Now a group of influential NHL players that includes New Jersey's Martin Brodeur, Dallas's Marty Turco, Detroit's Dominik Hasek and Edmonton's Dwayne Roloson want the league's – and inevitably the Leafs' – uniforms altered again. In what would be a radical overhaul that might incite hockey traditionalists but surely gratify some of the league's cash-strapped owners, several NHL goalies have asked the league and its players union to consider starting a so-called Goaltender's Club. Revenue-generating initiatives for the club could include placing a corporate logo on the jerseys of the league's 60-odd goalies.

The players are working alongside prominent hockey marketer Brad Robins and Edmonton player agent Ritch Winter. Robins and Winter estimate on-uniform ads might generate upwards of $30 million a season for the NHL. Robins has already briefed Gary Bettman on the concept, though it's uncertain whether the NHL commissioner has endorsed the idea. A copy of the goaltender's club proposal, obtained by the Star, shows corporate presence on a jersey could range from subtle to more invasive.

One proposal shows Roloson's blue and orange team jersey with a small Rexall logo above the Oilers symbol. The drugstore chain's symbol could also be "sublimated (dyed right into the fabric) on a portion of the sleeve." A second proposal depicts Brodeur's Red Devils jersey. The team's NJ on the chest is positioned above a large tag for the bank UBS and adjacent to an RBC logo. Bank Morgan Stanley's symbol could be featured on the goalie's sleeves and shoulders.

A third proposal shows Detroit goalie Hasek's red jersey, again with the Red Wings' logo front and centre above the larger symbol of insurance company AIG. The company's logo could also be displayed on the sleeves and on the bottom of the jersey's back. The presentation also suggests goalies be allowed to choose the jersey's colour and depicts Hasek's in black, blue, green and white styles.

At least drop the Panasonic.

The Kaberle trade was actually with Umberger, not Carter

Rumor

Hossa To Boston

For
Kessel
Schaeffer
1st rd 2008
2nd rd 2009

Boston better have assurances that they can sign Hossa to a deal otherwise it would rank up there with the Joe Thornton trade.

I think that is #1 on all the teams minds.

Montreal was rumoured to be involved in a trade as well

Flyers are also taking a look at both Tanguay and Brad Richards.

Yeah, I've been checking the Bruins' website all day. There's absolutely no mention of this. If they were at least in talks, I think the site might report something.

I just copy and paste them from the one site I frequent, that guy Eklund(hockeybuzz) said the trade had "legs" but hes not really reliable.

That's an understatement. Whenever Eklund says something will happen, it's probably just the total opposite

Donnie - anything heard on the Wings?

There was talks of them signing Darren McCarthy. Also bringing back Federov, but something with him and Ottawa might be in the works. Other then that I've heard there in the market for a power forward and a defenseman.

Where did you read that? I read Carter. I know it doesn't matter anymore, since he ain't going anywhere, I'm just curious.

Guy that covers the Flyers for the Delco Times, said it was Umberger Coburn/Parent and a pick.

Homer said he won't trade Carter, but you never know I guess.

Oh ok. Honestly, I rather keep Umberger than Carter. I think they get more out of him than Carter. Plus, Carter can't hit the net.

They are going to sign Darren McCarty again (which I love), and I'd like to see Federov back again.

Thrashers won't extend Hossa's contract

Thrashers general manager Don Waddell informed forward Marian Hossa that the team won't offer him a contract before Tuesday's trade deadline, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Waddell spoke to Hossa on Saturday before Thrashers-Maple Leafs' game (CBC, 7 p.m. ET), and officially ended any hope of signing Hossa.

"No, I don't believe so at this point," said Waddell, when asked if signing Hossa before the trade deadline was a possibility. "We're going to look at all our options at this point, look at what the market will pay."

Both Hossa and Waddell described the meeting as a positive one.

"Me and Don have had a great relationship since the beginning, since I came here," Hossa said. "He was always great to me."

Hossa is due to become a free agent on July 1.

Well one team will be moving their UFA while another won't...

Sundin firm on staying with the Leafs

Mats Sundin has been asked by the Maple Leafs to waive the no-trade clause in his contract, but the Toronto captain said on Saturday that he remains adamant about staying with the organization.

Sundin, who becomes an unrestricted free agent on July 1, spoke to reporters after Saturday morning's skate, and admitted interim general manager Cliff Fletcher asked his permission to waive his no-trade clause.

While his consent would allow the team an opportunity to pursue a trade before Tuesday's 3 p.m. ET deadline, Sundin stood firm on his decision to refuse a move at this point.

''The Leafs gave me a chance to think about it and all that, but as I said, my position hasn't changed since the start of the year," he said.

''I have to do what feels right in my heart. I just don't think I can go to another team if I don't want to play for another team. That wouldn't be right to myself. That's how I feel right now.''

On Friday, Sundin missed the morning practice due to what a team spokesman described as flu-like symptoms, fuelling speculations that a trade could be in the works.

The talk only intensified when it was reported later that Leafs general manager Cliff Fletcher had a meeting with Sundin on Thursday and his agent, J.P. Barry, the following day to discuss the captain's future with the club.

"Yes, I had a meeting with Mats [Thursday] and I met with his agent J.P. Barry [Friday]," Fletcher told the Canadian Press.

"And, yes, I met with Bryan McCabe this morning. But at this point, that's all I'm going to say. The process is ongoing."

Sundin and the Leafs host the Atlanta Thrashers on Saturday (CBC, 7 p.m. ET) at the Air Canada Centre.

The Leafs shouldn't resign him. If anything they can trade away negotiation rights before the draft but they would be better off spending money on a younger UFA. He doesn't want to help the team and possibly win a Cup for the team he wants and his not open to being traded at all then he's better off not being signed.

We're losing over 3,600 games of experience at the blue line tonight due to injuries.

10 straight losses

Injuries a plenty, including Mike Richards who's out 3 weeks now. This team still has enough time to catch up to say even the 5 or 4 seed in the East. But right now they need to get healthy and start playing smart hockey. I dont know why there is no chemistry there anymore, i dont know why the defensemen suddenly got slow and suck, i dont know why the coaching has suddenly been terrible. But there is enough time to fix it.

Sources tell TSN the Tampa Bay Lightning have reached out to star forward Brad Richards and have alerted him to their interest in trading him.

It's believed the Vancouver Canucks, Dallas Stars and Columbus Blue Jackets are the most active in the hunt, although according to source, Richards isn't expected to be given the list until later Sunday night.

His decision on whether to clear the way for trade is expected either Sunday night or Monday, at which point Lightning general manager Jay Feaster will take his offers to ownership for a final decision.

Richards, who signed a five-year, $39 million contract in 2006, has 18 goals and 50 points in 61 games this season.

In 551 career NHL games, the 27-year-old centre has 150 goals and is the Lightning's career assists leader with 338. He had a career-high 91 points in 2005-06. Richards, considered one of the premier playmakers in the NHL, will earn $7.8 million in each of the next three seasons.

Well clearly Dallas would seem like the obvious choice but Vancouver wouldn't be that bad and perhaps Rick Nash would be enough to lure him to Columbus. There was the Turco for St.Louis rumour but could Richards replace Marty?

Less than 48 hours until the deadline. Surprised there has been no trades the past few days.

I watched The Mighty Ducks the other night, I had forgotten that Mike Modano has a cameo in it. Back when the Stars were still in Minneapolis.

Good old Mike Modano. Still one of my favorite players of all time, though he's no longer half as good as he used to be. Sucks getting old. :o :(
