Ever since Nintendo first mentioned their upcoming NX console last year we haven’t heard much about it at all, but Shigeru Miyamoto shared an explanation in an interview with Associated Press.

Here’s what he said about the NX in the interview:

“In terms of NX, there’s an idea that we’re working on. That’s why we can’t share anything at this point, and I don’t want to comment on the other companies. If it was just a matter of following advancements in technology, things would be coming out a lot quicker
We can expect to learn more about the Nintendo NX sometime this year.

EP Daily Rundown for June 29, 2016

We have a shocking Rundown today starting with details on the playable pre-alpha demo for the new System Shock game.
Then we have early rumblings about Nintendo entering virtual reality, some great news for Overwatch players, hands-on
with the latest on the Xbox One Elite Controller, a look at the newest DLC for Call of Duty, and finally, we troll you with a new animated movie.

Remember Citadel! You can start playing the new System Shock game right now. A pre-alpha demo for the upcoming reboot of the genre-defining first-person RPG is now available to download on Steam and GOG. It offers about 10-15 minutes of gameplay that’s designed to give players a brief taste of what the final game will be like when it’s released next year. Keep in mind that this is a pre-alpha demo and things are still in the early stages of development, so you may encounter a few technical issues. The developers are releasing the demo at such an early stage because they want to get people interested in the game’s Kickstarter campaign, which just launched yesterday. Follow the link below this video to check it out. The original System Shock was released in 1994 and helped kick off the first-person RPG genre, leading to other games like Deus Ex and BioShock. Many of the original developers, including producer Warren Spector, are working on the remake, and they want to recapture the same gameplay style with modern visuals. More power to them.
You might soon be able to enter the Mushroom Kingdom in virtual reality. Nintendo is interested in making VR games. That’s according to Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, who recently told investors that they’re researching the core technology behind VR. He adds that one concern they have is with play time; they want to make sure that players can safely wear a VR headset for extended periods. This makes sense given that Nintendo’s last attempt at VR, the Virtual Boy, was a complete disaster mainly because you couldn’t wear it for very long without getting a headache. Hopefully any new Nintendo VR games will be much better received. It’s unclear if the new Nintendo console, codenamed the NX, will have any VR capabilities when it launches next year, but we’ll let you know when more details come in. Nintendo’s rival Sony is launching the PlayStation VR headset this October, and Microsoft is rumoured to be partnering with Oculus to bring VR to their more powerful Xbox One Scorpio next year.
Overwatch is finally getting its most requested feature. The game’s highly-anticipated ranked competitive multiplayer mode launches today on the PC. Blizzard originally promised that it would be released sometime this month, so they made it, just barely. Ranked competitive modes are an important part of many online games. They’re basically a more intense version of normal PvP based around a system of divisions and tiers, and players love them because you can rank up faster and collect more rewards than normal. Even though the mode is out now on the PC, it still isn’t out for the PS4 and Xbox One versions of the game. Blizzard says they’re finished, but currently going through the necessary approval process for both systems. They hope it will be out on consoles next week.
It looks like everyone wants to get their hands on the Xbox One Elite Controller. Xbox head Phil Spencer has revealed that they’ve just sold their one millionth pro controller. For comparison, the Xbox One itself has sold an estimated 18 million units worldwide, which means 1 in 18 players wanted the Elite Controller. It’s a sexier version of the normal Xbox controller, offering more precision and a customizable button layout. It launched last year and was initially sold out, with Microsoft later admitting that they underestimated the high demand. They’re not done with new controllers. The standard Xbox One controller is getting customizable color options that users can design themselves on the Xbox website, with orders slated to begin shipping this September.
An all-new Call of Duty game is about the deploy, but Activision hasn’t left behind the last game in the franchise. Call of Duty: Black Ops 3 has a new batch of DLC dropping July 12. It’s called Descent, and includes four new multiplayer maps along with a new episode in the zombies single-player story. And because fighting off waves of the undead isn’t over-the-top enough, the new episode will also feature a massive, fire-breathing dragon. Because of a timed exclusivity deal between Activision and Sony, the new DLC will deploy first on the PS4, with the Xbox One and PC set to follow at a later date.
If you’re holding out for an all-new Call of Duty experience, the futuristic Infinite Warfare is coming this November. It takes place hundreds of years in the future, and will see Earthlings battle off-world colonists for resources, complete with zero-gravity shooting and space dogfights. I wonder how they’ll squeeze zombies into that.
Hollywood will turn anything into a movie these days, and sometimes it feels like they’re trolling us. Take a look at the first trailer for the new animated movie Trolls, based on the big-haired dolls that haven’t really been popular since the 1990s. The new film is made by DreamWorks Animation, the same studio behind Kung Fu Panda and How to Train Your Dragon, and it features all the bright colors and loud music that audiences have come to expect from a modern animated movie. There’s also loads of celebrity voices, including Anna Kendrick and Justin Timberlake, which I guess is not a bad thing. Trolls will troll audiences in November, making it the first film from DreamWorks Animation since their much publicised acquisition by NBCUniversal earlier this year. Hopefully parents don’t get Trolls confused with the infamous horror movie Troll 2. That would be unfortunate.

