seems like everyone is jumping on the VR bandwagon.......

Eh, I really won't treat this rumor as gospel, at least not yet. Really seems questionable a lot of the stuff being said.

Good old Nintendoomed. Completely ignoring the fact that they have said that Scorpio games will also be able to be played on the Xbone, I don't think the power comparisons are that much of an issue. As long as the NX is comparable to the PS4 and Xbone, it should be fine.

It'll come down to games. Nintendo has to bring the games. The Wii U didn't take off at launch because there was not **** to play on it for nearly a year, and it never recovered because the games didn't come steadily enough and there was never a price drop. Hopefully Nintendo learned a lesson and will have the software support the NX needs to stay competitive.

exactly.

I just watched the Zelda E3 trailer. Who cares if that game isn't running on a 6 teraflop console at 4K or whatever the new buzzwords are?

The fact is, Zelda looks amazing, and if the game itself matches the quality of its looks, then the selling point of the NX is that it is the only machine where you can play a game like that ( well, aside from the Wii U version, but you get my point ).

Same with Metroid. Or Mario. or one of the many other 1st party titles that only Nintendo can deliver.

NX doesn't need to compete on raw power. It will compete primarily on having a strong, steady supply of stellar 1st party titles.

However, the NX can't be vastly inferior either, or rely too much on a gimmick, because it needs good 3rd party, too.

so I saw this today I was wonder if I should give it it own title or put it here I'm going with here cause it';s too early and they didn't really show anything. it was more like a mention. also this was put up by the north American president Reggie below it.

"Maybe next E3 we'll be able to share something."

With The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Nintendo is challenging the conventions of the franchise by setting it in an open world. Next, the company plans on challenging the conventions of Mario.

“We’re always challenging ourselves to create something new, so hopefully you’ll see a new kind of Mario in about a year or two,” Shigeru Miyamoto said in an interview with IGN at E3 2016.

“Maybe next E3 we’ll be able to share something.”
Miyamoto explained that the challenges in tweaking the Mario formula differ from those exhibited by the Zelda series, given Mario‘s wide audience.
“It’s kind of difficult with Mario because some of the more important conventions of Mario are based on the approachability and accessibility of those games,” Miyamoto said, noting that having new people join Nintendo has allowed them to look “at the conventions with fresh eyes.”

Nintendo of America President, Reggie Fils-Aime, was recently asked about the upcoming Nintendo NX, and how it will stack up to Xbox One Scorpio and Playstation 4 NEO. Reggie responded to Bloomberg (via Nibel):
“For us, it’s not about specs, it’s not about teraflops, it’s not about the horsepower of a particular system. For us, it’s about the content.”
As fans are now well aware, Nintendo chose not to unveil its upcoming Nintendo NX system at this year’s E3. The company is planning to share more about the NX sometime later in the year. This makes sense because they need to get some hype behind it before it’s launch next March. The bigger the hype train, the better you can expect your system’s launch to be. Nintendo President, Tatsumi Kimishima, has said that the NX will not be a “pure” replacement or successor for the Wii U. Instead, he says it will give players a “new way of playing games”.

Reggie had more to say in the interview about the NX, and its power compared to that of its competitors:
“We’re focused on bringing our best entertainment to both the Wii U as well as the NX in the future. So for us, whatever Microsoft and Sony are doing in terms of talking about new systems, that’s for them to fight out in that red ocean.”
This may be to the chagrin of some fans. It is no secret that Nintendo’s home console systems have been under-powered compared to their competitors for the last couple generations of consoles now. Personally, I’m not overly bothered by this. Nintendo is pretty good at making good content most of the time. Super Mario Maker still needs some serious fixes that haven’t come, though. Regardless, Nintendo has an obvious problem, given the fact that the Wii U did not do so well. They need to turn that around with the NX, but will they?
I can admit that I used to be the sort of fan boy that thought Nintendo could do no wrong. Unfortunately for Nintendo, I grew up and am now older and wiser. I’m still a big fan, but confused by some of the silly things they’ve done in recent times. We’ll have to wait and see how the Nintendo NX fairs, but hopefully it won’t flop like the Wii U has done.

It's that narrow-minded line of thinking that's going to get Nintendo lost in the shuffle yet again I'm afraid. Especially with 3rd parties yet again. As a Nintendo fan it's dishearteningly to read that about the hardware yet again. They really need to get with the times on several fronts.

