Nothing holds it value like a Nintendo game. New Super Mario Bros for the original DS is still going for somewhere around $26 at Gamestop.

Yeah and honestly I don't mind it too much because their games are great! I remember Super Smash Bros. Melee NEVER dropped in price, but it was worth it.

That's part of why they hold their value. You can pop in the original Paper Mario and still have an absolute blast. The original Call of Duty? Probably hasn't aged well. A great game is a great game.

No GsmeStop in my area has the statue edition of MM available. They can't even do the online thing anymore. Luckily they're all my friends.. All the stores expect to get more available before it hits and will preorder one for me.. Then they'll cancel and I'll pick up their saved reserve.

I gotta go suck up to my local gamestop to see about a pre-order

Well, Hyrule Warriors is addictive. There is not a whole lot to the game, but it is very entertaining. Convinced me to pick up a hard drive so I can get the DLC.

Tried to pre-order that fancy Majora's Mask thing. Dude at Gamestop said they were completely sold out. He did say that Gamestop is wanting to do something about all the scalpers turning around and selling them on ebay, and that they should have more preorders soon. Dunno what that means, but I hope I can get this thing ordered.

Yep, it seems that is the general consensus now. For a brief period of time, you could pre-order through Gamestop with their "Warehouse" thing by buying in-store and having it ship to your home (you had to pay full price up front, though, which kind of sucked, but whatever). Seems most people are saying they are even out of that option as well.

People have pointed out something really similar happened with Wind Waker HD, the limited edition with the Ganon figure. They ended up opening pre-orders back up for a brief period not long before release. It's probably a safe bet that'll happen with this, too. You just have to be ready to pounce when it comes back.

If you didn't get a chance to pre-order the Majora's Mask LE, and on the chance that it does not return, there is hope. One of the retailers who will carry the LE will be Frys. They are not doing pre-orders of any kind, digital or in-store, and will only carry them in-store when the game releases. So, when release comes, you might want to look for a local Frys if you didn't get a pre-order in

The solution is rather simple; limit sales to one per customer. I go to a lot of deal websites, and on the forums a lot of them brag about buying 4 or more, just so they can sell them on eBay. Nintendo could also announce that the pre-orders are coming up to give people who have day jobs a chance.

This really sucks for actual fans.

Unfortunately, limiting one item is a retailer decision. It sucks, but I really don't expect any retailer to go out of their way to change this. I guess Nintendo could put some type of stipulation to it, though, but I don't really know how enforceable it would be.

I really don't have a problem with the way in which they announced it. It was announced in advance. The real problem is how little stock they are apparently putting out. All of it would be solved if they just kept the listing and stock open for an extended period. But there's apparently rumors going around that it'll actually hit this February, in which case they can't do that well. But if that's true, then they should've announced it much earlier.

I got two Fry's Electronics near me. If I can't get the pre-order, I'll definitely hunt it down there.

Seems crazy if it comes out next month to not yet have a release date.

Nintendo has exceedingly been keeping release date announcements to the wire. For instance, we didn't actually know until the month of October and November when the actual release dates were for Bayonetta 2 or Super Smash Bros U, respectability, which is why a lot of people were convinced Smash was going to get delayed to 2015. I want to say they only dropped the MK8 date like a month beforehand as well.

I don't know how reliable it is, though. Apparently, comes from some guy who is high up in a retailer chain who has dropped vague hints about it and the New 3DS NA launching around the same time frame. Could be crap, but the dude has a good record they say.

Well, not announcing a date for a game is one thing, but a console? That just seems like bad marketing 101.

Eh, well, from the people who brought us the likes of 3DS, Wii U, and New 3DS, I wouldn't be surprised if some of them did flunk marketing 101.

Besides, I don't think Nintendo is treating it as a new handheld. Some people thought it would be more akin to the Gameboy Color, but it seems like it's more akin to the DSi. It's another revision, just a fancier than average one. The 2DS announcement and release date were only 2 months apart, if I recall correctly.

Sort of seems to be skirting the line between revision and new console. I have trouble finding any reliable data, but everything I've read suggests that it is significantly more powerful.

Then again, I suppose the DSI was as well, but it was a flash in the pan, and I don't recall any DS games that were exclusive for it. They had games with DSI exclusive features, but they still worked on the other DS'. And they kept selling the DS Lite.

Still, the 2DS was just a kid friendly variant of the 3DS, this to me seems rather risky. I can only imagine the confusion this is going to cause at stores for the target consumer (i.e. parents and kids).

Technically, the DSi had dozens of exclusive games, since only DSi hardware could access DSiWare downloadable games. I don't recall any retail games that were exclusive to it, but I I'm not sure what you mean by it being a "flash in the pan." What you described is the same thing with the New 3DS with games like Codename: S.T.E.A.M and Monster Hunter 4 supposedly having features exclusive to the New 3DS, but all playable on the older 3DS models.

So far, there's been a total of 1 exclusive game announced for the New 3DS, and it doesn't even have a release date despite the New 3DS already launching in Nintendo's second biggest market (and Australia) and soon for Europe and possibly North America.

I foresee us getting the New 3DS by summer. At least I hope. I also hope they bring Xenoblade Chronicles on the 3DS to the US as well. Freakin' love that game.

With Shulk in Smash and Xenoblade Chronicles X confirmed (I think?) for a NA release, I'd sure they will [blackout]as a Gamestop exclusive[/blackout]

Flash in the pan meaning that it was successful but only around briefly. The DSi never fully replaced the DS Lite, which Nintendo kept selling for several more years (the original DS was discontinued a year after the Lite came out).

By comparison, the 3DS is already ending production in Japan, and is apparently in the process of being discontinued in the West (though the fate of the 2DS is less clear).

Well, there's been ambiguity about whether or not the OG 3DS will cease production, but fair point. However, I think it's not really a fair comparison, considering the proportional success of the DS to the 3DS, producing stock of another DS model was probably safer than keeping models of the less successful 3DS. But, still, as of right now, it's a bit of a baseless assumption that this is a "skirt" between revision and new handheld when the only exclusive software announced thus far being a Wii port and bot been released yet despite the hardware being out. As of right now, it looks just like a DSi type of revision, since the DSi also had slight improvements like the New 3DS does.

Well, I guess we'll find out soon enough. I just hope for a Twilight Princess port.

Were it not for the Wii U rerelease, a Wind Waker port would seem the most likely port. I suppose they could release it again. I'd certainly buy it.