And for event Further NX NEWs

Nintendo Reconfirms NX’s March 2017 Launch And More At 76th General Shareholder’s Meeting. June 29, 2016 . 1:00am

Nintendo held their 76th annual general meeting of shareholders today,

where the company shared the latest information, from their upcoming NX console to software sales.

Nintendo held their 76th annual general meeting of shareholders today, where the company shared the latest information, from their upcoming NX console to software sales. [Thanks, Nintendo Everything.]

Here are some of the highlights from the meeting:

  • There were no big 3DS hit titles, so sales were low
  • Splatoon, Mario Maker, Twilight Princess HD did well
  • amiibo hit 24.7 million units
  • Download sales totaled 43.9 billion yen
  • Miitomo got off to a good start
  • Operating income recovered, but losses due to the strong yen reduced ordinary and net income
  • Pokemon Sun/Moon 3DS due out worldwide in November, with many other Nintendo, strong 3rd-party titles to be released
  • The aim with 3DS is to make the platform active again
  • NX reconfirmed for worldwide launch in March 2017; the dedicated game machine business will continue to be core
  • amiibo and download businesses will continue to receive focus
  • Fire Emblem and Animal Crossing come to smart devices this fall
  • Focusing on My Nintendo, we want to create synergy between the dedicated game machine and smart device businesses
  • Nintendo IP will be used in theme parks, character goods, and film contents
  • Nintendo said the Wii U would continue to fight on, but only Zelda is coming next year

Here are some highlights from the Q&A session:

Q1. I’ve held shares for 20 years. I want to protest the board of directors being all-male. Remember half of the market is female. Also, I don’t use a PC, and I’d like the opinions of those kinds of shareholders to be taken into account.
A1. Kimishima: We don’t have any females [on the board]. For foreigners, Reggie is an operating officer. There are many female employees, and their opinions are applied in product development. It’s important that we continue taking their opinions in dev.

Q2. Looking at the balance sheet, I think this is a very good company, but the stock price is low and needs to be increased. For example, focusing on VR, developing software for elders to exercise and prevent dementia, and other various types of efforts. I would also like a young director to be appointed.
A2. Kimishima: Other companies’ VR presentations at E3 became a topic of discussion. It has captured customers’ interest, and while we’re researching it, we don’t have anything concrete to discuss now. To increase the stock price, we’re utilizing our IP, researching QOL, preparing the NX, and taking on many such challenges.

Q3. It’s been reported that Great Britain is leaving the EU. Does this affect Nintendo, and if so, what are you doing about it?
Kimishima: Financial markets are in turmoil. For now, the yen is strengthening, causing our foreign assets to fall. We have Nintendo UK, and safety standards and personal information regulations from the EU may change under the UK. We’re watching the situation and making preparations.

Q11: About NX manufacturing, I hear that labor costs in China are rising and that robotic assembly is increasing. While going to fabless contract manufacturing, I want to know how you will keep costs down going forward.
Hirokazu Shinshi: I’m in charge of manufacturing. Labor costs have shot up in the last 10 years in China and across ASEAN nations. Manufacturing automation has long been practiced in Japan, and is now done in China. While making the same product for a long time, the amount manufactured changes based on things like the Christmas season. It’s easy to automate unchanging production amounts, but it’s difficult when they do change. We’re thoroughly communicating with our partners to make adjustments. As for the NX, manufacturing is being prepped. We’re considering how much to automate.

