The Amazing Spider-Man Nolanize the Spider-Man Universe

I've got to say, arguing over what "Nolanize" means is making me laugh. Hard. Nolanize isn't a word, so it could mean "the process of polishing live fish with rat urine" and be just as valid.

My "Nolan/Heroes" Spider-Man:

Peter Parker is a technopath with the power of intuitive aptitude from the beginning.

The spider that bites Peter Parker is first exposed to the super soldier experiments at OsCorp.

Parker becomes a super human on the level of Captain America, he develops silk spinners in his arms, and his aptitude for mechanical things and technopathic sense increase allowing him to build a suit that sticks to surfaces.


Octavius would turn out to be Peter's father and desires Spider-Man to join him (in the sequel), building mechanical arms and headgear with six camera lenses allowing Spiderman to see in all directions.

I feel like not many people know what they're talking about in this thread. If Nolan were given Spider-Man he wouldn't automatically strip him of everything that makes him Spider-Man, he may not even go for realism. Each character yields a unique take, something true to their roots. Batman has those darker roots. Truth is that all comic book movies need a certain level of verisimilitude for the audience to care for the character.

Some people are worried that the reboot's "grittier" angle might be because of the Dark Knight movie. So what if they Nolanized the Spider-Man universe?
How would they go about that? What would you accept? What would be going too far?
What If the Green Goblin was a psycho wearing a rubber mask?
Just for fun How would you Nolanize the Spider-Man universe.

Ah I see, so perhaps rather than what if it were "nolanized" it would be, what if it were in the same world as Batman Begins? I think this is funny especially now, when Nolan has been elected a creative consultant on just as fantastical a character: Superman.

Yeah, and Burton was in line to direct SUperman. In fact, I seem to recall Raimi being considered before the role went to Singer. And look how that turned out. Just because you're successful with one superhero project DOES NOT mean you know what to do with another.
But again, the whole point of this thread is taking what Nolan did with Batman & aplying a similar approach to Spider-Man. I doubt anyone here truly thinks he would, but that's what the thread is about.

dark and gritty is fine for bats but that's not what I want to see for spidey I couldn't care less how popular BB and TDK are I want to see a lighter more fun spidey.

if you mean a realistic spider-man that isn't afraid to suspend reality when necessary and stay true to the source material, yes. or you mean a realistic spider-man that knocks imagination on its butt and puts darkness in it's way, no.

End of the genre as a matter of fact. I feel the genre already peaked with Batman Begins, Iron Man, and The Dark Knight. Hopefully Iron Man 2 turns out well but I am expecting a bit of a step down from the first movie. Batman 3 will also be a step down too. Everything else will end up being a joke with the "Nolanification" of the genre. It's all downhill from here, I'm afraid.

I disagree. There's a lot of comedy in Iron Man but I haven't seen too many people complaining about it being campy. Humor has its place but it has to be well-crafted both from a script and acting standpoint.

Not sure I would call it Nolanizing, but in the spirit of the thread:

- More realism. For example, Peter basically has his arms ripped out of their sockets trying to stop a runaway train in SM2 and we see zero after effects.

- Peter battles superpowered villains, blow for blow, and we do not see any bruising/cuts/etc. on his face

- Less Cheeze. Take out scenes that are basically childish. For example "Film's Exxxxxtra" at such a key point as the final battle in SM3.

- Less soap-operish. The ALL about ONE girl BS needs to go. And Peter and MJ have a co-dependent relationship as described by Raimi, that ANYONE would tell them their NO GOOD for each other.. PERIOD.

- Less sympathetic villains - not realistic and takes away from the storylines/impact of the villain that should be sympathetic (Lizard)

- Do Not connect EVERY villain to Peter. Again, takes away from the storylines/villains that SHOULD be connected to Peter.

- Tell Spider-Man's greatest Arc - The Night Gwen Stacy Died.

- Do not corrupt great storylines from Spider-Man history by MAKING IT (mostly) ALL ABOUT ONE GIRL (Spidey No More. EVERYTHING does NOT need to center around MJ, and SHOULD NOT.

- Serious villains/costumes. Some things, like the Goblin from ASM would not move from the comic to the screen well, but.. what we got was a joke. And then, when they got a chance to redeem with the Goblin 2 (Harry), we got Surfer Doood. I can see TPTB saying.. Dood.. a skateboard that flies.. COWABUNNGA DOOOD.. Major Toy sales to Da Kiddos.

- Serious Writing - "We'll Meet AGAIN Spider-Man"... "Deliver.. us from.. EVILLLLLLLLL" "and any image of Uncle Ben in Speedos.. Sheesh :

- Serious motivations for a villain

- Gothic/Dark/Costume for the GOBLIN (Yes, basically listed twice BUT Damn Did I want that..)

- Funny lines via smart writing.. Not slapstick humor or slapstick cameos. Basically, make up your mind your doing a serious take on Spdier-Man and NOT a tongue in cheek one. No Dancing/Stuttin Emo Parker. Make Parker actually Dark when the symbiote infests him.

- No Cutsey Kids (related to the Damn Director or Producer or Staff or WHOEVER).. to deliver eye rolling/cringe worthy Lines.. ESPECIALLY at critical times of the film

- NO FRICKIN announcers.. telecasting final battles.. "This Could be the End for Spider-Man"... SHEESSSHHH

- Develop the rich supporting cast that Spider-Man has, as opposed to creating new characters, or changing the existing characters completely

- Stay true to characrters..

and ON.. And On... And On.....
