Remakes should only be done IMO when the game has aged very, very poorly like Metal Gear Solid and Resident Evil.

Also, keep in mind that Iwata himself said that they're releasing this as a "hold over" game.

By the looks of things the next Zelda game is going to take place in that era of Hyrule.. They showed off a few areas from the new game that was right out of TWW.

I agree about a LttP remake.

I personally wouldn't want to see LTTP remade. So much of the charm of that game and JRPGs from that era, for me anyway, comes from the simplistic art style and overhead view.

For the record, Rare as a company disbanded long before it went to Microsoft. Most if the creative talent who worked on the greats went on to form Free Radical and make Timesplitters. From memory, Starfox Adventures was the first game made by the watered down Rare.

Wind Waker was ridiculously criticallly acclaimed by just about everyone

Meh, I preferred how it looked on the GameCube, if you're going to with the cartoony style, you gotta make it look cartoony. At least Sony kept Sly Cooper looking cartoony with the PS3 incarnation of Sly. Wind Waker HD on the other hand just looks kinda soulless.

And I feel about Wind Waker HD the same way I do about Ocarina of Time 3D and the inevitable Majora's Mask remake......yawn. I already played these games and I honestly like the old timey graphics. But to make it even worse is that the Wind Waker has aged very well thanks to it's graphical style and it being on the GameCube, while you could at least make an argument justifying the Ocarina of Time remake. Call me stupid, but I had no idea a Windwaker HD as announced for Wii U! In fact I am stupid for overlooking it! I got a email from Zelda Universe a while ago and just went WHAAAAAAAAAAA

The game thankfully isn't a lazy upscale. It looks like they reworked a lot of the game. The comparison shots from IGN show the detail and shadowing. It looks great and will be a must have title for me.

I need to get a dang Wii U...

I can't wait to see what other GCN HD titles they announce. Although I have the MP trilogy on Wii, I'd buy a HD Collection in a heartbeat.

Not as much as Ocarina of Time which Im always hearing is considered by most as the greatest game ever made, not to mention the most highest rated on Metacritic

They already remade Ocarina of Time for the 3DS. There's been speculation and/or rumors that they will give Majora's Mask the same treatment. Miyamoto also mentioned the possibility of a Link to the Past sequel last year. A remake of that is probably not in the near-future since it already got a GBA port.

Personally, I'd like to see them remake Zelda II to make it fit into the franchise more. It's a game I'd really like to play and finish but can never really get far into. It tries to be an Action/Adventure and RPG game but doesn't excel as either one.

I think remaking Wind Waker is a good idea. There was a lot of criticism about it because of the cel-shading. However, people have warmed up to it over the years. It's a great way to get people to realize how great it is, especially since the WiiU doesn't have GC compatibility. I would have settled for it being ported to the eShop/Virtual Console.

Well...We know they don't just mean "MiiVerse" since that was stated separately. I'll just be happy to have my inventory, I assume, on the gamepad.

Ocarina of Time started out as a remake of ALTTP.

Miyamoto apparently considers ALTTP to be the best in the series. He's talked about remaking it quite a few times. It may still happen.

I don't know about best, but it's certainly the most prototypical.

Arguably so. Though Ocarina of Time made it into an epic experience. For the time, anyway.

Had to be there to experience it.

You just don't have such a stark difference between games, as going from 2D to 3D for the first time. That in and of itself is one reason why Ocarina of Time will always stand out amongst Zelda's.