Basically they're giving up since Microsoft and Sony have unveiled even more powerful hardware for next year.

Really, because are third parties going to give up when they have to make games compatible with Xbone, Xbone S, Scorpio, PS4, and PS Neo? Everything seems to point out to the NX being comparable to the current PS4 and Xbone.

Nintendo has tried to compete with power before, and it hasn't worked. And I seriously doubt even if they made a Scorpio equivalent, that things would turn around for certain.

If the NX don't bring a substantially amount of power; 3rd Party game makers are not going to make any attempt to support the NX. That means, Nintend is going to have to rely heavily on its 1st Party games. I think they are banking on their ability to do just that.

The problem with WiiU, outside of the many stated obvious, was the inability to produce 1st party games for the U...in other words, their new games came out slow & far in between. I think the NX will have the ability to download new software patches & updates to keep their 1st party games new & fresh, in a more timely manner...in order to be less dependent on 3rd party vendors. This why they seem to be confident they can continue the Nintendo muntra or way of thinking.

I have no reason why people are assuming that it isn't as powerful as the PS4 and Xbone. That should be enough power for third parties, considering that they already are going to have to make something work on Xbone and PS4 as well as the Neo and Scorpio.

You can't say "who cares about 4K?" because 4K is legit.. And they're insanely cheap now too. Eventually not being 4K is going to be like not offering HD graphics.

Nintendo has no excuse to not be more powerful than the standard PS4. None.

But is it legit enough to pay $400 for a console whose only benefit is 4K? When we aren't even sure how well the game makers will be able to make 4k games.

They'll probably market the VR capabilities as a MUST BUY FEATURE!!! or something like that. :p

It makes no sense that it wouldnt be as powerful as them. If its weaker, then i see no difference between the NX and what they did with the Wii U.

People paid $400 for a 360 back in 2005 when HD was not a standard format and most homes did not have an HDTV, but it was obvious things were changing so MS, like Sony future proofed their consoles and Nintendo didnt, hence the Wii came out the way it did

Big difference, is that the 360 had 360 only games. From what they've said, you only need to get the Scorpio if you have a 4K tv. Just how many of the existing Xbone user base will that be? These whole iterative console thing just seems like a big risk, and not necessarily a threat to Nintendo.

To put it into perspective, the Scorpio is essentially the New 3DS.

4K will replace HDTV even for those who don't care about it within a few years. At that point whenever you buy a new TV it will have 4k as standard. It's not easy buying a large non HD TV nowadays (or a black and white :woot:) for eg even if you don't care about HD.

Target is selling 4K TV's for reasonable prices now. 4K is definitely going to become the norm soon.

I wonder how MS achieved 4K or how close they are to achieve it cause from what I've seen even the most powerful PC graphics card can't handle 4K at 60fps yet. :hmm

No need for 60FPS. Console guys have shown a preference (compared to pc guys) in single player for flashier graphics at 30FPS. With multiplayer (especially FPS, beat'em ups, driving games) the graphics/resolution are less important and 60FPS would be the first target, sacrificing whatever needs to be sacrificed to achieve that. A lot of the times when people are saying a card is 'struggling' in a pc benchmark test it is still getting 30FPS or very close to it. 4k at 60FPS on the leading games of 2017 onwards won't be happening on Scorpio though without sacrificing in other areas.

Where is 4K super cheap nowadays? I've yet to see a decent 4K TV for less than $500-600. I wouldn't call that cheap for the average consumer.

It's relatively super-cheap just compared to what it was a year ago but not yet at the price where the mass market will jump in. By the Scorpio release date though prices will be much lower. The TV I got last month is 2/3 of the price of an inferior model from last year and would have cost 4 times as much 3 years ago (I have been tracking it every few days since then).

They are definitely alot more affordable today. A few months ago I saw a 50 inch Samsung Smart 4KTV for about $650 which is about what my comparable 1080P 3D cost on Black Friday 2013. Samsung is high end. They are not that expensive anymore and should be even lower by next year when these consoles roll out

bc MS is deceptive with their wording. Theres a difference between a game being rendered in 4K and a game being rendered in 1080p and uprezed to output to 4K. The Scorpio is likely the latter bc PCs struggle with true 4k gaming. Its the same thing with the XB1 now. All games output at 1080p but by and large most of them arent rendered in 1080p. Most are 900P and in rare cases, actually 720P. Its what the Scorpio will likely be
