Is it possible to maybe clean up that last paragraph? Everything ran together like that makes it very hard to read what is what. But that's not a horrible number for one week in Japan, especially for a console game.

EDIT: Well, it's not great either, but I don't think it's quite as bad as the article makes it out to be.

I read on another site it was 78k sold in the first week.

Either way that's not a bad start. I mean a lot of people were wondering if it'd make 100k in a MONTH, and by the time we get it, it'll have done that in Japan alone!

I say if it makes 1m lifetime worldwide that's pretty cool. It will most likely come down to US, but this not a bad start by any means!

Ok I broke up as mush as I could it was a list of the sales it's just it was in blocked gridded spread sheet form and it doesn't translate well here on forum in a copy & paste format.

70-80k for a console title in Japan is quite good for just a week.

Hyrule Warriors’ Bug Fixes Are Almost Done, Along With A Little New Mode. August 22, 2014 . 9:01am

Hyrule Warriors is getting a minor update soon.

Shortly after Hyrule Warriors released in Japan, the game’s official Twitter shared a message about long term updates and fixes for bugs. They recently updated Twitter with a new message on the fixes and it looks like there’s already a little extra in store for the fans.

Here’s what the tweet reads: “The confirmed bugs have mostly been dealt with, and development for the update that adds a little bit of a new mode, is now complete. Currently, we are doing checks before the delivery. We’re working on getting it out to you guys as soon as possible! Please wait just a little longer!”

As previously reported, Nintendo and Koei Tecmo are planning long-term updates along with a large-scale mode expansion. The new mode mentioned in the recent tweet is likely something on a much smaller scale, but it sounds like we’ll find out what it is in the near future.

Hyrule Warirors is slated for release on September 19 in Europe and September 26 in North America for Wii U.

Hyrule Warriors Sold Through Just 57% Of Its Shipment In Japan. August 22, 2014 . 4:02pm

Hyrule Warriors sold through just 57.33% of its shipment at launch in Japan.

Hyrule Warriors was released in Japan last week, and the game sold 69,090 copies in its first week. Japanese sales tracker Media Create reported today that the game sold through just 57.33% of its shipment.

As we stated in our previous report on the subject, trying to compare Hyrule Warriors to other Warriors spin-offs in Japan is a little pointless. For starters, the other collaborative Warriors games are all based on popular franchises, such as One Piece or Gundam. That leads to opening sales figures like the ones below:

One Piece Pirate Warriors: 655,774
First of the North Star: Ken’s Rage: 385,295
Dynasty Warriors: Gundam Reborn: 126,019

The Legend of Zelda—at least on home consoles—is nowhere near as popular as any of the aforementioned franchises, seeing as how they’re all multimedia properties with a great deal of public awareness about them. While the portable Zelda games start out fairly strong and consistently sell over 500,000 copies in the long run, the console titles are often much slower burners in comparison.

Hyrule Warriors is also nothing like your traditional Zelda game. It plays just like any other Warriors game for the most part (albeit with a few Zelda-inspired touches thrown in), which means that it isn’t necessarily something that would appeal to the Zelda audience, which is more keen on exploration and puzzle-solving.

Gameplay is especially important to Zelda, since it is a videogame franchise, first and foremost. Unlike franchises like Gundam and One Piece that are more reliant on their characters and stories, Zelda relies primarily on its characteristics as a videogame. Thus, a change in genre, even when dealing with a spin-off title, can have quite the effect.

The Wii U having a low userbase—around 1.8 million units in Japan—doesn’t help either. Perhaps Hyrule Warriors would have found a larger audience more quickly after the actual Zelda game for Wii U had had a chance to attract fans of the franchise to the Wii U. It should be interesting to see if the game does any better in the West, where The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD has close to 1 million copies.

Sales data acquired from past Media Create archives.

You know, honestly, these two articles you posted from Siliconera in regards to sales seem a bit off to me. Like I said, it's not a great number, but nearly 70k in one week for a console title in Japan is pretty solid. Especially considering how the Zelda franchise isn't popular, and it launching on a single machine as opposed to multiple ones that had been around longer. Not really familiar with the website, but it makes me curious if they're actually all that aware of the very weak console market in the region.

But anyway, I'm curious about this new mode thing. I would if Europe and NA will get that mode prepackaged then?

Siliconera is looked up other news sites as a source though I stated this before once. they all head to them so. now when it comes to Zelda japan has been weird lately cause the last big Zelda to them or most people you seem to ask was before majura's mask and all others aren't as good it seem's they are mostly into hand held's now cause most of them are on the go so much these days. this is to be expected they did this cause most the people o their comments ad forum we're in freak out mode.

oh modes I'm sure we'll pick up the new mode what ever it is

So, what are you saying, that other news sites reference Siliconera? Weird. Never heard of them before you started posting their articles in the hype. Though, I don't keep up with gaming news as much as I used to, so I don't know who the top people are anymore.

you can do a search through kotaku, joystiq, EPN.TV ,GI ,IGN ETC and you'll find their name in articles if you really look and I was seeing them when I was in my mid 20's and I'm in mid 30's now. so... people that have become tired of places like kotaku or what ever issue they have with IGN run to ether there or any other place aIGNd they heard of at least once. the only reason I use them, is cause so far they put out alot of news first and those Don't meet posters or commentor's that are just there to have flame wars.

