I didn't figure out the word [BLACKOUT]'Tian' until the last moment, even though Chinese is my native language, and the word does not mean 'Heaven', it's more close to 'Sky'.[/BLACKOUT]

Astonishing X-Men #27 will arrive in stores on Oct. 15 from Marvel Comics. The issue is written by Warren Ellis, with art and cover by Simone Bianchi.

Here's how Marvel describes the book:

"'Ghost Box,' part 3. Big action. Big Science. And a big mystery to solve! Taking the X-Men to the 'Second Stage!' 'Messiah CompleX' pulled the X-Men team together, 'Divided We Stand' tore them apart. Now the X-Men are back to business -- with a new look, a new base of operations, and a mission that will take them into mind-bending and previously uncharted territory -- one that will test them -- and their leader Cyclops -- to their very core. You won't believe your eyes."

Astonishing X-Men #27 will be 32 pages and will cost $2.99

Storm looks hideous...What have they done to you Storm?

You know, upon second reading, why were the girls even in this issue, lol?

They could've had Cyke, Wolvie and Hank play poker and drink beer with Brand joining them for a few hands and you'd have had basically the same thing. I suppose going to this Tian place would've been the mandatory beer run. Oh well.

It occurs to me that there are certain things I didn't say about this past issue in this thread that I said in the bought/thought thread...

What the hell, Bianchi?!

Simone Bianchi said that he was getting a head start on his art back during the Spring so delays like this wouldn't happen. Not only do we still have delays, but his facial expressions, female facial structures, and bodily poses get progressively worse with each issue. And do you know what really burns my toast? Only about 2/3 of his panels have backgrounds drawn into them. He literally leaves every few panels completely blank. There's a panel where Cyclops and Beast are talking, and not only is the background of the X-Center a completely white blank nothing, but Bianchi doesn't even bother drawing an arm to connect Beast's gesturing hand to his torso. He doesn't even bother throwing a gradient color into the backgrounds. Bianchi just looks at Ellis' scripts and thinks to himself "Hm. This panel is supposed to have Beast sitting on a chair while the ghost box is sitting on a table, so I'm going to only draw Beast, the chair, the ghost box, and the table. A floor? Nope. Walls in the back? Nope. Just those four items."

you pretty much listed every reason i hate his work too, just add on "ugly color palette" and "unnecessary fugly costume redesigns".

I think he does it because his designs (of everything) are really detailed (but in a bad way-like a coffee cup in #25 was way to complicated with a bunch of lines and patterns and things) so if he put the characters and comlicated background in every single panel, every page would look too busy.

Great. Now explain why he forgets to finish drawing people. It's in the preview pages. Right there. When Beast says "Conceivably." Where's his arm? Where's his shoulder? You can literally see his left hand floating in midair.

Too busy to notice it probably, maybe he was planning to finish it later but since the book is already late...

Or maybe he's just trying to be "artsy", like he's already trying to do by making some of the panel shapes be continued outlines of the character's bodies.

But see, I like that, the way he makes the shapes in the panels. I do admit his body styles are getting a bit out of hand, but I still like the art in this. I don't mind the slow pace either since this plot seems like it's going to get complicated with all these races fighting one another.

I do get the feeling he's trying to be artsy rather than lazy.

But, yeah, he really shouldn't be behind schedule with that much white space, lol.

Great. He should be done at some point in 2011.

Couldn't be any worse than Cassaday. :p We got a book every quarter or so with him. :p

Yeah, but Cassaday drew entire people, rendered backgrounds into his panels, had women who didn't look like men, and didn't do weird poses like have Armor & Cyclops stand on their toes while arching their backs.

LOL, so many artist pose peole unnaturally, like having all the women pose like they are ready for sex when they are talking about missions and the like. I am used to them not being quite natural.

Compared to the likes of Greg "O-Face" Land and Rob "Why are all women on their toes and men standing behind hills?" Liefeld, I'd say I'm going fairly easy on Bianchi. There are tons of things I haven't brought up at all. I've completely avoided discussions about Storm's horrid shower-curtain costume.

And her face, everytime I look at her I think her codename should be 'Octopus', but then, Bianchis' women looks either that or zombie-like.

I wasnt trying to defend his art its just that the white spaces is one of the few things that dont bother me.

Oh. Bothers the hell out of me, though. I am willing to let the uncolored sky go, as they are living in San Francisco. That just looks like overcast.

Reiterating that Manic's 'OMG, at least a freakin quarter of your backgrounds are WHITE and you can't make deadlines!!!' argument is pure PWNAGE.

Oh joy.