Q15. I believe that the game industry’s biggest problems are increasing development costs and the length of development. I’d like to hear from each director what their approach to this is.
Kimishima: Certainly, development costs have increased in the last 10 years. Let’s have each director answer.

Takeda: We’re using increases in productivity to make an appeal with the greatness of games instead of [hardware] performance.

Miyamoto: Breath of the Wild has over 100 staff, and over 300 people in the credits, spending over 5 years. Our current efforts will be helpful in the next production. The costs will be recovered by selling in large volumes, passing 2m sales. A game is a hit in the domestic market if it reaches 300k sales, but we’re targeting worldwide sales. Reviews on the Internet get around. Details get pointed out, so our staff is working more than is required.

Shinya Takahashi: By using resources made for Zelda on other software, we can make many compact titles. The last Brain Training sold a lot with small resources. We’re doing lots of things to reduce development times like reusing game engines.

I keep thinking it's either going to be ground breaking.. Or a cellphone.

Like I said before, it's going to run the new Zelda, so it can't be that out there.

No. The Wii U is for all intents and purposes a failure. Nintendo will want to get away from it. The NX isnt going to be an upgraded Wii U

Nintendo President said the NX is not a successor to the WiiU...so it is not a new system....just like Scorpion is not a successor to XB1 or Neo a successor to PS4. That's why they don't want to kill sales of the WiiU & it's games.

Kill sales of the Wii U? I think that already happened.

Nintendo said the same thing about the DS before it launched as they told gamers that it would stand alongside the GBA. That didnt last long and it was so differnet that of course it was the successor to the handheld. That was just PR fluff as anything said about NX right now pre-official reveal.

Kill sales of the Wii U? I think that already happened.

Exactly. The Wii U has never done well but its been on life support since arguably 2014. There have barely been any big games for it since last year and its never going to see a resurgence in sales again as there is nothing left to mine out of that console. Piggybacking off of the Wii was a bad mistake and continuing the Wii U line with the NX would be disastrous. Nintendo is on the decline and has lost tons of gamers. They need to win them back. Releasing an "upgraded Wii U" makes no sense since that console failed to catch on. The PS4 is selling amazing and The XB1 isnt as good but itself is doing relatively well. Sony and MS have no reason to distance themselves from the PS4 or XB1 brand. Nintendo has every reason to run away from Wii-U

Agreed. NX is the time to start a new sub-brand and build on that for the future. The original Wii was a huge one-off success but it's time to drop that line now.

Good that we have a release date! Impatient to hear details about it now.

Oh I thought that was a new article announcing March 2017. Nevermind

Really want to know more about the NX so I can gauge whether or not it's worth my time. They also need an AMAZING launch lineup. That's what I'm most looking forward to learning.

EP Daily Rundown for July 11, 2016

Today in the Rundown, we discuss the global phenomenon that is Pokémon Go, have some disappointing news for fans of Just Cause 3 and Halo, get the latest on the new Ghostbusters movie, have an update on the X-Men spinof and finally, get the first intel on a TV series based on the Battlefield video games!
Not everyone is happy about Pokémon Go. The new augmented reality game was released last week in the US, Australia, and New Zealand, and it’s already a huge hit, being played by millions of people and raking in loads of dough for its developers. Not all the news is good though. Since the game requires players to physically leave their house and explore the real world, it was only a matter of time before problems started popping up. Police in Missouri claim that a group of armed robbers used the game to lure unsuspecting victims. The alleged robbers found an isolated PokeStop, which is where you can find new Pokémon and items, and then when unsuspecting players came by, they would rob them. Thankfully the robbers didn’t get away because the police were able to catch ‘em all. Meanwhile down under, police in Darwin, Australia are being pestered thanks to the game. One of their police stations happens to be located right next to a Pokémon Gym, which is where players can challenge other teams, but the number of people coming inside the station has become a distraction. The police say you don’t have to actually enter the building to be in range of the gym, so hopefully Darwin players will find a better way to evolve their Pokémon. In more tragic news, a woman in Riverton, Wyoming was searching for a rare water Pokémon near a river when she stumbled upon a dead body floating in the water. Police think the cause of death was drowning and likely had nothing to do with the game, but that’s a good reminder that you never know what real things you might encounter while you’re searching for virtual Pokémon. There are other reports of people walking into traffic, tripping, getting sprained ankles, and suffering other minor injuries because they’re too busy looking down at their phones, and the game does warn players to stay aware of their surroundings while playing. The good news is that there are many people who say that the game has encouraged them to get out of the house, and it’s also easy to meet new friends who are looking for Pokémon in the same area. One place where Pokémon Go isn’t having any issues is Canada, because (at the time we’re filming this) the game still hasn’t been officially released here. The developers say they’re waiting because they don’t want to overload the servers. It is possible to download in Canada by switching over to the American store, and there are plenty of Pokémon to catch in Canadian cities. Hopefully it will get an official Canadian launch in the next few days.

