The Dark Knight Rises Nolan officially signed on for Batman 3 (source included)

It's not "official" until WB issues the press release with Christopher Nolan listed as the director for BB3. However, once I read the news on "Inception", I figured that it was all but assured he would be back for a third film.

The Inception deal with the BB3 clause has been reported almost exactly when Inception was first announced... weeks ago... so yeah this is not recent news. The only news here is that BB3 probably gets put off because of Inception since I don't think Nolan will be able to fit BB3 for summer 2011.

That's funny, because one of the ways Nolan thought he could improve on BB was blowing more things up. :funny: At least, that's what Wally Pfister claimed and he can be a jokester at times. :cwink:

Nolan says this too on the Blu Ray. Though I'm not sure they will try to top the destruction of TDK considering Joker won't be the main villain.

Why not? What if Bane or Freeze become the main villain? I could see them downright destroying Gotham, even if not by pure bombing.

He's filming Inception this summer (2009), meaning he's got a year and a half starting at the beginning of this year to get a good script together for Batman 3, and then start filming in summer 2010. TDK began filming in summer 2007.

yeah its gonna be great ...at least i hope so. he has to bring the story to a bigger end than tdk had, wich, is kind of hard.
as i heard is they will go on with harvey ...
wonder how this going to be...
maybe like: seeing the last scene where batman drives away and then, gordon looks back to dent and he's gone, or is still allive???? i mean they wanted to go on with the joker but then had to write him out of the script...and now they try to go on with harvey ...its what ive red dont know , but its logically to me, except finding another villain .../(merchandise for new action figures and stuff..:-) but they could reimagine harvey (healed scars you know)
and add another character and a new suit and a new batmobile, so ...harvey still could be in it and they dont need to make a bigger jump to another scenario....-

True, I just meant I don't think Nolan will try to up the destruction and chaos ante so to speak in this film. I'd like to see this one more mystery based almost, with Batman having to solve murder cases or something...who knows. He will figure something out.

The final Harry Potter is already scheduled for a July 15, 2011 release taking what would have been BB3's spot. I don't see WB putting both their big guns in the same summer(HP and Batman). Plus, the sequel to Terminator:Salvation is already scheduled for release in 2011, I don't see WB putting two Bale movies so close to one another. I see 2012 for BB3.

While I am taking a Terminator sequel announced THIS early with a grain of salt... I think Inception, being a sci-fi picture and all, will take Nolan through the spring wrapping up post production on that... meaning he'd have to double up if BB3 would be out a year later. He was only working on the script/story boards of TDK while working on Prestige... not exactly doubling up to great lengths if you ask me. Had Prestige been summer 2007 then it would have been REALLY tight between TDK... I think Nolan will take the summer off... like he basically did after TDK... and he will perfect the story he wants to tell in the fall... prepping for pre-production for 2011... 2012 release. It's way too tight to fit TDK for 2011. Unless they consider a Holiday release. Not to mention 2011 being jamm packed as it is... I honestly think that was a factor in WB's "not rushing things for the sake of having a 2011 DC/superhero tentpole."

Good point about HP. If Nolan decides to have Batman ready for a 2011 release, they might move one of them to a fall/winter 2011 release. I would hope it'd be Batman. Perhaps that would help somewhat with awards consideration (if it's a great movie once again). As for your point about Bale, I don't think studios give a crap about overexposure of their star actors. :woot:

You know they can change the dates for these movies . Anyways the hype for Batman Begins 3 is a lot bigger than Harry Potter

I found it odd when WB announced the release date for the Green Lantern movie as December 2010. I thought it was risky to test an untested property during this season. No one really knows if the general audience would care about GL. I wonder if they are testing the market to see if a blockbuster can still make money if released during the winter season and if GL can do it, WB would go on to announce shortly after that Batman 3 will be released December 2011, instead of Summer 2012, which would also help with any Oscar aspirations.

Much as i would like to see a third film, i have to agree with some of the naysayers - the best case scenario would be for critics to declare it as "as good as" TDK (an incredibly well reviewed film) and for it to just about make as much money. That's the best case - a tie, effectively.

To avoid comparisons with TDK (and there will definately be them, in the mind of the public in review and merely statistically) i think nolan would be wise to completely scale down, make the third film a very small scale drama, and sell the idea of it being a completely different animal.

I was thinking the exact same thing, too. Nolan pulled out so many stops for TDK until its gonna be kind of hard to top it. If you really think about it, how can you top it? TDK was more grand, more epic and more action packed than BB until it seems like Nolan doesn't have a choice but to make a more character-driven third movie. Time will tell I guess.

Don't mean to be a killjoy but I don't see Freeze or Bane being in Nolan's Batuniverse, I really don't. Nolan is about realism. I think he's gonna go with someone more believable in a real-world setting like Riddler, maybe Catwoman or possibly Mad Hatter ( if they go the sex-offender route, I don't know).

Why are some of you guys wrapped up in Oscars??? You think WB gives a crap about winning awards??? Considering TDK won virtually nothing outside of Heath, and it was a great film. BELIEVE ME, if they go with a winter release... Oscars would be one of the last things on their minds. Besides, I think if GL does well Holidays 2010... Supes will go to Holidays 2011... and Batman will wait for summer 2012. Moving HP8 to mid-July all but assures BB3 will not make summer 2011.

The spot light on TDK has made some fans think that this sequel would citizen kane quality, sweeping the oscars in a heroic like fashion so that they can now admit to their friends they read comics.

The thing that excites me the most is that Nolan said he would only return for BB3 if he had a plot/script worthy of filming. WELL- it appears that he has it!!!!!

The man is pure genius and i cant wait to see what he brings us in BB3!!!

The best we can hope for is nominations in 1 or more of the major categories (Picture, Director, Screenplay). No way in hell it would win anything. But the movie has to be very original in its storytelling and themes to achieve those nominations. Not likely with a superhero sequel.

The Dark Knight was a movie that truly broke what was once perceived as the traditional campy superhero movie.

It did what most superhero movies before it did not - it had balls.

And if The Reader can get a nomination in all 3 of those, TDK should have swept everything. The Oscars are now irrelevant - the politics are blatant.

I think it's been cool to like Batman and read comics since TDK broke the opening weekend record and became the second-highest grossing film in recent history. :cwink:

I don't think anyone really pays attention to the Oscars anymore. At least the people I'd want to be friends with. :funny: Or hell, it's fun to pay attention to them, it's another thing to take them seriously.

Great news. Let the anticipation begin!! :D

But I just want to say, all of you who want no more Bat films after Nolan is done are not real Bat fans. You're just like those muppets on that retire the Joker website.

There should always be Batman films, it's the GODDAMN BATMAN cripes sakes!!

Saying that though, after Nolan is done I want to see some Bat films in a completely different style. A hyper stylized trilogy. You have Nolan's hyper realistic trilogy then a hyper stylized trilogy in the mould of Sin City. Del Toro anyone?

Thats what I have been thinking as well. Have BB3 be more of a crime noir twist mystery with of course action.
