Christ, after that Soriano contract, the Tig's Benoit contract doesnt look so bad.

Good old Yankees, the models of efficiency that they are. Why win with spending $120 million when you can win and spend $210 million?

*lights money cigar*

I'll be helping the cost by going to the Stadium at least once this year.

I'm sure Soriano will appreciate your contribution of 1/1,000th of a cent to his paycheck.

I'll double it by buying a t-shirt as well.

You know, when the Yankees spend, it's not an "overpay" by their standards.

If he's a New York taxpayer, he doesn't have time to pay for Soriano. He's still paying for the stadium.

It's such a bad deal for the Yankees. If he has a great year next year, he'll opt out for more money and a closing gig with another. If he has a bad/injured year, he won't and the Yankees will have another Carl Pavano.

Either way the Yankees win then? If he's good he can stay or leave, if he sucks he can leave or the pressures of NY will force him to leave.

The closer market is already flooded next year. Papelbon, Broxton, Bell, and potentially Cordero, K-Rod, Lidge, and Nathan.

Good luck finding a job next winter.

Not quite. If he's amazing then he can opt out and chase money again. If he's downright AJ Burnett terrible, then he doesn't have to opt out and can stay and get paid.

Gotta change your perspective. Soriano having a great year then leaving NY would appease the anti-Yankee fans because he's then no longer with the team.

Heck no. I'm perfectly happy with the Yankees giving somebody 12 million a year to throw 60 innings (that aren't even ninth innings).

The Yankees just have plenty of other problems to worry about. Sergio Mitre is in their rotation right now for heaven's sake.

It's like slapping a really expensive band-aid on that pitching staff.

Apparently Tampa is about to lose Grant Balfour and Chad Qualls, thereby stocking the farm system even further.

Yep. It gives the Rays 11 of the first 89 picks, nine of which come before the start of the second round.

Twins brought back Thome for another year.

Royals signed Jeff Francis for one year. They finally make a good decision for once.

Oh yeah and the D-Backs signed Willie Bloomquist.

It's like the Phillies getting Pete Rose back in the 80's. He's going to teach them how to win.