You won’t be able to wreak havoc on the island of Medici with your friends anytime soon. The highly-anticipated fan-made Just Cause 3 multiplayer mod has been cancelled. The game launched last year with no official multiplayer support, but a group of tech savvy fans led by indie developer Cameron Foote were in the process of making a multiplayer mod for the PC version, following the success they had with a similar multiplayer mod for Just Cause 2. Despite fan anticipation, the team has ended development of the new mod, but their reason is actually pretty cool. Foote says that he doesn’t have the time to work on it anymore because he was hired by Just Cause developer Avalanche Studios, and he’s now working on future projects with them. This could mean that they want his help making an official multiplayer mode for Just Cause 3, or they could be planning to include multiplayer support in future games, we’ll just have to wait and see. We do know that the single-player campaign for Just Cause 3 is getting its third and final expansion later this summer. It’s included in the three-part Land, Sea, and Air season pass, and will focus on the waters surrounding the island. I can’t wait to dive into that.
And another big game is scaling back its DLC. Halo 5 developer 343 Industries says that the free monthly updates for the game have ended, and they don’t plan to release any more going forward. This doesn’t mean we won’t be seeing any new content for the game; the team says that they have a few other things in the works, although none of them will be as big as the recent Warzone Firefight mode, which is the biggest co-op experience in Halo history. The scaling down of the DLC is sure to be a disappointment for fans, but it’s not unexpected given that Halo 5 was released last year and has been updated with new content for a longer period than most games. The good news is that this gives 343 more time to work on future Halo games. They’re already working with The Creative Assembly on the new RTS game Halo Wars 2, which deploys February 21, 2017, and you can bet that there will be more Halo titles in the not too distant future.
And speaking on endless sequels, the new Ghostbusters won’t be going out of business anytime soon. Sony Pictures is already planning to make multiple sequels to their new Ghostbusters movie, duh. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter (and not in a leaked email) producer Amy Pascal revealed that the new film series will be endless, yes endless, so expect the studio to keep cranking out sequels as long as they can. This shouldn’t surprise anyone. Remakes and reboots like the new Ghostbusters are made because their established brand recognition makes them more profitable, and the only thing Hollywood likes more than a profitable film is many profitable films. Meanwhile, director Paul Feig has prepared an extended cut of the film for its home video release later this year. Speaking with Collider, he says the first cut clocked in at more than 4 hours, which was trimmed down to just under 2 for the theatrical release. The extended home video cut will only be an extra 15 minutes though, so a lot is still being left on the cutting room floor. It remains to be seen just how successful the new Ghostbusters movie will be since it won’t be released in theatres until Friday. It’s already one of the most hated remakes of all time getting loads of online hate, and from professional critics it’s so far received mostly mediocre reviews. We haven’t seen it yet ourselves, but we’ll be sure you let you know what we think when we do.
Twentieth Century Fox isn’t going to wait much longer to take a gamble on their latest Marvel gambit. The big screen Gambit movie is about to lay its cards on the table. Speaking on That Hashtag Show, X-Men movie producer Simon Kinberg says that they plan to begin filming the Gambit solo movie in Spring 2017, which would put its theatrical release sometime in early-to-mid 2018. This time around, Gambit will be played by Channing Tatum, replacing Taylor Kitsch, who played him in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine. As for the director, the Gambit film will be helmed by Edge of Tomorrow’s Doug Liman, which seems like a perfect choice. Fox is keen to make as many new X-Men spin-offs as they can following the recent success of Deadpool, which is currently the second highest-grossing R rated film of all time. Speaking of which, Kinberg confirmed that the Deadpool sequel will begin shooting in early 2017 as well, so expect the merc with a mouth to return to theatres in Summer 2018.
Hollywood is taking on another video game. A TV series based on the Battlefield franchise is in the works. Variety reports that the rights were just picked up by Paramount Television and Anonymous Content, one of the production companies behind The Revenant, and they plan to turn the games into a serialized show with a strong emphasis on drama and storytelling. Hopefully that doesn’t backfire given that the story campaign is usually the weakest aspect of the Battlefield games. Publisher Electronic Arts is working with Paramount and Anonymous Content on the show, but there’s no word yet on what networks or streaming services might be interested in picking it up. We’ll keep you up to date on the latest intel. Over on the Western Front, the latest game in the series, Battlefield 1, will continue the fight on October 21. Click the link on your screen or in the description below to watch my first impressions of the game from the floor of E3.

