The Dark Knight Nolan's Gotham and atmosphere

Yeah good point. It only took a quick turn to see a completly differnt scene. reminds me of Atlanta. It aint hard to fins yerself in the ghetto there.

I kinda chuckled at this scene in BB, as it showed how filming is done. The location where the turn took place was at a parking ramp that goes to a garage that's below street level at one of the Federal Buildings here in Chicago. The footage was then cut to show them driving on Lower Wacker Drive (also below street level), which is a number of blocks away. Basically, as shown in that scene, "ya cain't get there from here..."

Man I've heard that so many times in bed I can't even count....
wait

did i just type that?

Is it just me or do all of Burton's films look the same? That same design. I appreciate Burton's Gotham, but I like Nolan's more. Well-grounded and fits the purpose.

i see what youre saying, but to me, thats partially the appeal of burton...he has a world his films take place in. im not a huge fan of his, but i do appreciate what he does.

In due time my friend the atmosphere will rain down in Gotham. In due time...

Burton's movie's usually focus on the outcast character. He's pretty big on that and he likes contrasting two different worlds...the world through the eyes of the outcast and then the rest of the world.

You mean like if we could just pan a little bit to the left in a shot of his Gotham we'd see the Chocolate Factory? Yes.

No doubt the guy is creative. Mars Attacks and Big Fish are some of my favorite movies. But he shouldn't be allowed to take over a comic-franchise. Didn't ya just dig his take on Superman?

I think the Burton/Anton Furst design for Gotham in Batman '89 was awesome. (clearly an homage to the Batman of the late 30's/40's era)
But the Returns was a step down from the 89 sets. The less said bout Schumacher's Gotham, the better.

But Nolan/Crowley's designs for Gotham make it look like a real city. They remind me of Batman comics from the 70s and 80s - which have some of the best stories imo.

to be honest, his would have probably been better than what we got from singer....shudder....

I love Nolan's Gotham, it fits his vision, but I've always personally preferred the BTAS style the most out of any Gotham, it feels the most authentic when you are talking about this town run by gangsters.

I did always dig how TAS was something of mix between the 1940's & modern.

As the cast extends in TDK the corruption and crime will probably become more clear, the pace was so fast all through Begins that we didn't have much time to soak in the atmosphere, or get a complete understanding of the real forces behind the city. It's a superficially prosperous Gotham with an undercurrent of corruption, it's kind of hard to get the idea across quickly, although people talked about it. With TDK we're getting various new gangs, examples of petty crime and larger drug deals, the politics of Gotham, a media subplot, the vigilantes and more of the justice system

good god, some of the people working in hollywood....no wonder crap like batman and robin is allowed to be made...that peters guy is INSANE.

Every time I read about the no flight and giant spider requirement I crack up.

I'm with the "feels more real" crowd. The coolest aspect of Batman is that he has no superpowers and is just a regular guy. To put him in a "regular" world emphasizes that point...

<melodrama>and makes us feel like we ALL have the potential to be Batmen or women</melodrama>
