How does that work again? Offer the guy arbitration and let him sign with someone else? MLB Offseason rules are hard to follow :o

Olivo is a Type B so they'll offer him arbitration and then the Jays will get a Compensation draft pick from whoever signs him. Assuming they offer arbitration to all of their eligible players and none accept, Toronto could actually be looking at getting 8 of the first 50 picks in what's being considered a very deep draft class.

The Astros need a youth movement. I'm surprised they didn't fire selll this year. Or would getting rid of Oswalt and Berkman count as that?

That was as big a fire sale as it gets for them. Carlos Lee is about as unmovable as they get.

Plus the Astros plan to build around Hunter Pence. And they gave Brett Myers an extension.

He has like three years.

He's the hitting version of Barry Zito.

So The Nats might try to get Cliff Lee

From MLBTR

"This winter's battle for Cliff Lee's services is widely viewed as a two-team race between the Yankees and Rangers, but those aren't the only clubs with a strong interest in the left-hander. MLB.com's Bill Ladson says the Nationals, who are hoping to land a front-line starting pitcher this offseason, will receive an audience with Lee.

Washington is a team Lee "has to learn more about," according to Ladson's source, so it's possible the Nationals could become a dark horse candidate to sign Lee after the 32-year-old hears what they have to say. Still, as Ladson notes, the Nats may be more inclined to trade for a starter rather than signing one of the top free agent arms. Here's what GM Mike Rizzo said in September when he discussed the team's desire for a top starter:

"We need a front-of-the-rotation guy to put everybody in their proper place in the rotation. That's the number one priority going into the offseason. We definitely have depth - prospect wise - to pull off a deal for a pitcher."

For a primer on the starting pitching available this winter besides Lee, check out our posts on the free agent market for righties and lefties, and the trade market for righties and lefties."

Yeah, and the Nats wanted Texieria too. That worked out well in the bidding.

Washington will probably make a play for Zach Greinke.

Washington will probably make a play for Zach Greinke.

Wouldn't be surprised. I'm pretty sure Washington isn't on that list of teams Grienke has on his no trade clause

Grienke is a better fit there...Lee is not going there, he wants to go to a winner.

Most reports say that money is the most important thing to Lee and he'll follow it to the moon if necessary.

The Mets hired Paul DePodesta as VP of Player Development and Amateur Scouting. They're becoming Moneyball 2.0.

Why? Cause Greinke is used to losing?

Yep.

Greinke will crap in his pants on his first start for the Yankees...The Nats have some good pieces to get him and there is no pressure over there. The Nats like losing too.
