Now, I know there's already the thread about which real world city being Gotham, and I was getting ready to post this when I saw that, and I thought, "Damn it!" But I'm going to expnad on it...
Growing up I always saw Gotham as a NY type city whereas Metropolis was somewhere outside of Smallville, Kansas. Even in the Burton/Shumacher films, Gotham was the fictional equivalent of NYC. Also, when people in the real world talk about NYC, they sometimes call it Gotham. But in the Year One and beyond mythos in the comics, Gordon had transferred from Chicago, which makes it more believeable that it's near Chicago. And with the last few movies being filmed there, I relate to it more as Chicago, and with Superman Returns placing Metropolis in NYC, I guess that's how I see it now.
Now, how do you like your Gotham?
-As a fictional version of New York?
-As a fictional version of Chicago?
-Or a city that exists in the same world as these other cities and possibly neighbors one of the two?
My personal preference is that is Chicago. I used to like it being NYC. I can't see Chicago and NYC existing with Gotham and Metropolis because I just don't see all this big cities all together.
Forgive me if you think this is too much like the other thread, but I had been planning to do this for a while
Peace,
Fro
