Man this year I'm gonna be spending a lot of money on games.

I love this, but dang, I'm gonna be busy from Sept-December.

I mean I got

The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Donkey Kong Country Returns
Metal Gear Rising
Gran Tursimo 5
Castlevania: Lord of Shadows
Fallout New Vegas
PS Move

And I'm sure more I forgot. Good times to be a gamer for sure.

Kid Icarus: Uprising, The Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Metal Gear Rising, and Donkey Kong Country Returns for me :D

I love Zelda and will play this. But the art direction for the first time ever is...meh.

I know it is technically graphically (if minimally so) superior to TP and WW. But a combo of the styles just looks kind of ugly. In TP, an upgrade really of the OOT/MM style, it just felt "right." It was the perfect look for Zelda, honestly (even if it is not the best game in the series). WW was a departure, but in its own quirky way, it felt right. And visually it was jaw dropping and still is.

This just looks...meh. Honestly.

We have only seen one area though. If it's the Sky World, that may be more bright and cheery than Earth (?). I think people will warm up to it eventually as they have WW.

I think the environment looks great from what we saw (and I heard that the demo level was created just for that), I can't wait to see all the locations. I just hope Gerudo Valley is back... that's always been my favorite Zelda song.

Link looks totally out of place in this game's world. The monsters look like something from Cartoon Network but Link looks like he's from an anime. The world is really simple looking, too. I have a feeling that originally this game was intended to be a sequel to Wind Waker featuring Toon Link, but then some bozo mandated that they had to make him look more like in Twilight Princess because adult!Link is more popular. Now we're stuck with something in between Twilight Princess and Wind Waker that doesn't really have the appeal of either. I would have much prefered that they either pushed further in the direction of a realistic world like TP, or gone all out with the cartooniness like in WW.

imagine Legend of Zelda with Final Fantasy XIII graphics......... oooooooo

It would be nice but it's not happening for at least another 5 years.

I can't believe people are still whining about the graphics. With Zelda I'm more concerned with great gameplay and an epic story. Maybe it's just me though :o

Zelda gameplay has gotten very stale. I'm not convinced that adding directional sword attacks and wiisports bowling to the game really improve it all that much.

All the talk prior to revealing this made it sound like they were really going to try something new... but I doubt it's actually going to escape the tired Zelda formula.

I don't know, I like Zelda, but I'm definitely not very excited for this.

Mario has been the same since SM64. GTA has been the same since the PS2. Every current gen FPS is the same. Why do people demand that every Zelda be some new, revolutionary experience with every release?

Galaxy has been a big leap forward for the Mario franchise. Nintendo has been smart by releasing things like NSMB and NSMBW alongside trying something different with the franchise in Galaxy and Galaxy 2.

GTAIV was an incredibly refined experience with some of the best storytelling in the gaming industry.

Bioshock, Modern Warfare, Borderlands and Fallout 3 are all very different current gen FPS games.

Twilight Princess was very underwhelming for me, and just this year there were two blatant Zelda-like games released (Darksiders and 3D Dot Game Heroes). Nintendo needs to do what Rockstar did after San Andreas came out and there were a flood of clones on the market. They need to take a step back and take a risk cutting out things fans have grown accustomed to and really do something different and focus on bettering the franchise.

Doing something new isn't exactly Nintendo's strength, but it's what they need to do to get me interested in another Zelda game. The new art style does not look like watercolor come to life (Prince of Persia is a much better example), it just looks like a less good Twilight Princess. And aside from adding in some Wii Sports Resort style controls, I don't think they are going to live up to the hype they themselves created by hinting that this game would be something different.

It's early, and there isn't much info on Skyward Sword yet, but as of now it just looks to me like what they wanted Twilight Princess to be before they realized the wiimote didn't work as well as advertised. Wind Waker was the last breath of fresh air in the franchise, and I loved it.

*sigh* apparently stupid ol' Nintendo isn't going to have voice overs in this, AGAIN. I'm sure they'll make a lot of complacent fanboys happy, but I am not, because I felt like that was one of the biggest things holding back Twilight Princess from being an instant classic (even though it was still a kick ass game). Aonuma says it's because he doesn't want Link to talk, and that if Link stayed silent while everyone else had voice overs it wouldn't work. Apparently, he either hasn't played Half-Life, Oblivion, Dragon Age, or pretty much any games from the Western hemisphere that has a silent protagonist with voice acted NPCs, or he's just making excuses to hide a different reason (my guess: $$$).

