Greinke isn't an option for the Yankees. They're on his no-trade list and he's about as fragile a player as it gets. He's one of the few cases where I'd actually agree that he couldn't handle New York (or Los Angeles. Or Chicago even).

Greinke will crap in his pants on his first start for the Yankees...The Nats have some good pieces to get him and there is no pressure over there. The Nats like losing too.

No one mentioned Greinke to the Yanks:huh:

It's been talked about before as their backup plan to Lee. Ultimately, it's fruitless because of the no-trade clause.

You know, I hadn't even considered it before, and it doesn't address any of their weaknesses, but the Angels smartest move would actually be to sign Lee. How often do you get the chance to:

A. Vastly improve your team by replacing 32 Kazmir starts with 32 Lee starts.
B. Screw over the team most likely to keep you out of the playoffs.
C. Screw over/potentially cripple the team most likely to eliminate you from the playoffs.

all in one move? It'll never happen, but it would certainly be amusing.

Yeah. Greinke has a fragile personality. Anywhere but the obscurity of Kansas City might be too much for him.

I think Grienke is one of those players that stays with crappy teans because he believes he can rebuild them, or something like that

He's like the doctor from the $6 Million Man, only $6 million is more than the entire Royals payroll.

Not really. He's said before that he doesn't think he'll be there when or if this latest rebuilding project finally pays off. He could handle any small to medium market team, it's when he starts getting his name in papers all the time and every last pitch gets scrutinized. Honestly, just making the playoffs could screw up his psyche.

Anyway, I'll just reiterate that if the Yankees don't sign Cliff Lee, it's a potentially crippling blow to them. Right now, you're talking about a 170 million dollar payroll that has exactly TWO reliable starters (and that's if Hughes holds up). Maybe Pettitte comes back, maybe not. Nobody should count on Burnett for anything. Who's their fallback option here? Jorge De La Rosa? Hiroki Kuroda? Carl Pavano (*snicker)? Trades? Greinke won't go there. The Rays won't give them Garza. They could have Oliver Perez or Scott Kazmir, but...really?

That's why they're willing to do anything to get Lee. They're screwed without him.

How the ***** does Jeter win a Gold Glove? Do they just completely ignore any kind of fielding metric?

AL Gold Gloves: Ichiro snags 10th in row, Jeter wins 5th

NEW YORK -- Seattle right fielder Ichiro Suzuki has won his 10th straight Gold Glove and New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter has won his fifth overall.

The American League awards for fielding excellence were announced Tuesday by Rawlings.

Also honored were first baseman Mark Teixeira and second baseman Robinson Cano of the Yankees and third baseman Evan Longoria and outfielder Carl Crawford of the Tampa Bay Rays. Minnesota catcher Joe Mauer, White Sox pitcher Mark Buehrle and Seattle outfielder Franklin Gutierrez also won.

The NL awards will be announced Wednesday.

Nice to see Jeter, Cano, Teixeira win gold gloves.

Do you have the site that ranks players by fielding, errors, etc.?

That is just laughable. Jeter and Teixeira were both terrible. To repost:

FanGraphs uses two measures for defense: Ultimate Zone Rating (UZR) and Defensive Runs Saved (DRS). They purport to do the same thing, and they agree that Teixeira and Jeter are rather awful in the field. Among qualifying first basemen, Teixeira’s UZR is better than that of Troy Glaus, Paul Konerko, Ryan Howard and Prince Fielder, which is to say he’s a couple bad plays shy of cadaver. And for those who get so jazzed over Teixeira’s ability to pick throws to first out of the dirt, his 18 scoops are the second fewest in the major leagues – and 30 fewer than Albert Pujols.

Jeter’s is simpler: His minus-11 DRS is better than only that of Yuniesky Betancourt and Hanley Ramirez. His minus-6.8 UZR is better than only that of the same two players. Betancourt and Ramirez should not be playing shortstop. Use the transitive property how you will.
It's a joke plain and simple. Award season is off to a pretty bad start.
