Oh cool I went to the shops today thinking it was out and looking for it, but I got the new UXM as well. Well I'll get it next week.

Bi monthly schedules are stupid. :down

But at least it's still showing up, unlike another book that I won't mention *coughcoughHulkvsWolverinecoughcough*:o

whoever said scott was never a strong leader sure as hell didnt read him in the late 70's-80's

i think he is grat leader but he seems so serious all the time. the whole boyscout attitude of his is annoying. but he just seems like all work and no play.

I don't think Whedon's implication was ever that Scott wasn't a great leader; he had Emma say, pretty explicitly, that he was.

The implication was that he could have been better, and that a lot of this is because of his own personality holding him back.

bs. scott is cool but he just doesnt take risks. but what is scott's persona anyway. i see him born leader but uptight even in relationships

And it's that uptightness, the lack of taking the risks that matter, that holds him back from being even better than he already is.

It's a pretty simple, logical argument really; all the greatest leaders are the ones that make themselves heard, make themselves seen, make themselves remembered. And, really, Scott doesn't want any of those things. Yes, he sincerely understands that this is exactly what the X-Men need -- ie: his "superheroes" speech in Astonishing #1 -- but at heart all he has ever wanted is to be unseen, unheard, unremembered.

The greatest leaders are the ones that are spontaneous and decisive and do not second-guess everything about themselves; they question their decisions after they have already made them, not before. Scott has qualms about pretty much everything. He has moments of great decisiveness, and then he has moments of utter uptightness that go beyond just being careful and into the realm of just being paranoid.

When Jean wanted to explore her powers and become as powerful as she could be, Scott was the first to tell her to stop and restrain herself. When Xavier and Jean pushed for the school being public and not remain in hiding anymore, Scott was the first one to object.

Of the X-Men, who is the one best remembered for being visible, going out making the speeches and inspiring the masses? Xavier. And then Jean. Not Scott. Isn't it interesting that Xavier originally picked Jean as the one to succeed him as headmistress of the school, and not Scott? In the field, Scott is commandeering and his personality is undeniably powerful. But what about off the field? A true leader is a leader all the time, not just when he absolutely needs to be.

REQUEST!!!

I know the new issue of AXM is out today (or is it tomorrow?) and i believe that Perfection will be revelaed? If so.... can people please use spoiler tags when mentioning who it is..... I'm not gonna get the comic until Sunday or Monday, and I really dont wanna be spoiled about this one!... unless it's lame! lol

I, on the other hand, desperately want to be spoiled, since I can't get the book til next weekend, and I can't wait that long. Someone spill the beans already (use spoiler tags, though)!

I just think we are supposed to take Emma's words with a grain of salt. (Consider the source, after all). Scott's leadership is one that puts team over self. He does not need to make himself "known" because he can be satisfied that he is working for the greater good. Leadership takes self-sacrifice, not self-promotion, like Emma thinks. A leader has to think of the consequences of all actions before taking actions. Looking multiple steps ahead rather than acting in the spur of the moment.

In that way, Scott is comparable to Aeneas rather than Achilles to borrow from ancient heroes.

SPOILERS (for those who want to know the two big revelations of the issue):

Perfection is...
70's era Emma Frost in her White Queen costume
The Destroyer of the Breakworld is...
Collosus

Then
it's the second theory that was been talked around here. Is the new Hellfire Club just Emma's mind doing then?

Well, now we know why he was brought back

Thanx for the info

...sweet

I should've known it'd be
Colossus. Nothing like a self-fulfilling prophecy. Ord brings back Colossus and in doing so shoots himself in the foot.

When you put it like that its kind of obvious that it would be that person.

Well at least now we know that the character isn't just a pretty face anymore standing in the background and looking all sexxified

Dont Spoil It!!! Or Else I Will Hate You Forever!!

Hey, what about Kitty's reaction when Perfection uncloaked? I gotta say, it's pretty much the way I felt.

When can we expect the TPB to come out of this arc? How long does it take after the story finishes?

Seeing more Wolverine as a little British kid was funny though.

And the reveal was great.

I can't believe it! I so did not see that being PERFECTION. Wow. What in the hell is going on in Astonishing X-Men?!