Oh well, rather than rant about how Nintendo is holding back Zelda's potential, what voice actors would you most like to hear in a Zelda game?

For me, my top pick would be Jennifer Hale as Zelda. Seriously, I would swoon if I heard Zelda speaking with her voice. For now, I'll have to be content with listening to voice clips of her while looking at Zelda's picture. :waa: :hrt:

Keith David would seriously own as Ganon. Ganon would likely pick up a few new lady fans, as well.

As for Link, he does not need to have dialogue. You can pretty easily avoid having a main character speak even in games with voice overs like Half-Life, and it's especially common in dialogue heavy games like RPGs where the player picks their responses. However, if Nintendo decided that a voice was necessary for Link, Will Friedle would be a good guy to get the job done.

Nintendo NOT changing their old formula? Are you really surprised Timstuff? Nintendo doesn't have the balls to screw around with a proven formula.

Which is a shame, because I always thought voice overs could really work. If they had subtitled voice overs, either in Japanese or fictional 'Hylian', that would be awesome and lend so much more credibility to it. I've always seen alot of overlap between Zelda games and Hiyo Miyazaki films (especially Princess Mononoke and Twilight Princess), so I think approaching a zelda game in much the same way, from a narrative point of view, would work really well, not to mention make the series seem fresh and different.

The problem with gibberish is that it gets annoying after a while, and in a particularly big game like a Zelda title, I'd probably find myself wanting to turn it off after a while. In Okami, it got really irritating after a while, and for some people they say it almost ruined the game. Personally, I think the best way to go would be to hire high quality voice actors and a VO director who knows what they're doing. There are plenty out there, and Nintendo just needs to pony up the dough. Link is probably best left silent, but everyone else should be voice acted.

Yeah, totally agreed. Voice overs for NPC's AT LEAST.

I'm still not entirely sold on this game. I mean, of course i'm gonna play it, from the name Zelda alone, but if it leaves me feeling underwhelmed that might be it for me and Nintendo. They just don't really do it for me anymore.

Zelda's gibberish is nothing compared to Okami. Zelda they just say something a bit regardless of how long their text is. Okami they made noises all the time as they were talking.

I don't mind the lack of voice actors, but I'm tired of defending all the Zelda hate. Other M is using voice acting, maybe the success of that would convince Nintendo to do it with Zelda.

Jennifer Hale would be a good Zelda. I would want her to do a voice similar to Bastila's from KOTOR.

For Ganondorf, I'd go with David Kaye. Have him do his Megatron voice but deeper and more sinister.

Zelda with a british accent could work quite nicely as well. Honestly, I could see her voice working either way, so long as Hale is doing her voice. I really like the idea of Zelda sounding very mature for her age. Since she's the holder of the Triforce of Wisdom she has wisdom far beyond her years, and since she's also a princess I'd expect her to speak in a very regal, mature voice.

Ganondorf is a lot harder to cast for me. I can't think of anyone who matches what I imagine his voice to sound like. Keith David has the deep voice but he usually sounds the same in what I've heard.

Kaye's Megatron probably sounds the closest with a bit of tweaking to it. And speaking of Megatron, I'm sure Frank Welker could do something good as he does so much.

But this is why you hold auditions. Who would have ever thought Mark Hamill would have the absolute perfect voice for Joker?

I just realized who could do a good Ganondorf, Clancy Brown. His Hades from GoW3 is similar to what I'd imagine Ganondorf.

It'd definitely time for voice acting. I've heard Nintendo's reasons for not doing it again, and I just don't buy it. Zelda's so cinematic already, that would really complete it. The lack of voice acting is really the only thing I'm disappointed about right now.

Dang, I never thought of that! Lex Luthor as Ganon could be quite awesome as well. :)

It would. Maybe make him sound more pissed off so there's a distinction between Ganondorf and Luthor. Kevin Michael Richardson does a lot of deep voiced characters, too. Between them 2 and David, I'm sure one has a good Ganondorf voice.

The only other recurring character is Tingle. Who should voice him? :hehe:
