I never got the "my city is better than your city" debates. NY and Chicago are both great in some ways, and totally suck in others.

The one truly annoying thing I've noticed about NY though, having lived in the NY metropolitan area for 20 years and then having moded, is how full of themselves NYers are. Chiacgo seems to have more fat people though.

It's all dem dere sauz-uh-juz 'n brats!

It started when some NY Times writer wrote, "Chicago is a nice little podunk town." Some took a tad offense to it. I also remember from the late Richard Jeni's comedy act, "Chicago was basically created when some guys from New York were like, "we really enjoy the crime and the poverty, but it just isn't cold enough."

I don't understand why this is a zero sum game. Why is it, "our city is great, so yours must suck?" I love both cities. I live in Chicago, so I personally like it better but there are tons of positives and negatives to both places. They're actually quite different. New York is straight big city, no chaser. Chicago is like a small-town-big-city. Despite it's size, the people are definitely Midwest styled in how they act and treat people. I like the people of New York, more than most NYC visitors would claim, but they still have this air about them, like their city is just untouchable, which I think is a little over the top. We think we have a great city, but don't begrudge anyone for disagreeing.

Chicago is the ****, my favorite city...

Plus when I'm walking down the streets, I feel like I'm in Gotham :O

Nerd-gasm.