lastly fallowing up on all of it

Pokémon GO began its launch last week and saying that it’s been successful is a bit of an understatement, as the game has helped Nintendo get its best one-day move for the stock since 1983, according to Bloomberg’s David Ingles. [Thanks, Business Insider.]

The above graphs show us just how much of a boost shares of Nintendo saw in early trading in Tokyo on Monday, where the shares saw a rise as high as 23% after it rose about 10% on Friday. According to Bloomberg, Nintendo shares climbed 34% in the past two trading days after the release of Pokémon GO.

According to The Wall Street Journal, the Pokémon GO hype train has added $9 billion in market value to Nintendo in just a few days.

Stocks aren’t the only thing that has been rising for Pokémon GO, as SimilarWeb gives us a look into how the game has been performing for Android and iOS, and it’s been doing just insanely well. On July 8, two days after the app’s release, Pokémon GO has been installed on 5.16% of all Android devices in the US.

To give you an idea how impressive that is, Pokémon GO already had more installments in the US than Tinder on July 7. The app has also been performing exceptionally well in app engagement with over 60% of those who have downloaded the app using it daily.

The Daily Active Users chart shows that the app is neck and neck with Twitter.

The above chart gives us a look at the usage time of Pokémon GO vs other social media apps, showing that it has bested WhatsApp, Instagram, Snapchat, and Messenger.

Pokémon GO is currently available in the US, Japan, Australia, and New Zealand. The app is expected to release in the UK, Europe, and other countries within the next coming days.

oh I better address this too since it was prior to your post today just now and it's more on topic of the NX . since this going down the path of what went down with saying the Nx was coming out this year when nintendo said all they'd was talk about it.

NX - Nintendo's Next Generation Hardware Concept ( Last Page)
:

Speaking in an interview Nintendo President, Tatsumi Kimishima has addressed and reaffirmed some of the previous statements he has made about the company’s upcoming console.

Kimishima says, “The NX is neither the successor to the Wii U nor to the 3DS, It’s a new way of playing games, which I think will have a larger impact than the Wii U, but I don’t feel it’s a pure replacement for the Wii U.” The claim addresses that the upcoming new console will outperform the Wii U in specs and the market.

Since Kimishima took the title as President of Nintendo, he has wanted to expand upon the hardware and not just create the same version of the box over and over. This addressed the previous issue that the 3DS and Wii U are just different versions of the consoles before them.
Additionally, in the same interview, Kimishima says the company is making moves to enter the film business. These will not be live-action films, but more anime-type movies featuring characters from various Nintendo IPs.

The NX will be released in March 2017 with a special reveal event happening sometime later this year.
Thanks, GSR.

