Kingfish you think Halos will keep Lackey?

Right now my gut says no. I think he wants to stay more than the media gives him credit for, but in the end the Angels just might not have the money to keep him (they have seven major players up for arbitration). Figgins is much more likely to be back.

Actually there still is. Chris Coghlan is a natural 2B. He'll get moved to 2B. They can call up Stanton to play OF and possibly call up Morrison to play 1B.

I'd like The Phils to look at Gload and Putz. Bullpen and bench should be the main focus this off season. I'd like a guy like Figgins to replace Feliz but it's not a pressing need and that money can go to better places.

That's true, but will the Marlins let the power numbers from 2B go?

Cody Ross is expected to be a Marlin in 2010, no word on Cantu. I was reading at marlinsbaseball.com how ESPN Insider has some rumor of Javier Vazquez for Dan Uggla. Yes, the Atlanta Braves pitcher.

Can you imagine the Marlins having a 1-2-3 SP of Johnson, Nolasco, and Vazquez? That's scary. And makes me excited as a fan.

Highs and Lows of UZR 2007-9: Utley

by Matthew Carruth - November 7, 2009 - Share this Article

As explained in the overview post, here, this is part of a series looking at the best and worst defensive performers over the past three combined seasons. Rankings are done by adding a player’s UZR with his aggregate positional adjustment so as to level the playing field with regards to difficulty. Essentially, it’s removing the grading curve.

Previously covered:
5th, Ryan Zimmerman 43.7 runs above average.
4th, Omar Vizquel 45.8 runs above average.
3rd, J.J. Hardy 48.7 runs above average.
2nd, Franklin Gutierrez 51.4 runs above average.

Tonight, the best player from 2007-9: 2B Chase Utley.

Consistent greatness is Chase Utley’s calling card. His wOBAs from 2005 through 2009 have all been inside the range of .389 to .420. His UZRs during that stretch vary only from +9.8 to +20.5. In the last five seasons, Chase Utley’s worst season, 2006, had him as a 6.8 WAR player. His best, 2008, he was an 8.1 WAR player.

For five seasons Chase Utley (38 total wins) has been just a smidgen less valuable than Albert Pujols (40.4 total wins) has been. Thank goodness that he is losing his mind in this World Series because hopefully now he’ll start getting more credit. He’s been close to the best player in baseball over the last half-decade and how many people would have included him in the top ten?

Utley’s 54.8 runs above average came in nearly equal portions each season. His 17.6 runs was 11th best in 2007, his 22.8 runs was the overall best in 2008 and his 14.4 runs was 18th best this past year.

By the way, with the pretty big caveat that the 2009 awards have yet to be announced, I find it worth pointing out that none of the top five players for the period of 2007-9 have won a Gold Glove in that period. Hopefully the 2009 slate rectifies that.

Vazquez is worth more than Uggla. The Braves would never trade Vazquez to a division rival. Plus Vazquez makes too much for the Marlins.

Gagne can thank roids for making him a blip in Baseball history. Doubtful that anyone will ever give him a try again though.

Thats how he became a bum?....Roids?....Well why should I be surprised....Its baseball.

IIRC, Gagne got cut by some independent Canadian team.

I think Lackey may goe to Texas...Chone Figgins will get alot of teams interested, so i think there is more a chance Lackey signs

Everyone keeps thinking it's this automatic thing that Lackey goes home to Texas, but I find it doubtful. He has tons of experience in that ballpark, and guess what? He stinks there. Badly. Like his worst numbers of any stadium. Really, I'll be surprised if Texas finds the money and Lackey ignores his numbers there.

The Rangers are broke and are getting money from the MLB. They won't sign anyone big.

No players from Texas ever go play for the Rangers.

I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight. That image is gonna be stuck in my head. :csad:

Hey, hey now. Don't go flashing that...thing around. Small children frequent these boards (you know who you are).

man the pitching FA crop is pretty terrible this offseason.

lackey is probably the only worthwhile starting pitcher and you can argue he's not even a true ace.
