NX - Nintendo's Next Generation Hardware Concept

Well, I'll wait and see. The more I think about it the more excited I get. If it's around 200.. or 249.. That'll be even better.

I'm more interested in learning more about this (to play the new Zelda game anywhere I go) than I am in buying another PS4 for $400-$500+ with an incremental graphics upgrade.

It will be more than $250, the 3DSXL is still around $200, this will be combining their home consoles and portable into one. I think it will be around $350/$400.

No one will want something thats basically a hand held.. for 400.

It's not "basically" a handheld. It is a hybrid of the two that's their selling point and what they will push. It's both. That's why again they won't just make it 250, that's what the 3DS was and it was just a hand held. Even this sounds more powerful (in terms of previous Nintendo handhelds). The docking station, the controllers that come with it, it will be more than $250. Again it will probably be around $350.

true. Definitely will NOT be $200. One thing to consider is how they will package this. I could see a standalone handheld for $250 with a bundle that includes the controller attachment and docking station for $350

Yeah they may go that route too. Have different packages.

Maybe one at $400 that has two controllers, the docking station, NX and a game.

But honestly I don't think they will sell them separate, at least at first. I think to get the Japanese to buy them with both will be their goal, even though they will use it primarily for mobile gaming.

Until Nintendo's ****** advertisements make it out to look "basically" like a hand held.

great I get binto an accident and have make sure I don't have HEAD concussion and detail'S of the NX are out. well I'll check if there are any further updates OR CLEAR UPS

Like the touch with the Wii U and the motion control with the Wii that will be their selling point. That it is both a home console and portable. That will be the crux of their marketing.

well ok this does sound like what iwata stated sorta before his death but I doubt it'll just use cartiges only. anyways
I like what was stated here on EPN.TV I'm waiting for Nintendo to officially say something. And not doing the panic OF THE RUMOR MILL ESPECALLY SINCE the source's are hiding their names again.

some of it I'm sure are very on the noise. but it could half and half again. so I'm just gonna wait and do that thing when other's thought it was gonna be released this year due to other's say so and wait cause it's not any one officially from Nintendo.

EP Daily Rundown for July 26, 2016

Today in the Rundown, we examine the latest rumours about the Nintendo NX, have some great news for frugal fans of No Man's Sky, slash the price of the Xbox One, review the schematics of Star Trek's latest vessel, and finally, have a double dose of news from the galaxy far, far away!
It feels like every week there’s a new batch of rumours about the Nintendo NX… and here’s the latest. The upcoming Nintendo machine might be a cross between a stationary console like the Wii, and a handheld platform like the 3DS. Citing unnamed sources, Eurogamer reports that the NX will essentially be a handheld system that you can take with you on the go, and then when you get home, you’ll be able to connect it to a base station that turns it into a console for your TV.The site even claims to know what the NX will look like: it has a big touchscreen in the middle and detachable controllers on the side, kind of like a more elegant version of the Wii U gamepad. As for processing power, Eurogamer says the NX will be very powerful by handheld standards, but a little underpowered when compared to consoles like the PS4 and Xbox One. The lack of processing power might be concerning, but that’s never been a priority for Nintendo machines. These aren’t the first rumours that the NX will have some sort of handheld capability, so it seems likely, but don’t forget that Nintendo still hasn’t revealed any official details. All we know right now is that the NX will launch in early 2017 alongside the new Zelda game Breath of the Wild. Third-party publishers like Ubisoft and 2K have also started making games, and they’ve publicly stated that they’re very enthusiastic about the system.

From what I read, this sounds less like a hybrid to me, and more just like a handheld that has a HDMI port. I realize a lot of people say those things as their one and the same, but I always looked as a hybrid as a system that was specifically designed to be both a portable and home console device. Slapping a HDMI port on a handheld doesn't necessarily make it a home console replacement either.

I'm going to wait and see how Nintendo actually promote this before calling it a "hybrid." If this is Nintendo's only piece of hardware, it definitely makes me worry, though.

What would be the point of the "other" controls then? The ones you plug into the handheld?

And that is a bad selling point.

I pray to the Five gods of gaming to please let this console be an amazing device.

I am so happy I can get Breath of the Wild on the WiiU.

Guys...I more & more think the NX is to the WiiU as Scorpion is to XB1/Neo to PS4.

I said this a few weeks ago...my fears turn out to be true in many ways. This news is disappointing to me...no matter how anyone spin it. This is just a "reverse version" of the WiiU. That's why it is not a true successor or replacement...as Nintendo likes to reiterate time & time again.

I like Nintendo & their 1st Party games. I like some of the quirky, gimmicky game play they bring to the home console. Still, I was really looking forward to a powerful unit with a number of 3rd Party games, to go along with their quirky, gimmicky game play, on their great library of 1st Party games.

Hugely Disappointed

Nintendo has done the opposite. They have gone on record as saying the NX is not a successor/replacement for the Wii U

NINTENDO PRESIDENT: NX IS NOT THE SUCCESSOR "TO THE WII U NOR TO THE 3DS"

This thing doesnt merely connect via HDMI port on the handheld. There is a docking station and controllers, which comprise of the home console portion. If thats not a hybrid, I dont know what you really expected. For all intents and purposes, it sounds like a Wii U, you can take on the go. Theres speculation that the docking station will provide additional processing power. A handheld does not need to output 4K or even 1080p resolution but a seperate unit to handle that for display on HDTVs makes sense and could be what the "home console" portion of it would provide. People can look at it as a really powerful handheld or underpowered home console. Either way, its actually both

I think you may have misunderstood or misread what I said....I know they have "reiterated that claim time & time again." The fact is that exactly what the NX has become....a "reverse version" of the WiiU.

I know they pride themselves on being the indie hipstersof the console industry. Hopefully this pans out, as the years chip is pretty powerful.

Fair points, but obviously if they're going to have a handheld connect to a television, they will create more elaborate output options and controller options. I've already went into details previously what a hybrid concept would actually entail. I don't consider a handheld that simply connects to the television a true hybrid device, at least not one developed with a hybrid philosophy.

Like I said, I'm going to see how Nintendo markets it. If the primary message around it is simply, 'this is a handheld that you can plug into the TV,' that's what I'm basically going to look at it as. But if there's no other hardware from them that resembles a home console in some way and the message is 'this is both a handheld and console in one,' then I'll concede it's a true hybrid device.

If this launches at around $249 I'll be beyond happy. I was expecting to have to come up with $400 to get one of these things.