EP Daily Rundown for July 20, 2016

There are loads of stories to talk about today, so gotta catch 'em all in the Rundown. We have the latest on Pokémon Go, a look at the next Godzilla movie, have some cool new details on the Nintendo NX, a new project from Zelda director Eiji Aonuma, rumours about the next Batman solo movie, a look at the new xXx movie with Vin Diesel, and finally, a glimpse at the combat in No Man’s Sky! It looks like Pokémon Go is continuing to catch everyone’s attention. According to the mobile analytics firm Sensor Tower, the augmented reality game has now been downloaded more than 30 million times, which makes it the fastest growing mobile game in history. It launched in the US, Australia, and New Zealand two weeks ago, and has since spread to other territories like Canada and Europe. Because it’s such a huge hit, it’s raking in the dough for The Pokémon Company and developer Niantic Labs, having already generated $35 million from in-game microtransactions. Nintendo, which owns a stake in The Pokémon Company and Niantic Labs, has seen its stock prices soar, and they’re now worth more than their arch-nemesis Sony. The numbers are only going to go up as Pokémon Go finds its way to new markets. It’s expected to be released in its home country of Japan in the next few days, where it’s likely to be more popular than ever. The developers are hoping to keep players interested by releasing regular updates for the game. The first big one will give players the ability to trade their pocket monsters with each other. Expect that in the coming weeks.
A famous Japanese monster is making a comeback, and this one doesn’t fit in your pocket. Take a look at the all-new Japanese Godzilla movie, called Godzilla Resurgence. It doesn’t have anything to do with the recent American Godzilla movie, and is instead a fresh reboot that looks and feels more like the classic Japanese films. Best of all, they even used a guy in a suit to create Godzilla, just like the old movies, although the filmmakers also employed modern techniques like CGI on top of that. This is the first Godzilla movie produced in Japan in more than a decade, and will hit theatres there next week. Hopefully it will be released in North America as well in the not too distant future. Meanwhile, Hollywood is working on a new Godzilla film of its own, which will be a sequel to the 2014 movie. That will smash theatres in 2019.
The person behind the recent Zelda games might be leaving Hyrule for a franchise of his own. Nintendo’s Eiji Aonuma, who’s directed all the big Zelda games since Majora’s Mask, is thinking about creating a new, original game. In a recent interview with Edge magazine, Aonuma hinted that he’s in the early stages of developing a new project where players live out their lives as a thief. He adds that Nintendo has been asking him to create an original IP, but they’ve also been telling him to make more Zelda games, so it’s unclear if his thief game idea will ever become a reality. Nintendo likes to take their time with projects, so don’t hold your breath. For now, Aonuma is working on The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. That will be released in early 2017 on the Wii U and Nintendo’s upcoming console, codenamed the NX.

And there’s a new reason to get excited about the Nintendo NX. Official details on the new system are scarce and it’s only been seen by a handful of people, but one of them is Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot. Speaking with investors, he says that the NX is looking great, and adds that he thinks it will help the industry grow by bringing in a lot of casual players. That’s pretty much exactly why the original Wii was such a hit, and what Nintendo failed to replicate with the Wii U. If Guillemot is right, this could mean that the NX will put Nintendo back on top of the console market. Ubisoft has a long history with Nintendo. They were one of the earliest third-party developers to embrace the Wii, which paid off big time, and they also had several launch titles for the Wii U, which were not so successful. If they’re already looking at the NX, it means we’ll likely see at least a few Ubisoft launch titles for the the console when it hits stores early next year.

Batman may be returning to Arkham Asylum. The next big screen Batman movie is rumoured to be set in and around the bad guy-infested insane asylum, which has already been the focus of many different comics, animated adventures, and video games. Citing anonymous sources, the fansite Batman-On-Film.com reports that screenwriters Ben Affleck and Geoff Johns are planning to set the film primarily inside Arkham, and that it will include many of the familiar Batman villains. The site also claims that the film won’t be a direct adaptation of the Arkham Asylum video games, although it will obviously be inspired by them and all the other Batman incarnations. As always, take these rumours with a heavy dose of skepticism until more details are unmasked.
The new Batman movie, whatever it’s about, will take place in the same universe as Batman v Superman, but we’ll try not to hold that against it. Along with co-writing the script and starring as the Caped Crusader, Affleck is also expected to direct.