Don't know how long the latter will last that seems to be a problem only mostly on IGN but it's the news mostly with that site.

Spent the evening playing Twilight Princess. I think it might just be one of my favorite Zelda games. I had on the Wii for awhile, but hated the controls. Picked up a gamecube copy and I'm having a ball.

Hyrule Warriors Ver. 1.2 Update Adds Challenge Mode, Fixes Bugs. August 27, 2014 . 9:00am

On September 1st, Koei Tecmo will release a minor update for Hyrule Warriors in Japan.

On September 1st, Koei Tecmo will release the update for Hyrule Warriors that they recently mentioned over Twitter. This update will fix a variety of bugs in the game, and will add a Challenge Mode to the game. It also gives Link a new 8-bit-style sword, whcih you can see in the screenshots of the update below.

The patch will update Hyrule Warriors to version 1.2.0. Note that this is primarily an update for bug fixes, and that some sort of larger update with more content for the game is in development, too. That will be released at a later point in time.

Challenge Mode:

A new Sword weapon for Link:

BGM Setting feature:
This feature allows you to change what music plays during a particular mission.

Whether or not this update will be included in the base game when Hyrule Warriors releases in the West hasn’t been announced yet. The game will be available in North America on September 26th and in Europe on September 19th.

Lol, yeah, it's pretty goofy. Warriors games have goofy **** like that. I know DW had stuff like teddy bears and tennis rackets in it. I wonder if we'll get the challenge mode packaged in or if it'll be like a day one DLC? Doesn't matter to me as long as it's free.

I'm liking the DLC plans Nintendo seems to be having. Really need to get a hard drive.

Koei Tecmo Ponder If They Should Have Included Female Link In Hyrule Warriors. August 28, 2014 . 8:15am

“Linkle was a rejected story character featured in the art book, but it looks like she got a quite lot of attention,” Koei Tecmo said over Twitter.

It’s already been two weeks since the release of Hyrule Warriors in Japan, and in addition to promptly fixing bugs and adding small updates, it looks like Koei Tecmo are staying close to the fan base on Twitter.

They recently shed a little light on a tentative female Link character—referred to as “Linkle”—that was included in the Hyrule Warriors artbook in Japan. You can see an image of her above.

Here’s what Koei Tecmo said in their latest tweet: “Linkle (tentative name) was a rejected story character featured in the art book, but it looks like she got a quite lot of attention… maybe we should have included her in the main story…”

This is not the first time that the idea of a female depiction of Link has been brought up. Speaking with Edge magazine, Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma commented on the fact that the Link shown in trailer for the new Legend of Zelda on Wii U looked somewhat effeminate.

Aonuma remarked, “Rather unexpectedly, after I mentioned that no one had explicitly said that it was Link [in the trailer], this speculation spread online and seems to have led to the idea that the main character will be a girl.”

He added, “However, this reaction from the fans is something I would like to take into consideration as we proceed with development—although that doesn’t mean that we are going to change the main character to a girl.”

Meanwhile, in a tweet prior to the one above, Koei Tecmo stated: “Hyrule Warriors is expected to get its 1.2.0 update on September 1. We’ll have a [more] major update for it sometime after, but what if (with a lot of emphasis on the ‘what if’) we said ‘a playable character will be added’. Who would you like to see?”

Hyrule Warriors is slated for release on September 19 in Europe and September 26 in North America for Wii U.

God, I hated reading about that, just because it seemed to bring out all that "Link should be female, you should be able to chose" stuff. Not that I'm against that viewpoint per say, but it's such a moot point since Link isn't actually a character.

I'm liking the DLC plans Nintendo seems to be having. Really need to get a hard drive.

I'm not a fan of how Hyrule Warriors DLC has been setup, but I'm willing to bet it was more influenced by Koei-Tecmo, since it seems more in line with their DLC practices.

I hope more males make it in I have no issue with this, hell they can make the female one links sister for this series and have both there that way at least won 't that kind of harem thing

Hell the can name her Linka like the character character from captain planet for all I care cause their parents thought it sounded cute for some reason to have their twins named similarly

Hyrule Warriors To Get Day One Update In North America With New Mode. August 29, 2014 . 6:00am

Nintendo of America confirmed this morning that Hyrule Warriors will be supported “in the long run” with this additional content in the West as well

Earlier, Koei Tecmo teased that they’re working on a major update for Hyrule Warriors in Japan, and Nintendo of America confirmed this morning that Hyrule Warriors will be supported “in the long run” with this additional content in the West as well.

The first update to the game, however, will be the smaller “Ver. 1.2.0″ update that is being released in Japan on September 1st. This update will be available in North America on September 26th, as a day-one update when the game launches, and will add a Challenge Mode, an 8-bit sword weapon for Link, and a BGM options menu.

More details on this update can be found in this report from earlier.

Nintendo have also confirmed that the various pre-order costumes for Zelda, Link and Ganon will be made available as paid DLC via the Nintendo eShop at a later point in time, and that they will announce price details in the future.

Welp, that answers that. I can't believe some people had any doubt that the costumes would come to the eShop.

Had a feeling they'd let us download the costumes later. Pretty cool.
