The scene where he's shooting with two SMG's upside down still pisses me off.

It's cliched, not to mention from a character stand point he leaves himself open. If some goombah is a crack shot, he'd be ****ed.

Fire hydrant antics aside, pretty much everything Frank did in the '04 film was tactical and had a point.

While I guess it can be viewed as "tactical", it was incredibly boring and a bit of a letdown. As much as I think the hanging from the chandalier is stupid, I'd much rather see that than watch an hour of Frank planting earings and fire hydrants and blackmailing dudes with gay photos.

I kinda equate it with 2003's Hulk, in that they both took stories that could have been really obvious and tried something different with them. There are problems with it, but I respect what was trying to be done. The direction and performances were good (even Travolta managed to not be over the top, though in hindsight it may have help, I don't know), it just needed a better budget.

A bigger budget still don't mean good film, look at Ghost rider,Resident evil movies,Superman returns,Hulk 03 etc.Atleast PWZ took care of their mistakes before the movie started filming(with rewrites etc). The movie was made for us the Punisher fan.DEC 5TH THE PUNISHER BEGINS.......:unishr::bh::brucebat:

Still waiting for LGF to start paying you for every time you say that?
Yeah they should pay me,I must have said it about 100 times LOL!. But I'll do it for free because I love the Punisher:)So DEC 5TH THE PUNISHMENT BEGINS.......PS where's the hell my paycheck LGF LOL!:hehe:

In this case, it would have helped immensely. Some action scenes had to be cut or cut down (like the Harry Heck car chase). Plus bigger budget would have meant they could have had it take place in "New York". War Zone still has the same bad director with the same bad story.

And Hulk '03 is a good movie.

It looks fake, I've seen better fake heads in cheap horror movies.

Nothing tops Tom Savini's head being blown off in Maniac.
I thought Tom top himself when he did The Prowler exploding head scene:yay::grin:DEC 5TH THE PUNISHMENT BEGINS........

You are very wrong the 04 film still would had fail if it had 100 million dollar budget.Because the director didn't try to understand the character that's why.Hensleigh script just sucked and his Punisher 2 script was 20 times awful. How in the hell do you **** up twice? And the 03 Hulk suck harder then Paris Hilton on a hot summer day LOL!DEC 5TH THE REAL PUNISHMENT BEGINS.......

Outside of the changed origin, I thought he understood the character very well. Castle is a broken man, and the 2004 movie did a good job showing that, the tone and the performances were pretty ****ing top. Alexander thinks Castle can't be gritty or real, because he's a COMIC BOOOOOK!!!

His sequel script had it's problems, but I thought it was better than the the Lexi draft.

Thomas Jane was trained by SEALS for the '04 movie, and that's why the fight scenes looked better. This isn't the Matrix, taking the time to make the fight scenes believable is a must.

Jane had basically a year of training, all Stevenson had was a few months. This movie was just so rushed, they obviously didn't give a **** about realism or believability.

Stevenson has do few months of training because he was Titus Pullo in "Rome"...Well, i can say a hard muscle character. So, the training isn't necessary with Stevenson. He's big.
Well...Jane...Before "The Punisher"...He has act only...In...Comedy...Or horror movie...And he was...little...And the training was necessary...If he's not training, we have now a "Punisher" movie with a Smurfs.

Stevenson was getting a bit pudgy towards the end of Rome, you can be big and out of shape. Besides packing on muscle, he had a longer time training with Navy SEALs; weapons, hand to hand etc... than Stevenson.

I really could care less how long each of them trained; Stevenson looks the part more than Tom Jane does, IMO.

You've seen Green Street Hooligans right? And you don't see anything wrong with some of performances in it?

yep. what's wrong with the performances? it's not the greatest film by far i'll agree but i just feel like lexi is more of the visionary director and personally i'm more for indy and arthouse directors. hensleigh is captain hollywood cliche, he's been around forever writing and producing and he should really stick with that. he took the punisher and it turned it into a basic revenge story. the graveyard sequence alone from the warzone redband trailer looks more emotional and dramatic than anything that happened in the 04 punisher.

What really? You liked his script?I'm sorry I can't believe that,he had to be high to write that piece of **** of a script.I'm mean give me a ****ing break, that ****e ****ed up once and he was working on doing it twice. And I agree with you the Punisher can be done in a realistic way.But so could SINCITY,THE SPRIT,WATCHMEN and 300 etc.The director's decided to make them just like the comics and I don't see anything wrong with that:)So that's what Lexi is doing with PWZ to make more like the MAX and classic Punisher comics.

Well, considering the people Hensleigh has worked with, The Punisher was a complete 360 from his other movies. He shot it like it was a film in the '70s; no flashy camera/editing tricks or slow motion. The movie relied on good shot composition and good performances, the script just needed a better budget.

But thinking about, The Punisher is going always going to be a bit cliched with the films. The 2004 film had it's cliched moments, War Zone is sure as hell goig to have plenty of them too. But Jane, God bless him tried his damnedest to get a script that wasn't cliched. Though I think if Stuart Beattie had stayed on and wrote a complete script, and they got Walter Hill to shoot it, that would have been ideal.

As for emotion in the '04, I don't know I think it's pretty gut wrenching when he sees the lifeless bodies of his wife and son. Their was a lot of emotion on his face while he was clutching them.

After that the film takes a depressing tone, which I think a Punisher movie should have.
