Matthew Ellis is the current President of the United States of America in the MCU. But this show seems to mention Barack Obama a lot. Can somebody explain that? What do you think?

I think it's just another lazy oversight by people who want to keep claiming that "everything is connected" without actually putting any effort into making the connections.

Simple explanation: Obama was a one term president. Ellis got elected in 2012 post Battle of New York, on a wave of 'oh ****, we need a hardcore national security president!'

Stuff falls through the cracks. Obama's biography is clearly seen in Cap's apartment in TWS.

It's clearly possible Obama could've been president at some point before Ellis. I'm not seeing a problem here.

President Obama was never actually mentioned in any context before 2013 in Iron Man 3 when Ellis was revealed as the president.

There were vague references, such as Tony Stark joking about transparency, one of Obama's buzz words when he came into office in Iron Man 2. Iron Man 2 also shows him getting an Iron Man portrait that's designed like the famous Obama one that became famous during his election bid.

We can assume that Obama lost to President Ellis in the 2012 election in the MCU timeline?

Probably. But even if he didn't, is it such a big deal?

Let's keep in mind, Obama held office before he was president. He was a senator of Illinois first. People already started talking about him as a prospect in 2004 because he was a fresh face and well spoken.

Its possible Obama was never president in the MCU despite running, but was still a high profile political figure.

The biography we see in TWS isn't focused on his presidency, and the IM2 poster just means that he ran.
