doesn't matter. We'll all be along for the ride.
The guy just doesn't plan that far ahead. And unless Nolan has told every one of his crew members to lie in public, that part I will believe.I'd for one be happy, even if Heath was alive, if the Joker didn't return...
example, Jack Sparrow, in the first pirates, he was awesome... now comes the sequels... I was sick of him, and thought less of his character
leave us wanting more...

lol sorry, I'm new around here. I've been hanging around TDK forum mostly.^That's probably only the 10,000th time his name has name come up in this section in regards to the Joker.![]()
